Sitting here watching a bass fisherman go all girly over gills and crackers thinking to myself...so it’s NOT just me! Hearing him get excited is what fishing is really all about. We tend to fret over $40,000 boats, $300 rods, $250 reels and then we chase bass getting all frustrated. Going back to the simple things is where you’ll find peace and true joy. Good for you!
Absolutely! Thanks Donnie!
Amen!
I completely agree
Good comment. I'll never lose my love for cricket fishing!
My grandfather used crickets almost every time I went fishing with him when I was a little kid. Some of the best memories fishing with him was using crickets. He caught so many bluegill, redear, rock bass, and even small largemouth.
Nothing screams spring and summer like this! This is fishing right here! Kids, love it, I love it! Matched made in heaven!
thank you!
Bobber fishing is so underrated, most seem to think it's just for kids, but personally it's my favorite way to fish.
The kicker is that I'm usually catching something with my simple bobber and a worm or a cricket when everyone else is coming up empty with the fancy rigs and the synthetic baits, and although I usually just catch panfish, I have gotten big bass and catfish too.
thats awesome shipwright thanks for takin time to leave the comment and watch the videos i appreciate ya.
And you always bring dinner home
The one you called your PB bluegill was actually a red ear sunfish(shellcracker)
I was actually thinking the same thing.
It sure was a Redear, no doubt. The people around here call the Crappie White Perch and there aren't any Perch anywhere near Northeast Texas(except in an aquarium). I argue with the dummies all the time.
MAN I LOVE THE WAY YOU SHOWED ME HOW TO TEACH MY SCOUTs THE WAY TO CATCH THEM WITH CRICKETS, THANKS SCOUTMASTER YOUNG.
Thank you for taking the time to teach your scouts to fish 🎣 🐠
Scouting builds men.
10, 20, 30, 40 years after being a Scout, I still use my training to DELEGATE, lead, organize, cook, communicate, etc
I can tie down a prehung steel door to the roof of my car, or a 12’ Jon boat.
No problem !
It’s a shame that Scouts is not popular anymore. And that it’s been riddled with sexual assault and abuse.
I still believe in the program, though.
It’s like planting trees, you don’t see the result for 10,20,30 years
Thank you for your service
I just love watching that orange bobber travel back and forth and then suddenly submerged it never gets old
My son learned to love fishing watching bobbers dance. This video brought back some great memories.
Bluegill fishing is where a large part of us fishermen (and women) started out. So whatever we enjoy is the best kind of fishing at the time.
This is literally the video I’ve been waiting for!! Florida panfish are my favorite thing to catch great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Brandon!
The Bass Guy you should fish for some in lake istokpoga they’re huge in there
I love fishing with crickets! You can catch just about anything with them!
That one very large yellowish fish was a redear, AKA shellcracker. At one point I saw how you had the cricket hooked. The best way to hook the cricket is stick the hook in between the head and collar and make it stick out the rear end. In my opinion the very best tasting fish in any pond in the South is shellcracker unless the pond has redbreasts which most don't. But a bluegill beats a bass in the flavor department any day and a shellcracker beats a bluegill in the flavor department any day. As was mentioned below, you will hook more fish with a number six, but with fish as big as those are, you will gut hook more too with a smaller hook. I go with a smaller hook in a pond with smaller fish or outside of bedding season when most of the fish you catch are smaller. I like the blue steel one. I can't remember the brand, but its helpful if they bend should they get stuck in a log or stump. Those huge bluegill are the most fun to catch of course and make the best video. But in my opinion just the next size down in size are way more flavorful for the frying pan.
Marcus thanks for the info. You clearly know your pan fish that is for sure. I appreciate you watching the videos man!
Dude try it on light rod and reel with 4 pound test. Talk about some Fun!!!
Mad sandwiches
Must admit I prefer panfish fishing over bass fishing any day when they are bighting. My favorite to eat are redbreasts.
Yes sir red breast are the Best sweeter meat!!
Yup
I can not say that, as I love Bass fishing. I do love fishing period.
Love bluegill fishing!
Cracks me up that you are afraid 😱 to hold them the proper way 🤣 but way to go nice bluegills indeed.. personally I have a love ❤️ affair catching bluegills 👍
I would not trade two of those Bluegills for a dozen tasteless crappie .
I agree 100% but don't let a crappie fisher hear that to them that's a fight ....and I guarantee if you blind taste test bluegill would win hands down.....very flavorful meat
Hey! I thought I was going nuts !
Crappie taste like wet paper towels
I’ll take a bluegill dinner any day of the week
I been using crickets the last few days. Blue Gill love em. Great video.
I learned the hard way they always pee on you. I never forget to hold their a$$ away from me! 😂😂 ..good fishing man huge ones!!
