Had that horrible rattle on my ec 250.Also the bolt that holds the arm was broken too. I thought the same trick when i saw the mechanism and how it works. After a search i did , spot your video and decide to do the mod. Bike runs great without that noise any more. Thank for posting.
i check my gasgas 300 ec 2012 for that same rateling sound, but mine wos already altered, they cut of some of the aluminum at that area. the rateling sound came from a pin that starting caming of on the lever next to the powervalve.had to weld it a bit . i lost power with the not correctly working powervalve, now runs like new .
+ben stubbe Nice! Glad to hear you got it solved. Once you figure out how they work, if anything goes wrong with it, you can find it and fix it. Thanks for the comments, I will keep an eye on that part
Thanks Mark, I think I could have prevented the bellcrank from hitting the case by adding thicker base gaskets, which would effectively raise the actuator arm, rod and then raise the bellcrank. Maybe or maybe not enough to make it clear. But if I did that then I have very little squish (increased squish? decreased squish? anyway a larger combustion chamber above TDC) which would require a head mod to fix. And I like the way my bike runs right now.
As a mechanic, I'd have to agree that your modification looks sound. Just wonder why they would have set it up originally to bounce off the case like it was. As far as the looseness goes, every power valve I've heard, regardless of brand, rattles significantly. Recently purchased an 02 YZ250 after years of 4-strokes (rode 2-strokes over 30 years ago) and found that rattle a bit hard to get used to at first. But after listening to several others, I've learned to accept it. :)
Sounds like the rattle i have on my 2013 EC300.... One thing i also notice, if in neutrel and i press the clutch lever that sound goes away!! Does that mean its a diferent problem or you had the same thing?? Moving the clutch has some affect to to PV mecanism?! Hope you can help me....
is there any risk of pushing this assembly without taking the main side case off like you have, I think ive seen a vid somewhere (may be yours) that states that some ball bearings may fall out the governor?
As an alternative to bending the push rod end to line up correctly you can add a double bend to the bellcrank to dogleg it slightly :-) Thanks for the video though, very useful!
I don't think mine had ever been off when I first took it off (third owner). Super stuck. I used a rubber mallet to tap on the case all the way around multiple times, and when I finally got the frontside to loosen, I used a long drift from the opposite side of the bike to get against a protrusion off the back of the case. And then very gingerly tap that a bunch untill it popped loose. Search it under gasgas Rider. Org and I'll bet you'll find some other ideas
Just rebuilt my top end, but as a novice, didn't clean my power valve. What are your thoughts on removing it with the cylinder still on the bike? think I can get to it with the head and the pipe off? Great video by the way. clear and good video!
Chris Vair at least on this gasgas I have removed the whole power valve assembly with the cylinder and head on the bike. I just pulled the pipe. Put the Piston at bottom dead center. as I remember you pull the exhaust flange off then you can rotate the power valve flapper sideways and get it out the front of the cylinder. doing it this way would make a great UA-cam video hint hint
Yes... Bought a gas gas ec300... Started hearing the "knocking" we bypassed the powervalve then the knocking goes softer.. But still there... This video cinfirmed my problem.. Thought it was bearings... Sounds like a comon gas gas issue
Just bought a 2011 gasgas ec300, it rattles in some specific low RPMS, accelerating or decelerating, and sounds just like a lost bearing inside the engine case LOL I was wondering what that was and what if it's normal or not.
That noise can be annoying and has several causes that sound very similar. Search "powervalve rattle" on gasgasrider dot org, (sign up, those guys are awesome and super helpful, and it's a clean forum). Basically you need to look at all the causes of "rattle" in or near the case. Piston slap, bad exhaust pipe o rings(step on the pipe while riding it to see if it goes away), PV flapper flutter (from play in the PV mechanism), bad PV bearings, chain slap(obviously if it only happens when riding it and not at idle), etc. You should be able to find it and fix it if you investigate each cause systematically. Let me know what you find out.
Hi again, if it were the case of a piston slap, it should be heard all the time, right? Because in my bike I only hear the rattle at certain RPMs. I've been trying to step on the pipe, sometimes I think it helps and sometimes I don't think it is the problem. Then I begin to suspect of the PV flapper flutter. But then I notice that the previous owner had a good hit on the beginning of the pipe and the first turn of the pipe is so backwards that it is touching the water hose. That maybe could be forcing the exhaust and maybe the o'rings are somewhat loose. Thanks again for the video and all the info.

Well, I *think* if you lay it on its left side like in the video, they shouldn't fall out of place...

Have the same problem. But my engine case is stuck! Can't get to the power valve operating mechanisme...
