Silver and his stories. I do wonder whether his real back story had something to do with his reluctance to let Madi go. If only he actually told Flint his story instead of making sh$t up. Anyhow, pay close attention to the dialogue in this episode guys.

@@sboyd8312I went to check out the breakdown and while I love the love for black sails I guess it just wasn't for me. Lot of good points were made but also some I couldn't see any validity in. e.g. Like Blackbeards introduction being cringe or the series adding sexy violence because GoT had violence. Black sails is a series about ruthless pirates, I think violence is a requirement and the very first episode begins and ends with violence so it's hard to argue that the writers saw GoT and then decided to add violence. Then the suggestion that the sexual assault scene with Max was added again because of GoT. I think this is giving far too much credit to GoT and not enough to the black sails writers who most likely had the script ready long before we saw the series. This was the 1700's in Nassau, alongside Tortuga, one of the most lawless places in the new world. I don't think a sexual assault scene is unusual and it had a purpose, it wasn't just there for shock value. In any case I didn't watch the rest of the video but glad to see the series getting more recognition.
I love the moment were both Flint and the viewer realize how little they actually know Silver. He has succeeded in making himself such a blank slate that it allowed others to project what they wanted to see on to him. Flint wanted a partner and friend. Madi wanted a husband and ally in her fight. Hands wanted a leader to follow. Billy a figurehead for his resistance. The men wanted a pirate king to rally behind. The audience a protagonist to root for. Which of those things really is Silver? Or is he none of them? You could also make the argument that this show is Silver's backstory. That when you pick up "Treasure Island" and meet this grizzled, hardened old pirate named Long John, what created him is the events we've been watching for 4 seasons.
So well said. I think Silver is a protagonist absolutely. Flint is the protagonist of this story of course but it is interesting to see the audience remember this is really Silver’s story and that in hindsight HE is the most important character in this series. This was a great match up in Flint, being someone who’s backstory defines him, paired with someone who refuses to see himself that way.
@@ineshadixon1377 Silver the most important character? mmm...can't say I agree there. It builds him up as a villain for treasure island so his story is important but I consider this to be Flint's story and an alternative treasure island series (if ever made) would be Silvers story of how his demons catch up to him.
@@mijanhoque1740 Oh, Flint is absolutely my #1, too. He's my favorite character of all time. But I feel like a show like this can have multiple protagonists pushing the plot forward. Depending on who your favorite is, your protagonist is someone else's antagonist. I loved Jack this whole series, right up until Grandma Guthrie told him to kill Flint and then I was like, "Welp, nice knowing you, Jack". 😂😂
Long John Silver’s character reminds me of the line that Flint said about the origin of his name: “It was as if the sea had conjured that man out of nothing, and then taken him back for some unknowable purpose.”
Well said! I also love that this dynamic is hidden in plain sight for most the duration of the show. It comes into focus for us only when it comes into focus for Flint. So despite how familiar we all *feel* we've become with Silver, it turns out he's still a mystery to us. Incredible storytelling! I seriously doubt I'll ever love another show as much as Black Sails or another duo as much as Silver-Flint.
AREN'T THOSE FLASHBACK SCENES SO GOOD??? This whole episode is on fire (too soon? my apologies to the Walrus). It has to be my favorite episode of Black Sails, and one of my favorite episodes of tv ever. I remember Nikki being touched during the season 3 finale when Flint chose to be honest with Silver, sharing his whole story with him. I love how Flint’s vulnerability in that episode is juxtaposed with Silver’s unwillingness to be fully known in this episode. In a show where we know quite a lot about the history of our main characters, Silver chooses to remain shrouded in mystery. And it's sad because Silver is unarguably the closest person to Flint now, and has been for a while, but Silver refuses to (to use Flint's words) make himself transparent to Flint. It's really well done and tragic. ALSO: Madi's scene with Rogers gives me FULL BODY CHILLS every time
That moment where Flint shoots his own guy to protect Silver is possibly my favorite moment of the show. That one action shows just how much Flint cares for him, because the viewer AND Silver know that even if they fight, Flint has no intention of killing him, which gives Silver a huge edge. S1 Flint would NEVER. SO GOOD.