Fantastic average bluegill size! You could catch them just as effectively with wax worms. Also I would rig a tiny slim line thill float to slip with a stop knot and split shot.
I enjoy fishing light tackle with a combination of Berkely wax worm and a piece of night crawler on a small hook under a bobber, you never know what you’re going to pull out and almost every cast lands a fish.
Made my mouth water looking at those delicious blues...need some for my fryer. Be right back 😉👍💜✝️
All of those were big enough to fillet, great eating. If you don't want to fillet them you can skin them the same way you would a catfish, plus using s jig head keeps the fish from swallowing the hook..
Another great video from The Bass Guy! Good old fashioned cricket fishing :)
I love this video. I've always enjoyed panfishing, especially with a small bobber and live bait. so please if you can, post more of these videos.
I just caught my PB bluegill back in April on a mini brush hog.
Gloves son! Thanks for that! Well done. Rox
Thanks for watching!
Why are you only using one side of the bobber? I usually hook both sides. Am I doing it wrong?
Dude you are killing em out there. Nice fish
When fishing for bluegill and crappie- if using live bait do you try to set the hook after a first bite? or wait until the second? I've been waiting for the 2nd and wonder if i'm missing fish. I figured if it was live bait, that jig/wax worm could be in it's mouth while i'm waiting on the 2nd bite? Idk..and do you just raise the pole to set the hook? Thanks in advance.
Beautiful copper nose bluegill! There are many of us dedicated to ultralite fishing mainly for those type of bluegill, shell crackers, pumpkin seeds and all the other sunfish. You think you were having fun with your bluegill? Try hauling in those same size with ultralite tackle on 4 or even 2lb line . It's a real blast! Enjoyed your video.
Good video. I started fishing for bluegills when the bass were not biting. Hate going home skunked.
Don't know how I missed this video, great job!!!! Giant Gills!!!
This is surely a lot of fun. If your plan is to release most of them remove the barb from your hooks that will make your life easier. Sometime I even cut the hook and fly flish those bluegills just to see them jumping after the fake bate. I know this is zen fishing. 😁😁😁. I ty my own flies. the cricket or flying ants pattern are very easy to ty. This Just a suggestion do what you want. Have pleasant day. Cool video.
Good eating there!
Thats what I have heard but I have never had one. Are they better than crappie?
The Bass Guy no. Not better than crappie. The problem with cleaning bream is that they need to be big enough to fillet. Which it looked like yours were.
I'm a grown man but bluegill fishing still is fun sometimes. Especially whenever they are big and they are some good eating too
I love to fish for pan fish really fun
Man I simply like catching fish. Sometimes our targeted species are not biting and we have to switch it up. I keep a ultra light spinning setup and some 1/32 jigs in the boat. Not all lakes have bluegills as big as those you found. Big fun is to be had when you can find them. They also make for great eating fried whole. I enjoyed the video.
thanks for watching i appreciate the support!
Hello, new to your channel. Watch Jordan and Tristan's channel so I wanted to check your channel out and glad I did. I'm from Ohio living in Az. now this video really bring back fishing on the farm I grow up. Base, Bluegill, Catfish etc. so much fun. We cleaned and ate the fish we caught. God did they taste great. Take care.
silvertopaz72 well I appreciate ya coming over and checking out the videos!
Great Video thanks! Would like to see more Bluegill videos
Bluegill heaven right there
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Where are you fishing at
Them are some bulls for sure. When you catch em bedding the action can be furious. I get after em when they start heading towards them beds.
Try fishing barbless hooks the hook comes out easier and you don't hurt the fish so much
Bout time someone does a video of catching monster slabs of blue Gil. Great video
Thanks for watching David!
I envy ya man, really do. I wish my place has a beautiful place like this with a lot of fish. plus has ur own boat to go off to.
That’s some good ol fashion fun
That’s some awesome bluegills. I love catching them that large
thank you samuel!
Hey..go no bobber by pads slowly sinking to bottom...and...red ear...or shell crackers are mixed in for sure
Dinner for days.
I've always used worms, are cricketts any better?
Love the video. I love bluegill fishing and they're delicious as well.
Fun video! Can't believe the size of those gills.
If u have two hooks on ur line with worms shouldn’t u catch 2 big ones at a time I’m trying it out tomorrow I was wondering what u thought
Never used crickets to fish gonna try it out
Yeah man, i vote for more bluegill video. Catchin bulls is my fav fishin, and you gotta great spot!
" Every single one of these things is peeing"........ that's not pee brotha😂😂😂
I know but we keep this show G rated 😂
This is how to fish my man.
