This piece is still hard for me to listen to. I played it to my beloved grandmother close bevore Chistmas 2019 in hostpital. She was suffering from cancer and knew that it would be her last days. That kind of music gave her joy in life and she cried. At 1.1.2020 morning at 9 o'clock she passed away. The music is so beautiful but still reminds me of those days. Rest in peace beloved grandmother and grandfather who passed in 2003. We all love you until the end and on and on....
Young people singing and playing beautiful music. Look at their faces. Transformed by the wonder of Gjeilo’s music. Sheer magic. Thank you all who made this so moving and uplifting.
As a music major I have heard a lot of music but I just want to say that this piece of music has change my perspective of many things. It brought up a new respect for how music can make me feel and it was a whole new emotion throughout the song when a piece of music can change someone’s emotions and perspective of things that’s how you know it’s a good one
Calming and uplifting at the same time. Food for the soul. Praise to the Ultimate Composer who gifts those here below who can write such beautiful art!
Thank you so much for the profound spiritual music that touch my heart in the winter time. Best greeting from the far corner of the world - Vladivostok, Russia where is you have gratitude listener.
This piece is one of my favorites of his. Late nights I'll say, "Alexa, play music by Ola Gjeilo," and it helps me find that connection to what really matters. The more secular classical music just doesn't cut it sometimes.
Who in the hell are the people giving this composer and these musicians a thumbs down? Ugh...thank God there is beautiful music to counteract all the heinous people out there.
Ola is an incredible composer! His music warms my soul snd have been lucky to have performed this piece. You don’t need to know the words to feel the meaning in the music
Try to be kinder. You don’t know those people, their lives, their current situation or their experiences. For most people this is beautiful. For others it could be sad or remind them of something bad.
After listening to some of Gjeilo's pieces, I have much respect for this man! He gives the Alto section the respect they deserve and some spotlight on them, unlike many composers who are more interested in making the Sopranos Divas! Thank You and much respect to you Ola Gjeilo!
The women’s voices here are very beautiful. No show-off, just singing the music with skill and feeling. This is not to say the men are not marvelous themselves. Everyone is singing the music, not themselves.
This piece feels to me like coming home after a long journey abroad. A sigh of happiness. Only other piece I have like that is Pachelbel's canon. Thank you all so much for presenting us this fine music!
No me cansaré de agradecerle que nos ofrezca estos vídeos, el trabajo de los miembros del coro y su creatividad. Gracias por compartirlo. Son un faro de esperanza en la bondad del ser humano.
I have to rehearse in order to be ready to sing at Christmas, our choir has the privilege of being chosen this year for the high mass; yet I can't finish the song without having tears in my eyes,.......
absolutely beautiful. My choir, the amazing Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir are doing this piece as part of our Christmas repertoire this year. Hopefully we won't have to wear masks for our performances but that is not up to us. Ola Gjeilo, you are a magnificent composer. Thank you for providing the world with your beauty❤🎶
I thought the instrumental, The Hudson, was/is beautiful but watching you play and the faces of the singers/musicians in Ecce Novum is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for your music.
I’m singing this as a tenor in my choir and the mix of using head and falsetto is beautiful although the only reason i’m in falsetto is a purer soft sound without going flat and the rest of my section is in falsetto so i don’t have a choice although the falsetto in some sections brings out the beauty of the piece and i love it
What happens at 48 seconds in? It's like there's this divine soprano or something that slips right into the chord, in perfection. Not a sound wave out of sync. Was that an overtone, or a justly tuned chord? What's going on there, Ola? I have to know!
Latin text Ecce Novum appears in Piae Cantiones (1582) English translation below the Latin Ecce novum gaudium, ecce novum mirum, Virgo parit filium quae non novit virum, Quae non novit virum, sed ut pyrus pyrum, gleba fert papyrum florens lilium. Ecce quod natura mutat sua iura, virgo parit pura Dei filium. Behold! A new joy! Behold! A new wonder! A Virgin, who knew not a man, bears a son. She knew not a man, but as the pear-tree bears the pear, the flourishing papyrus brings the lily from the soil. See how nature changes her laws: a pure virgin bears the son of God.
Thanks so much for the text David! This is such a gorgeous piece of music and now having the text I can appreciate it even more. Blessings, Robert Cornell

I need to have my handkies by my side when I listen to Ola's music, it's painfully beautiful. A gift for a wounded planet, especially at the moment.
Bless this deeply spiritual composer. What we so need in our troubled times!
We are proud to sing this beautiful song at our advent concert today at Holy Trinity Church in San Pedro, CA
Ola Gjeilo is the most talented contemporary composer, hands down
I return to this video whenever I need to find a place of calm. Such a beautiful song, and wonderfully performed.

UA-cam took down the dislike count. Now people are going to appreciate masterpieces like this one even more. Cheers!

Altos rule!

Beatiful blending of orchestra and choir
What a celebration for the ears listening to this master piece. May God bless you all..
Das ist seit langem mal wieder ein Stück, das mich zu Tränen rührt, vor alle Dingen so schön, wie es aufgeführt ist - wundervoll!
This piece feels to me like coming home after a long journey abroad. A sigh of happiness. Only other piece I have like that is Pachelbel's canon. Thank you all so much for presenting us this fine music!
A great discovery ! Ola Gjeilo is headed to be one of the best composers of this century!
No, that accolade will go to Arvo Part. But Gjeilo is becoming one of my favorites, this is true.
Thanks so much Ola Gjeilo - another beautiful discovery new to me - thanks for uploading this.
My most favourite song since 2 years. Thank you so much 😊 holy, inspiring, beautiful

Beautiful music, but similar in parts to the soundtrack of "The man an the iron mask", of 1998