Exactly, Flint from back then would've killed Silver in a heartbeat! lol Makes the line of "I've gained his respect and true friendship" much more impactful. What makes it even sadder is thinking Flint never allowed himself to get close to anyone those 10 years since Thomas. All he had was Miranda.
This episode is up there with Ozymandias from Breaking Bad. There isn't a single flaw on this episode, it's incredible. Can't wait for you to see the finale of this masterpiece. All hail Black Sails!
Every moment between Flint and Silver is so incredibly captivating. The two of them have such a touching relationship especially thinking back where they began and how far they have come. When Flint shoots Dooley in spite of them being his only true ally in that moment, it really solidifies how much Flint cares about Silver.
Literally my favorite episode of television ever!!! "You'll step into that painting and feel the swell beneath your feet" Every scene and I mean EVERY scene is so powerful. The acting, the writing, amazing!! The Rogers/Madi scene had so much emotion from both sides, especially Madi. The flashbacks of Flint/Silver....I'm in tears over here with this dialogue. The old man with Jack and his amazing monologue. Oh and all that great sword fighting. And fuck Billy One more.......
God I have such a love-hate relationship with this episode........ Like don't get me wrong, it's an absolutely AMAZING episode, but seeing the good ol' Walrus on fire and several of her original crew members dead always makes me so incredibly sad... That aside, I can't wait for your reactions to the finale!! Black Sails is my favourite show of all times and it's been so much fun getting to experience it again together with you guys.
It’s interesting a large part of why I love Flint’s character is his deep and traumatic backstory. Yet a large part of why I love Silver is because his backstory is such a mystery. The fact that we don’t know what’s shaped him or if anything he’s revealed is true (including his name) makes his arc that much more compelling to me. Don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for any reaction to any show than N&S’s to 4x10. For me the greatest ending to the greatest story told in this medium is up next.
Couldn't agree more. People always say I'm exaggerating when I say this show and it's ending are as close to perfect as you can get. But I will stand by it till the day I die that this is the best show ever made.
It feels like Flint's character was created a long time ago whereas Silver's character is a new character. If we would dig into Silver's past, we would find something pretty boring. His story began where the show began. He is the lying chameleon who did everytime to survive. That is what made him exciting. This is why they complete each other.
When Nikki was constantly repeating „can’t we talk to each other“ in the Joji vs Flint fight a crazy thought popped into my head that Joji doesn’t understand a single word of English and just goes along with whatever is happening xD
The "samurai" pirate was Joji, his been part of the crew since the very beggining, he never had a single line of dialogue , but the show is so good that we care about him . Rip joji , besides vane , he was the only one who give flint a tough fight .
@@DarkMatterLuigi The main job of "actor" is being a head of the large and prestigious center of martial arts in Capetown where shootings of the show happened. He is a professional trainer, so he did what he could do the best in the show.
I honestly love the fact that we don't know Silver's backstory. It really hammers the point that your past does not have to define you, your actions in the present do. And the lack of a tragic past does not in any way make John a weaker character, because right from the start he still had a very defined personality. A lot of what people love about Flint in the show does stem from his backstory (which is the reason S2E5 is one of the show's major turning points), where as we just love Silver because of who he is, not what he was. I'd even argue that the lack of a tragic backstory (that we at least know of) is quite refreshing in this day of modern television.

