Keith is playing rhythm guitar and Ronnie Wood (since 1974) is the lead guitarist. Ronnie plays some of the best solos in rock history, even in his days with Rod Stewart in the band Faces.
Actually, Keith usually shows up in the upper echelons of guitar players. I just checked Rolling Stone's list (last fall) of 250 best guitarists. Keith was #15. 💜☮
Keith was not able to play as fluently on lead as Mick Taylor, but he always makes it on the high reaches of "Rock" guitar gods for his brilliant riffs which reflects his brilliant song writing talents.
The riff is all Keith but a lot of the intricacies in the guitar work is coming from Ronnie. This album brought the Stones into a new musical direction to keep current with changes in the music scene at the time. I remember when the album came out and thinking When the Whip Comes Down was the only song that reminded me of their previous stuff and I wasn’t 100% on board with this “new sound” coming from the band. Years later I came to really appreciate the genius of it!
It has to be said that this is another classic song that Ron Wood played that you hear him holler on. Around the 1:30 mark. You can hear the same on Faces, Rod Stewart, and other records. I once heard him say that it was just the way they miked the guitars back then.
One of my favorites back in the day... Still sounds good!✌️👍💯...... The Stones been around for about 60 years!!! And still doing it I believe! Legendary!
Some Girls is such an awesome album... Not a bad song on it. Hit Shattered, Far Away Eyes, Miss You Thx!! I loved LA's reaction on Some Girls !! That shit was so funny, keep rocking dudes
The Stones music is timeless. Glad to see another generation enjoying their unique vibe , there really isn’t any other band that comes close to their ability to venture into so many genres but keep true to their sound . Give Let it Bleed a listen .
Hypnotic drums by the late Charlie Watts, RIP. ( I have long loved his style, since the age of 14, and I'm now 59 yrs old in 2024) This track here is a premium timeless classic! Once again, you both gave a warm and appreciative reaction, you fellas are awesome at keeping great music alive!
You're mentioning the guitar work and this song demonstrates very well the signature 2 guitar sound with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood alternating leads. It's one of the best attributes of the Stones throughout their history that they always have that 2nd guitar opposite Richards - starting with original member Brian Jones and then Mick Taylor and then finally Ronnie Wood since the mid-70's.
Great one. Thanks guys. Bought this vinyl album when it first came out and played it to death. Fun fact: Back in the '90s the Stones gave Microsoft the rights for "Start Me Up" for a new OS. I think, at the time, it was a radical move to license their music for advertising. Perhaps not so much today.
The Stones made an appearance on Saturday Night Live when this album was being released, and played "Beast Of Burden", with Mick giving Keith a lick on his ear towards the end of the song. People lost their shit at that one. Still have my copy of "Some Girls" with all the pictures, Farrah Fawcett-Majors later sued to get her picture removed, along with a few other ladies.
My personal favorite Rolling Stones album. Rock went through so many gyrations during the 70’s. This was when the music was so good! Never knew what the bands were going to bring.
Y'all wanna hear Mick "Showin' out," check him on "Shattered" from this same album, as he rants on magnificently about the glorious, rotting apple that was New York City in the decadent, spiraling late 70's!
Wife here. Read up about original album cover on that one. Also few more to listen to off that one Shattered and Whip ,Some Girls and Before they make me run . Enjoy
Please, please listen to the whole album "Exile on Main Street". It's an experience like a Zeppelin or Pink Floyd record. A masterpiece. A masterpiece that's completely and totally the Rolling Stones. All of the musicians are at the peak of their powers. The guitars, the percussion, the bass and the vocals are something special. There's horns and a gospel choir and all the things put the Stones in a category that's all their own.
seen the Stones in concert a couple times back in the day. once in Jacksonville Florida at the gator bowl...the stones with billy preston and j giles and the eagles. great show
One of the Stones best. Shoot -- one of Rock's best. As an aside -- the initial printing of this album cover included photos of famous female movie stars as part of the "Some Girls" theme of the album. But they didn’t obtain permission from the stars before putting them on the cover. So they had to redo the album cover. I bought an early printing. Still have the album.
