  • Yoweri Museveni describes this occasion as not simply about his promotion, or retirement, but about showing Ugandans who their true African allies have been during times of tribulations. These include Libya, Tanzania and Mozambique. In resisiting colonialism, he singles out Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro for special praise as the story continues…

Perhaps it is Gen Elly Tumwine who best understood Museveni the soldier, when he described Uganda’s longest-serving president as “a professor in the creation of successful liberation armies.” That was on 6th February 1988, when the victorious National Resistance Army adopted formal military ranks, making its founding commander-in-chief, RO/001 Yoweri Museveni a lieutenant-general.
16 years later, on 6 April 2004, Gen Tumwine again read Gen. Museveni’s second and last citation for promotion to full general and his retirement from the army he had founded on 6 February 1981.
Army Commander Maj Gen Aronda Nyakairima had set the ball rolling when he openly pleaded with Museveni not to retire into idleness but to take command of other fronts. And as he formally retired from the UPDF, Museveni not only promised to continue fighting terrorists but revealed that he was retiring from the UPDF to “embark on other battles”.
Again, it is only OwanaPaedia reliving yet another epoch in world history, paying special tribute to Uganda’s Presidential Press Unit which captured this for posterity.

I loved the President's narration of historical events and I was touched by the Luganda song played by the military brass band.

Thanks M7 to explain all of that .let the African listen to what M7 say that is fact and western talking of human rights in Uganda during M7. They forgot what happens to African. When took east African people to fight for their own wars for nothing. Without composite them. British should pay for the armed force who fought for their own by force and they were talking of human rights in Africa
Africa should take the British to the human rights. Before the British trial African people or leaders. If they were say that they know human rights how many African people within their countries or in detention centres. The British should a ward those who fight for British now. We need answers from them
