The green loofah may be salvageable. Our area also got frosted and a local homesteader said she took her green loofah & baked them at 350F for 30 minutes. When cool enough to handle, she peeled & seeded them and now they are completely usable for kitchen scrubbers.

I tried this and ended up with juices from the loofah all over the oven. Put a tray of something under it to help, if you can. I did 30 minutes. It wasn’t enough, so I’m adding more time.

Here in France, we have someone (a large fruit producer) who has put his chicken in his orchards. He has integrated chicken coops in each orchard with fences around them and the hens move freely in this large space. It thus avoids certain diseases and its soil is permanently fertilized and its production is incredible.

To heat your green house through the winter you can use plastic containers/barrel drums of water that get heated by the sun in the green house. They release heat throughout the night. Like the ones you use to water the pigs. If painted black or if they are blue they hold more heat.

I always keep the specimen that most suits my requirements to “breed” replacements off. In your case, breed from the plants you know did fantastic. Give it five years and you’ll have the most incredible sweet potato harvest!!

If you folks like pumpkin pie, you would also like sweet potatoe pie. Just another possible option for the undersized harvest.

Fantastic crop of taters!! And I loved seeing little Buggie digging "taboes"! Even those long skinny sweet taters are so sweet and good. My mom always preferred the long skinny ones over the big fat ones because they are sweeter. She would bake them to add to our meals. You should try some and see how you like the skinny ones!

Loaded baked sweet potatoes are the best!! Bake just like regular potatoes and put bacon bit, cheese, chives and sour cream and optional ground beef 🤤

Frost can be a killer, but it is so beautiful. And raises sugars in apples, oranges and other plants. Hoping Meg feels better.
Gosh what a great sp haul! LOVE THE WEIGHING in. Will you save slips to plant in your greenhouse?

Congratulations! You have the biggest and prettiest sweet potato harvest I’ve ever seen! There’s a lot you can do with those delicious potatoes, too, and Meg you know that! Sweet potatoes are very simple to grow because they take a very small amount of your time, yet they are very healthy for grown ups and children, too!

Your correct on the quality of your soil. Lived in Amarillo, tx and it took me 2 years of heavy mulch in clearly clay soil. Soil could be used for base road work. Had 3 commercial size trash cans full of fall leaves, 5 bales of alfalfa hay. And all summer grass clippings. If you do the work the lord will take care of the rest on your blessing. Hard work always rewards us green thumbs gardener's.

You are so blessed with such a great harvest…unfortunately my husband does not like them…..so I dehydrate them when I find them on sale and I make sweet potato powder to add to soups and such……also a lot of greens go into powder……then there’s no waste …I take small potatoes and wash them then run thru the processor and grind it….then I dehydrate the ground potatoes.
You could easily bury an old freezer and use that as a cold cellar for root veggies and veggie powders…..BUT don’t tell anyone because it will come to a day food will cause people to become thieves……..my grdpa would hide his homemade beer used as a barter in one….he had numerous cold cellars hidden about…one with money wrapped in plastic and stuck inside chickens and frozen….
1870 Farmhouse, Rachel took potatoes and cubed them raw, no par boiling, mixed the cubed potatoes with oil, onions and peppers which she calls OBrian potatoes and freezes them….I tried it and the potatoes stay white and taste good….try some….great way to store potatoes.

I just love watching your boys help out and look like they’re enjoying themselves. I was wondering maybe you guys could do a video where you introduced all your boys and your daughter with their names and their nicknames. And why do they have those nicknames?