This album is great for so many reasons, it marked the new age of the Rolling Stones , the start of the Ron Wood era and came at the end of the disco years and you can hear that influence in some of the songs . I also think Micks voice voice changed from this point going forward and was different than the early early days of the Stones, but in the end, it’s still just fantastic.
For whatever reason, this was the song my older child always fell asleep with as a baby. I'd put "Beast of Burden" on, slowly rock and and sing to her, and she'd calm down and drift off. If being an awesome song wasn't enough, this memory cements it as one of my favorite songs ever.
In July 1978 Stones touring this album played at Soldier Field. Opening was Southside Johnnie, Peter Tosh and then Journey. At that concert I remember thinking - these guys have been around a long time how much longer can they keep going and stay together. Well here we almost 46 years later and I hear they are touring again?
Keith and Ronnie Wood on guitars. I believe the Stone’s guitars are truly under appreciated. Keith’s rhythm riffs are legendary. And you’re absolutely right, so often Charlie and Bill create an incredible pocket, Keith et al. (Ronnie or Mick before) fill this syncopated R&B, country, blues, rock multi- guitar sound that funks and the Mick just skates all over it with his lead singing. They’re just a incredible band
Fellas ... where you been? Good to have you back in the saddle. I always heard more R&B to this Keith riff. Guitar weave IS stellar. They all in the pocket. Tight and loose at the same time. Stay with this album: Far Away Eyes (talk about country!) Respectable (kind of punk, slash and burn, Charlie driving the boat) WIll not do you wrong ...
Keiths phrasing is the best ever. Funky guitar and bass playing at its best. Love Charlie's swinging drum style. I love the Beatles, Zep and Floyd too. But they can't match the Stones for funky grooves.
You must react to "Far Away Eyes" from this album. This brings back some great memories!!! We were lucky, such great music we had when I was growing up. Nothing produced or performed today can hold a candle to this great music. I feel bad for all you kids out there nobody even plays an instrument anymore.🎵🎼🎸🎶👍✌️
Lot of soul in this one. Your comments really make me appreciate Stones on a new level, and i,ve been a Stones fan for about 59-60 years. Well done you two
Haha there is definitely something sexy and sultry about the guitar and the song in general. Underrated by me. Most 70’s Stones you listen to will be exceptional.
Charlie Watts quietly putting on a drum clinic while everybody else in the band soaks up the spotlight.
RIP, Mr Watts.
Keith is playing rhythm guitar and Ronnie Wood (since 1974) is the lead guitarist. Ronnie plays some of the best solos in rock history, even in his days with Rod Stewart in the band Faces.
You're right. Charlie is really showing his keen timing skills on this.
Yes. Absolutely. Like a rock
His snare tone is best in the biz!
Charlie Watts was a jazz drummer. The Stones gig was his day job.
Keef, the riff king strikes again. Richards will never be listed in the pantheon of guitar gods. But nobody writes a better riff.
Actually, Keith usually shows up in the upper echelons of guitar players. I just checked Rolling Stone's list (last fall) of 250 best guitarists. Keith was #15. 💜☮
Love me some Keef.
Riff monster.
Keith was not able to play as fluently on lead as Mick Taylor, but he always makes it on the high reaches of "Rock" guitar gods for his brilliant riffs which reflects his brilliant song writing talents.
If I had to guess, I’d say it was Keith in the right channel and Ronnie Wood in the left. Can any corroborate?
Keef and Ronnie and their "Ancient Art of Weaving" intertwined guitar style...not straight lead, not just rhythm... so, so good.
It’s so fun to try to pick what parts are Ronnie and what parts are Keef
Zactly
@@wdrauch. yeah. its both. they are so interchangeable, and so complimentary to each other.
Keith and Brian Jones also did it pretty well in their early days. ua-cam.com/video/rDoC49Fnwek/v-deo.html
Which was taught to Keith early in the Stones career by Brian Jones. In his book he gives Jones credit for the weaving technique.
