Hardly dude, when there's rivals it's huge it's been like that since the day football was created 1872 England v Scotland it was pretty much seen has a war without actual weapons and killings. And still to this day each team support any opposition team that each might play, it's the same for club football, its like postcode wars which has happened for many years so its not really small club mentality it's been around long before you, me and everyone else that disagrees with it, Im a Newcastle fan i went to the game today and for 30 minutes of the game we sung about Sunderland. Id never want to see Sunderland win a game let alone a cup or league and if it ment us losing for it to happen im all in.
Having said that us ( Newcastle ) are only 4 points behind spurs now so we have made them needing to win no club dosent want European football because of financial gain and been attractive to the best players in the world.

I'm an Everton fan. If the choice is finishing in a CL spot which helps Liverpool win the league or finishing 5th and Liverpool don't win because the team we faced are the title winners, then I take 4th and them winning it. I care about what's best for my club. We get more money finishing higher, we'd be in the CL, and as for the 'banter' Liverpool give us? Couldn't care less. We literally have in one of our songs 'we don't care what the red side say'! Why should we start caring after that?
I think the idea is that if Spurs can't achieve the top four and are about to play City, then it is obviously a smart play to throw the match and prevent Arsenal from winning the title. The idea is that those three points mean nothing to Spurs and everything to Arsenal.
@@therodentofurbana2568 I understand what he means but ultimately people pay a lot of money to watch their team play. A ticket to watch Everton is £55. Spurs are even more expensive than that. Then you factor in travel costs, food costs etc, going to the football is so expensive It could be a kids first game, their first time watching their heroes play, the last time a fan favourite plays for their club. I expect a performance from my team every time I go to Goodison regardless of circumstance because it costs me a lot as a fan to watch them. My answer remains the same in a game which is 'meaningless'.
The game would not be "meaningless" to Spurs, but the points would. The hypothetical scenario in question would mean a lot to Manchester City and especially Arsenal. Whether Spurs beat Man City or not, given that situation, it could well be remembered as an iconic moment in the Spurs-Arsenal rivalry for decades to come, and I'm sure, generally speaking, neither fan base would prefer be the butt of that joke.

Does anyone sees parallels between Ange's first season and Erik's ? Both are system based coaches that initially 'transformed' the way their clubs played - getting good results, being a breath of fresh air while walking into dysfunctional clubs. Like EtH, Ange's side is ambling towards the end of season having been found out by opponents.

This reminds me of Liverpool vs Chelsea in the Premier League on May-2010 where Liverpool had nothing to play for and Chelsea were competing for the Title.
I remember a banner inside Anfield which stated "Cockneys for a Day" The idea behind that banner is Liverpool fans wanting their team to lose in order to stop United from winning the 2010 Premier League. Next Sunday, I would have no problem with United fans bringing banners of "Cockneys for a Day" to Old Trafford for United vs Arsenal in support of Arsenal in the Title Race at the expense of Mn City because United have nothing to play for in the league.

Its understandable that teams will not give thier absolute best in every game of the season due to injuries, league and cup competitions, etc. But its just a shame that a team should willfully lose a game due to non of those circumstances, instead only to stop a rival from winning the league.