to give further credit to this episode just watching your reaction made me feel the weight and exhaustion watching the actual episode gives me. but it is nice that despite all the tension and drama and stakes, jack’s little comedy romp is still going strong this far along
Thank you picking this awesome series way back when - this now is the point when it starts to *really* tie into "Treasure Island" - it`s *the* island after all... do yourself a favour and check out one of the "Treasure Island" versions after finishing this, not for the channel but for yourself and how awesome this is, better yet, read the book, it's a fairly compact novel that flows well... anyway: trust me, and everyone here: The end is stunningly *awesome* - looking forward to see you see it^^. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Great reaction. Im looking forward to seeing the next episode. Rest in peace The Walrus and her crew. I like to mention a conversation that Silver had with Billy about The Walrus. Silver and Billy looking at the battered Walrus, that under normal cicumstances, should have had sunk: "Everything we have put that ship through.....and she just refuses to die......its fucking unnatural" From shipkiller storms, a spanish man of war, being beached, being shot to peices by Rogers men in the fort, to be becalmed in fucking nowhere....the list goes on, in the end it was its own powder magasin that got it blown to peices and sunk. Nothing from the outside could doom it. Like many of our charaters, the end comes from within. Again, rest in peace The Walrus and her crew. Also, Fuck you Billy for encouraging Rogers to set The Walrus on fire. That was a dick move.
One of my favorite scenes is when Jack's being told about the old dude dying, and Jack just stands there going, "Mhm. Mhm. Mhm." Like, "Of *course* the guy died. Just my f'ing luck."
The finale is going to be absolutely fantastic. Having seen it so many times now, it keeps on morphing. So be prepared to change what you think of it over time. Very emotional finale.
I am so FREAKING excited for the finale. I'll have a waterfall of comments for that one. Love you guys for doing this series and hopefully bringing a few more sailors into the Black Sails fantasy Armada. Love this incredibly deep and thoughtful human story. So HYPED for finale. See you two there.
I remember being so emotionally drained when I first saw this episode and also so conflicted because for as frustrated as I was with Silver, I didn’t want anyone to lose but I just had this dread feeling that someone had to lose.
The best episode in TV history! This episode goes from red hot burn to red hot burn🤧 , I hope we get a treasure island adaptation with these characters & actors 🙏🏼
LOVE Nikki’s reaction that we don’t know anything about Silver! That was one of the most underrated twists for me. I like to think I’m a savvy watcher but I was exactly the same, “oh fuck I know NOTHING of Silver before we found him.” Incredible!!! What a mind fuck.
Favourite episode of the season and the entire series. It's just a masterpiece. I have things to blather on about but I'll wait til y'all wrap things all the way up. I just wanna say I appreciate your understanding from Silver's POV as I see very little of that from people in general lol.
I wonder if we might see tough Steven fight a manly tear next episode^^ if anything can do it, it would the Black Sails series finale, considering how much they are both into it
I finally got round to watching black sails. Great show. Love your reaction. Can't wait for the final episode. Tom Holland who played Billy is in UMBRELLA academy. I highly recommend that show. Its really good
For me the Next episode has one of the best conversation/speeches ever, it’s tied for first with the last 5 minutes of season 3 episode 10 when Billy and Maddie talks intertwined. As for silver “backstabbing” flint, the way I see it as more of silver failing flint in a few different areas, like failing to strong, rational, and work this situation in this difficult situation and failing to trusting flint. As for the way they finish this series they are just simply putting it on the trajectory for the book.
Joji's death hurt me and I don't even know why, perhaps the fact he was always there in the background, and now that he's gone, we as audience, understand that everything has changed and it's about to end
That reveal the writers added in to remind you that you do not know anything about John Silver, while you recall every character you like and you know somewhat of their back story (ie. Vane, Flint, Elenor, Jack & Anne, etc), reveals how great a manipulator and mind that is portrayed here of John Silver. When he first showed up, you'll think he was just the side character for comic relief. If you watch ithe whole series again, you'll see how he manipulated his way to the top while not giving away anything. His character development arc was immense.
See Game of Thrones, this show that you CAN do flashbacks(other than Bran seeing the past). Black Sails is really one of the best written shows I have ever watched. The dialogue is sublime. And they wrote male friendship like I have never seen before. I really appreciate that.
So excited to see your reactions to the "Black Sails" finale. :) Unrelated (and my apologies -- I know show suggestions are annoying, haha): you should consider watching "Arcane" on Netflix. I know it's animated, but it will surprise the heck out of you. SUPER emotional and mature, and hands-down the most impressive animation visuals I've ever seen. I'm a 47 year old dad & the dang thing made me cry several times... "Arcane" & "Midnight Mass" are the two best things I've seen on TV this year. Just blew me away.
