For the people in the comments, these exercises are more for testing how fast and precise you can go without breaking and familiarity with unorthodox weapons (hence shovel and pick). If you are looking for a realistic application for this exercise then let me give one. In a fight, if you can’t keep up with how fast your opponents punch/kick, then you get hit. If you lack precision in you strikes, then your opponents will find your mistake and exploit it. And for the people that talk about: “Just shoot them with a gun” you aren’t thinking deep enough. In an urban environment, there are civilians around you, “Pull a gun and shoot” will result in a mass panic and a likely chance of injuring a civilian. The argument above will apply to most situations. (I may be wrong since this is just an observation with a little bit of experience)

I started tkd when I was 9. Became an assistant instructor by 15. 3rd Dan by 22. This is not tkd. This is adoption of escrima kali Krav Maga techniques.
Don't be fooled. TKDD stands for something else. 특공 무술 direct translation is Commando Martial Arts. Some techniques could be linked but from my understanding it's just army self defense that they've been incorporating since the 80's and early 90's. In other words, it could be linked to any and all martial arts promoting basic self defense.

It gives them confidence, discipline, respect, courtesy, not being a quitter, more athletic, coordination, a sense of belonging, social networks and accreditation. You know how many kids are at home playing on their iPads eating chocolate, candy and potato chips. Everything is relative. Sure if you get older and want to know how to fight. Picking up Wrestling in high school and some Boxing outside of school will greatly help with defending yourself. But like I said before in terms of education I see the value and utility in Tae Kwon Do. Plus it gets my kid involved early in some type of athletics. So it depends how you perceive things.

you're in A CQB situation your one partner was just taken out and you still have rooms to clear. you slowly enter one room, clear right opposite of door, enemy kicks door into your back (blindside) he is now upon you with knife. your distance advantage is now lost. dont just train for one occasion or you will be like all those other people who lose all their plans once they get punched in the face or get their primary shooting hand slashed by a karambit

Distance is your friend with a firearm. Within 21 feet an average sprinter has stabbed you before you can draw and fire.
mythbusters did an episode on this. From about 20 feet, a knife is more dangerous than a gun.