The Stones have their own Groove that’s what makes them so great.
1978 was a great year for music fans.
A little blues, a little funk, a little country, a lotta jams. This has to be one of my top 5 Stones songs. Everything about it is so damn smooth.
Often gets overlooked but definitely one of my favourites
It's a Charlie Watts drum clinic that the rest of the guys just danced all over. Great track.
When Charlie lays down the dance floor like that, there’s no other choice.
Records produced in the 70's had such a great analog timber and vibe.
One of my favorites back in the day... Still sounds good!✌️👍💯...... The Stones been around for about 60 years!!! And still doing it I believe! Legendary!
Oh, man!! Now you need to play 'Shattered', off the same album!!
Shedooby
Smokeadoobie - shattered-shattered
The last fully great Stones album. Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You had their moments, but Some Girls was solid.
Some Girls is such an awesome album... Not a bad song on it. Hit Shattered, Far Away Eyes, Miss You Thx!! I loved LA's reaction on Some Girls !! That shit was so funny, keep rocking dudes
This whole album is killer
Now you've got to get a Girl..With Far Away Eyes...
Thanks again, men...
The Stones music is timeless. Glad to see another generation enjoying their unique vibe , there really isn’t any other band that comes close to their ability to venture into so many genres but keep true to their sound . Give Let it Bleed a listen .
And one of the best live albums imo, Get Yer Ya Yas Out.
I love the Stones, but Grateful Dead cover three times as many genres as the Stones.🙄
Keith Richards is the greatest Americana guitarist in rock - straight from Britain.
Got you beat. I was first wowed by Charlie’s drumming in 1968, when I was 18. (Currently 73.)
When the whip comes down. Respectable.
This is a great Stones album. You need to review every track on the album.
thanks
Love this album, fav is "Shattered." Really dig the vocals on that one.
Beast is so beautiful vocally and the guitar is smooth. ROCK ON!! 🔥
great albums from 1978
Stones and Sabbath! A great day
This is a good way to start the day 👌🏾
Been lurking around this channel a while. Love it when v you cut your eyes at each other like, DID YOU HEAR THAT ?.
Thanks for rocking with us!!

The Stones will always be in my rotation, always
This album stayed in the car cassette deck all year, MISS YOU, SHATTERED, love Mick's vocals on the Temps JUST MY IMAGINATION.
Excellent reaction to an excellent song by excellent band ! Thanks fellas for a great start to the day 👍 👌
Stones hit the road in about 5 weeks opening a US Tour in Houston. Timeless and Unparalleled.
I used to think only the grave would bring this band to an end. Now I’m not so sure that’ll stop them.
The official video for “Far Away Eyes.” Rolling Stones.
More Stones please guy's. You haven't even scratched the surface yet.
Great stuff!A big comeback for them in 1978. This album brings back such memories
One of my favorite Stones jams ...just so groovy
Such a perfect soul/blues/rock song
One of my favorite Rolling Stones hits❤❤
I remember that
The tie-in was that was when Microsoft introduced the Start button to the desktop. Hence, the song.
One of my favorite Rolling Stones songs been listening to to them since the 60’s. Thank you both for the review.
Keith and Ronnie played guitar fills around two of rock's greatest singers. Their sounds add up to a big part of classic rock.
True!
Second fave Stones album behind Sticky fingers. Where SF was a darker album, this is a much brighter and fun. Every song is a keeper.
My personal favorite Rolling Stones album. Rock went through so many gyrations during the 70’s. This was when the music was so good! Never knew what the bands were going to bring.
They got some pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty chords. 🎸
Y'all wanna hear Mick "Showin' out," check him on "Shattered" from this same album, as he rants on magnificently about the glorious, rotting apple that was New York City in the decadent, spiraling late 70's!

Well said. Exile is a masterpiece.
Greatest Rock n Roll band ever 🤘
seen the Stones in concert a couple times back in the day. once in Jacksonville Florida at the gator bowl...the stones with billy preston and j giles and the eagles. great show
Great lp. Bought it when it came out so it has all of the unauthorized pics. Plus decent songs.