With the end of Black Sails any chance to replace one Star's classic with another? Spartacus has a couple of rough early episodes but turns into a great show with a language of its own.
Joji, the Samurai Pirate; even made Flint hesitate before the fight. You could tell in the back of Flint's head he was like "Oh shit i gotta fight him?!" lol For real, Joji was the Boba Fett of Black Sails. No lines, all baddass!
Keep in mind for the finale that John Silver is the biggest liar in the series. So you never know when he is telling the truth and when he is not. As you have correctly noted here, we basically know nothing about John Silver.
I wonder if you are able to do a 2 part reaction to the final episode? there's just so much epic dialogue i dont think 10 mins is gonna cut it. can't wait for next week.
Right about Hands chirping away in Silver ear like bro shhh you making it worse! Even tho he speaks truth of Flint character. Flint before would've ripped thru Silver no issue but now his feelings are genuine & have changed but no one will recognize it because of his past. Silver in the back of his mind knows but his thoughts are clouded right now.
„Even if you could kill me. Even if that somehow helped you see her alive again. How are you gonna explain it to her? She believes in this as much as I do. You know this. If it costs a war to save her, you’ll have lost her anyway. Even you cannot construct a story to make her forgive you that.“ Are you sure about that one, Flint?

@@jasonkoch1618 Exactly! It’s a war that would possibly be for others in the future, but not for any of them alive now that can have a home now without laying their lives down.
@@jasonkoch1618 It is if it's HER war and she acknowledges that her life is less important. There's nothing dumb about it.
What an incredible journey these reactions have been.
This is going to be the longest week ever 😅😊🏴☠️
maybe the only pirate to die of old age, haha
The finale is going to be absolutely fantastic. Having seen it so many times now, it keeps on morphing. So be prepared to change what you think of it over time. Very emotional finale.
I am so FREAKING excited for the finale. I'll have a waterfall of comments for that one.
Love you guys for doing this series and hopefully bringing a few more sailors into the Black Sails fantasy Armada.
Love this incredibly deep and thoughtful human story.
So HYPED for finale. See you two there.
Fun fact: Toby Stephens, the actor who portrays Flint is literally voicing James Bond in the audio books for those novels.
Well he played in Bond movie.
@@constanza86 He did, indeed. The worst one imo, but he still tried his best at it.
The Flint/Silver friendship is one of my favorites in all of TV.
Also, RIP De Groot! You were always right! ALWAYS!
RIP Joji, the Silent Killer.
Its really good
Billy was played by Tom Hopper*
Tom Holland is the little guy who plays Spider-Man
For me the Next episode has one of the best conversation/speeches ever, it’s tied for first with the last 5 minutes of season 3 episode 10 when Billy and Maddie talks intertwined.
Silver knows what's at stake he just doesn't care. Nothing else matters, but Madi. He's whipped.....lol.
Black Sails "XXXVII" aka the episode where everyone puts respect on my man Joji's name without even knowing his name. Dude was a proper silent badass.
A standout character episode in a standout character show. ❤️❤️ I love those sword fighting flashbacks.
Flint is a walking terminator on Skull island
R.I.P Mr De Groot. This was one of the best, if not the best episode in the series.
I heard someone analyze that Mr. Degroot is a living symbol of the ship. Once the ship died Degroot died.
2-part finale reaction PLEEEEEEASE! Favorite characters, arcs, episodes? Still top 3 of most underrated?
You might want to check out Wheel of Time :) series is just starting out, based on excelent book series, it might be just up your alley 😊
Thankyou. I am trying to also get them in on it. That or Netflix Barbarians. It's so good.
Joji, the Samurai Pirate; even made Flint hesitate before the fight. You could tell in the back of Flint's head he was like "Oh shit i gotta fight him?!" lol
For real, Joji was the Boba Fett of Black Sails.
Toby Stephen’s reads Sea of Thieves on Audible. Also some 007 and Raymond Chandler detective mysteries.