I noticed you not using a weight does it work good
I have got to tell you, that one bluegill you caught had some steaks on it. The other thing I wanted to tell you is, I would like to see you go to Lake Okeechobee and fish for the big ones there. I went by myself one morning and caught about 11. The next morning, I took my wife with me and before 11 that morning we had caught enough to make up for 72. Now there are some giants there. One more thing, I 'm another follower of yours. We have just subscribed. Blessings. Bishop Keith and Evangelist Jeanette Kirby
what rod and reel are you using?
Love this video help me with catching blue gills
Great video 👍 due. And you putting back.
Yes yes more Bream videos did you do this one in Florida if so what part of the state I have family in Navarre. Thanks awesome video just wasn’t long enough.
YES MORE!!!!.
nice copperhead bream and shellcracker . what lake and state were you at?
You and Brandon Jordan need to face each other in a blue Gil challenge
Haha you may be onto something!
6:55 that’s a shellcracker😂😂
Yes i loved this video. Bluegils are one of my favorite fish besides mullets. But next time wear a gator hat, lol. Keep up the bluegills video's.
Curtis Stewart thanks for watching Curtis!
Awesome video, thanks for posting
I love Bluegills! Keep them coming!
My uncle Elmer used to take me fishing for blue gill in Arkansas, never used anything but crickets. sometimes when the fish weren't biting, he would spit tobacco juice on the cricket. He told me I had to Chew my own redman, I said no thank you, I don't want a fish that chews tobacco.
Nice size fish. I don't eat them but I love to catch them.
Thank you! I have never ate a bluegill either but will try it soon hopefully.
The Bass Guy ya I fish at the Mount Pleasant pear South Carolina and I got 3 good size fish. I had to skin them which was the worst part. Squid is one of the best bait to use there
More bluegill vids man. I just temporally switched back to bluegill fishing however, I'm having trouble removing the hooks once they've engulfed it any tips on removing the hooks once swallowed? I don't like returning a fish to the water with hooks in their mouths.
What type of rod are you using
Aye, sometimes it's just fun looking at relaxing things like this
thank you for watching!
Yer welcome! Keep it up!
Is this in Lake Okeechobee? if not where?
The once in a lifetime bluegill you caught @ 7:00 was actually a redear. Still big though.
Great video. Ive been fishing for crappie and bluegill. Not much luck yet. Thanks for showing us. Keep up the good job. Subscribing.
thanks a lot norman!
The Bass Guy thank you my friend 👍😎
Please keep making bluegill fishing videos. Thanks
Lots of crickets in backyard. I think bluegill like them best.
Awesome bluegill video man I’m more than a little jealous!!!!
Thanks man. Jim went out there and caught 65 in just a few hours all that size.
Nice! I found your channel thru Jiggin With Jordan and I love it! Keep Up The Great Work!!
Thanks for your support zack I am glad you enjoy it!
Great day Cricket worm you know the routine for Bluegill Sunfish the things you will start even a hit out on just enjoy the day.
You need to keep some and cook em up. I’ve been eating bluegill since before I can remember.
Joe Dunn i will keep em for sure next time joe thanks for watching and the suggestion
Nothing lame about catching big bluegill. Way better than beating the bank for bass that nobody wants to eat.
That's what I'm talking bout!
Great looking fish man, keep them coming
thanks marion!
Where did you get your boat?
Never heard of using live crickets! the results were quite rewarding
absoluetly! it was a first time for me!
Good fish but that redear was not a mounting size we have 3-4 pound redear over here
I would drop down to a size 6# hook.
ok thanks for the tip
I totally agree that you will catch more with the size 6 hook, but the downside is that you will gut hook more fish. The huge ones are fun to catch but the hand size gills taste better in my opinion. If that were my pond, I would be keeping the next size down from the biggest ones. If you are doing that, the smaller hook is great. But using the smaller hook with those monster gills in there, you will end up killing some of those really big ones by gut hooking them. Someone mentioned that redear bight the worms better. They do. The thing that I don't like about worms is that I gut hook more fish with them than any other type of bait. My recommendation is only use worms when you plan to clean fish. God bless.
Yeah...you can avoid a lot of that gut hooking by just tipping small feather type jig with some bait.
Keep bluegill videos, coming wish I was where you at I would be in heaven . so much actually nothing else is biting and taste really good
What lake were you fishing?
"It's not pee-it's milt. Fish semen."--Peter North
Those was some huge bluegill and a giant shellcraker wow.
thanks man!
I would love to see another bluegill video I love fishing for Bluegill please make another video with hit me up
Love the video! How did you know how deep to set the bobber? Was it trial and error?
Thanks man yes trial and error
Can't believe you didn't eat em up they taste great and it helps the bass to clean up the bigger ones that compete for food the bass may need
very nice
They are such good eating. A one pounder will fight like mad.