The British influence on music is incalculable!
You can’t go too far past Charlie’s back beat. One of the best drummers ever
always like this, on same ablum must here Shattered!!!
Thanks, guys--great song, great reaction.
I've had this album on vinyl, 8 track, cassette, CD, download. I was a teen in 1978 when this masterpiece was released.
Keith's guitar phrasing is second to none.
Funky guitar, not just funky rhythm section.
For whatever reason, this was the song my older child always fell asleep with as a baby. I'd put "Beast of Burden" on, slowly rock and and sing to her, and she'd calm down and drift off. If being an awesome song wasn't enough, this memory cements it as one of my favorite songs ever.
You two guys are solid gold... and so is this band .
Saw this concert 1978, JFK stadium Philadelphia. Just me and 100,000 of my closest friends
Should do every song on this album. This Tour was one of their finest.
This song is undeniable. In any setting in America, young or old, everybody will sing along to this one
Keith and Ronnie Wood on guitars. I believe the Stone’s guitars are truly under appreciated. Keith’s rhythm riffs are legendary. I always heard more R&B to this Keith riff. Guitar weave IS stellar. They all in the pocket. Tight and loose at the same time.
Stay with this album:
Far Away Eyes (talk about country!)
Respectable (kind of punk, slash and burn, Charlie driving the boat)
WIll not do you wrong ...
What a fun album. It was the first album I bought when I arrived at college in 1978. I love every song.
Thanks for taking me to a trip down memory lane. 👍🏻
Keiths phrasing is the best ever. Funky guitar and bass playing at its best. Love Charlie's swinging drum style.
I love the Beatles, Zep and Floyd too.
But they can't match the Stones for funky grooves.
They were masters. Truly brilliant playing and vocals. What a band! What a song!
A song from my last year of Highschool. There was so much great music from the 1960's through the 1980's, I'm still catching up.
🎶✌️🫴🍁🎶
You must react to "Far Away Eyes" from this album. This brings back some great memories!!! We were lucky, such great music we had when I was growing up. Haha there is definitely something sexy and sultry about the guitar and the song in general.
Underrated by me.
Most 70’s Stones you listen to will be exceptional.
They better not take the channel down! I’ll be devastated. Play by their rules Laa and Chee, please…
My favorite Rolling Stones song!
Listen to Shattered from the same album. 🎉
This is their best album. No absolute monster songs but every song is almost an almost monster, hits hard and hit one after another with no letup.
Yes the stones again ❤, thank you! Love this song...
Oh come on! I knew you guys would get to this classic eventually. Thank you!
One of my top 10 favorite albums ever. That’s saying a lot. Beethoven, Dylan, Springsteen, Gaye, Stones, the Mt. Rushmore of music.❤🎵🎶🎤🎹🎸🎼
One of Mick's all time best vocals!!! Great reaction guys!
Next you need to do "Shattered!"
Rock and country both have their roots in BLUES...That's what you're hearing.
Excellent reviews you guys. This LP was my very first vinyl ever back in the day, I still own it and have not played it in decades.
Stones harmonies are criminally underrated
Love to see younger people appreciating the music I've loved all my life great reaction.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! MORE STONES!! YEA!!! LOVE this song!! This whole album is GREAT! :) ...and, the album cover was very unique, as well!
I was lucky to see the stones in 1978 on their some girls tour and this is a great song!
It was awesome!!!
We called them the Disco Stones back then, Charlie used to frequent Disco's.
One of the 5 best pieces that the greatest privateers in rock history have delivered in their 62-year stage career...
Some Girls is a banger of an album. A mix of rock &roll, blues, country, r&b, disco.
This is and was huge for The Stones!!
A cornerstone song
Indeed
Excellent reaction!!! Great, great song.
The rhythm session
My favorite Stones album......
Gotta listen to Shattered
R&B in pure Stones fashion!! Thanks guys..
So glad to see you reacting to the Stones again! And to one of favorite Stones songs, thanks!
I'm going to see them for 9th time in Vegas in May! ❤❤❤