Flints plan wouldve worked but Madi wouldve died
Right about Hands chirping away in Silver ear like bro shhh you making it worse! Even tho he speaks truth of Flint character. Flint before would've ripped thru Silver no issue but now his feelings are genuine & have changed but no one will recognize it because of his past. Silver in the back of his mind knows but his thoughts are clouded right now.
„Even if you could kill me. Even if that somehow helped you see her alive again. How are you gonna explain it to her? She believes in this as much as I do. You know this. If it costs a war to save her, you’ll have lost her anyway.
Even you cannot construct a story to make her forgive you that.“
Are you sure about that one, Flint?
"that's a dare" said Silver
Well, he was right wasn’t he?
this episode is hard because my favourite ship sunk... literally. RIP Walrus and the OG best, Joji and Mr Degroot
I don’t mean to ask since this is a completely different show but I didn’t see it on the schedule since since I checked before I asked lol, but are you guys going to react to Hawkeye?
Joji's death was so unnecessary, I was so depressed after this episode.
You should react to Arcane.
Definitely check out The Last Kingdom or Daredevil after this
hi I thought you should try The Wheel of Time. have seen four episodes and it is good
Absolutely love your reactions to ... EVERYTHING you watch. Have you given thought to Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime?
I also wouldn’t trust Flint is trying to save Madi if I were Silver, because if Silver didn’t intervene Woodes would’ve already killed Madi.
Came here to say this. Also sacrificing your loved one/wife for a war you aren't guaranteed to even win is dumb. If victory was guaranteed sure it makes sense but 95 out of 100 times they are gonna lose this war anyway.
Madi's character is meant to represent many ex slaves in the Caribbean who rebelled against England even against great odds. I wouldn't say their efforts were dumb in the least, so I wouldn't say Madi's is either. The ripples inspire the next generation and eventually that fight has meaningful impact. Silver was being selfish
@@LeahB31 can't have people fighting for future generations now can we...lol what do you think any of the world wars in history were fought for? The present? Or a better way of life for the next generation?
@@gemelwalters2942 Flint also being selfish, he just wants war/revenge he really doesn't care about freeing slaves. Getting madi back in place of the cache is better for the war anyway then you have 3 of the best tacticians on the side of the pirates, with flint's plan you just have flint.
I just still miss vain and wish he made it to this season
Just think of the possibilities
@@christoferlucas7871 the only thing that would change is Woods would have put him under the ship after Teach. Or Grandma Guthrie would tell Jack he'd have to Kill Flint and Vane or Silver would kill him. In every scenario Vane would die
@@gemelwalters2942 you can't really say that.
You can't really figure out that outcome
The reason teach for under the boat was cause of vanes death
Hey you guys should watch la brea. Great show.
it was benny with the bottle in the study:D Benny the rum lad oh ho ho and a bottle of.....
Will y’all be watching the prequel to game of thrones if so can you react to the trailer ? ❤️❤️❤️
27:03 Rick Grimes makes an entrance, And in the next epsiode of Rick grimes crosses over sorry my head ran away with me
I bet he drinks carling black label ;)
It was supposed to get a fifth series which involved the Spanish trying to get the gold luckily they tie it off well at the end it is so underrated but lots of shows were overlooked because of big shows like game of thrones and game of thrones isnt even that good
It wasn't "supposed" to get a fifth series, the showrunners had considered a potential adaptation of Treasure Island but felt the show and book should remain separate. One of the producers even said: "It was during season four when we felt like all the endings we hoped we would get to were starting to approach very quickly."
I am sure that this is been suggested to you before but I feel I need to do the same. Can you please react to Yellowstone it is as good as the show if not better definitely one of my all-time favorites like this. So just one more vote for Yellowstone.
Nikki do the Arghh before season ends....gotta say totally enjoyed yer vids guys thank you
It’s a bitter sweet ending
Please do For All Mankind.
Please! Nobody has done it justice yet. Fantastic alternate history.

16:12 bloody miserable old git turns up and spoils the party :D
WAtch Arcane please, it is on Netflix, is an animated series, but it is not for children, it has a great plot and character development, it would be great if you watch it
