I flew Gen Puri many times for recce missions, then GOC 8 Div. I was the only naval helicopter pilot flying alongside Army aviators. It was a great honor and a humbling experience to have been part of the war.
Sir, I served under Gen Puri when he was the GOC 10 Corps. I did an interesting one man inquiry into the issue of substandard DMS Boots in 16 Inf Div in which I gave him a handwritten report.

I want to share one experience also. Our arm Forces are not only fighting at LOC and battle fields. To give best to the Nation that becomes in there blood and they are so humble that they do anything for the nation and civilian. Once I was traveling from my state to another state by train. Soldiers do have their quotas and they have right to get reserve seats. In that train so much rush and so many people traveling without reservation. Also a bunch of Army was also there. They were so humble that they gave their seats to the people. And the entire night and till their destination comes they standing near toilet in train that also not uncomfortably. They even not had enough space to keep their luggage. Even they seats for a while that also down in dirty place without any comfort. Is se jyada kitna sacrifice kare vo log. Lalit Rai and brigadier Amul Asthana in batalik sector, 1/11 gorkha was the first company to indulge in these operations without any artillery support and on one of the highest and important peaks as khalubar and jhubbar, What Manoj Pandey did was also phenomenal but no mention ever why

We got surprised across a stretch of 130 km of the Line of Control This was a failure at the tactical and operational levels. The Pak Army had tried occupying the Saltoro ridgeline in the 80s and early 90s. The 90s were spent in plugging the gaps on the Shashabari and Pir-panjal to establish a counter-infiltration grid. The only existing gap was in the Drass-Kargil-Batalik sectors. Our senior officers failed to connect the dots. Blaming this lapse on the Int agencies is not fair. After the extent of the incursions was realised, the operations should have been planned deliberately. However, Infantry units were launched into hasty attacks without sufficient artillery fire support, leading to avoidable casualties and loss of morale, in the initial stages of the Indian response. This was failure of leadership at the operational level. Its time we start critiquing our actions with honesty.
Why is the contribution by 8 Sikh often overlooked? They took the worst hit at Tololing where more than half of the casualties of whole war occured. Also sir please make a specific podcast on battle of Tololing

Intelligence failure and national Intelligence failure is not a very appropriate answer when we are introspecting the real facts in prospective . Such a large area getting occupied by the enemy and then later to get back our own territory we suffered enormous human losses and so many casualties. Gen mor you have very shrewdly asked relavent questions to the General in command at that moment . So Gen. Puri can candidly reveal many mistakes committed by our local commander's of these areas to over look the real time situation. Enough heads possibly didn't role for over looking the situation for which later Indian Army and our country paid very heavy price .
Would like to say love the way Mohinder Sir freely expressed his views on Agneepath scheme although he knew that Yash Sir is on the other side. I am not From the Army Background. I am an Indian. I just want tell here one thing that is how good it is we can search a bullet that can recognize Pakistani terrorist and troops and targets them only. And none of our soldiers martyred. I know this is an illusion only. But it really can be possible. Our soldiers did lot for our nation and lost their lives. Their families missed them and a lot however they proud of them.
Very very valid questions asked about intelligence failure in kargil and now with Chinese too. I remember RG asking the same question to army and he was termed anti national.
Sir, being army person I'm humbly stating ....... Asking question on national security and to highlight problems is right but to demean the forces and question their capability just because they are serving under a opposition party govt is quite disaster. RG's behaviour was seen taken as disrespectful because he wanted to reveal the sensitive information from govt side to whole world.
We were not doing picnic. We were at war. Communication must had been secured but media take its own advantage.. your question about political leadership is of course valid, just because we had a philosopher pm, other wise it was a matter of five days for our Army.
It is a matter of concern and shame why Army Top Brass does not learn its lessons from Kargil of always fail to anticipate worst possible scenario and why they do not use heavy weaponry helicopters, drones and artillery initially and they always use soldiers and rifles till they suffer heavy casualties and eventually end up using heavy weaponry at the end after loosing precious life of army soldiers. The top brass of Army always have attitude of a laid back south block bureaucrat and the junior officers and jawans pay price.

They do strength training but not bodybuilding as it leads to muscle mass and slow reflexes and less stamina, a SF personnel is required to have tremendous strength endurance and agility and fast reflexes when engaging enemy.

Unemployment means what ? Join the army and cut own neck in any operation/war without any pension, monetary benefits and leave the family on road ? 5.) @Lt Gen Mohinder Puri Sir with due respect I'm not agree with your opinion in respect of Agniveer recruitment because -
1.)Any mis happening in war/operation, what will be brand image of army ?
2.)Why people will join armed forces for 4 years if their is no job security as well as his family security ?
3.)If deserving candidates shift towards central armed police force, what will be performance of army as compare to CAPF ?
4.) Unemployment means what ? Join the army and cut own neck in any operation/war without any pension, monetary benefits and leave the family on road ?
5.) What you and government think people are fool in the country in this modern era ?
6.)If you and government is more confident in Agniveer recruitment, who will face the consequences after 4 years ? Commanding Officer, country or Government ?
7.) Have you imagine if 6 month trained Agniveer was in your division during Kargil war what was the result ?
We the people of India have more trust on armed forces than supreme court. Be fair sir don't talk like current government and his machinery.
