    Again, you did an excellent presentation. I also read candlesticks and look for support and resistance levels (s/r). If these s/r levels are at Fibonacci key levels, all the better. I work my way lower from the monthly chart, then weekly, then daily. I find it is always necessary to understand the major trend direction. A 30 minute or 15 minute chart with an 8/13 EMA crossover is usually very helpful in setting the trigger (entry or exit). I am now 74 and have been trading since 1982. Back then, I constructed my own charts using Lotus 1-2-3 and I identified s/r levels using point and figure charts. Once candlesticks became available to me I quickly became convinced that candlesticks told the most important story - especially the indecision doji's, inverted hammers, and spinning tops. Once again, Riley, I think you do excellent presentations. Here is some advice for those who follow you: “If you study something long enough you see what others don’t. Some people cook, I study charts. In both cases, if you don’t study hard enough you get burned.”

    Using indicators over multiple timeframes is how to do it properly for me. I've traded with and without indicators,I prefer using them. Everyone trades differently.

    Completely agree. I’ve been trading 11 years. Tried every indicator based strategy there is. They look great in hindsight but dont work consistently in real time.
    I have landed on using the line chart to get a nice clean visual of market and price action without noise of the candles. Then when I am marking out levels to trade from, stops, and take profit, I turn on the candles temporarily to fine tune and then go back to line chart. Line chart also lets you see super impulsive moves because it shows as one single straight line on chart. Which helps tell about trend and areas where price has paused and areas that might be good key levels.

    I appreciate the simplicity your explaining. I'm still working on being able to have the time and money to trade, and the times I have had, I still struggle with the patience. I started learning about day trading in January. Your videos, and a couple other traders on UA-cam keep the motivation alive. I have 1 day a week I'm available to trade and on those days i need to remember to % gained not the amount of money per trade. I think having a trading a account with 5k and then practicing all the principles youve mentioned would be in my ball park... I'm yet to really get fired up about single micro contracts. id much rather be able to have a higher risk to begin with.

    • @empororkill5

      That’s not true. You’d have to win 1 lose 2 to go in circles. You’re thinking of a 1:1 rr

      Err, nope. You risk 500 that you have, win 1000 then you have 1500. Lose 500, still have 1000. EmpororKill5 is correct.

    • @empororkill5
      @empororkill5 8 місяців тому

      @@PDeathDealersyou’re not BACK at 500, you’re UP 500 from 0. If you have 1000 to trade with, risk 500 & make 1000, you’re left with 2000. So then you lose a trade risking 500, you’re left with 1500. So you’re still UP 500, not back down to break even.

    • @empororkill5
      @empororkill5 8 місяців тому

      @@PDeathDealersnow with a 1:1 rr, you risk 500 to make 500, you win 1 trade, you’re left with 1500, then lose the next one, then you’re left with 1000. You’re talking about a 1:1 risk reward ratio. It’s literally in the ratio. 1:2, you win 1 trade, then you would have to lose 2 times to be back where you started.

    I assume your lot size is derivered from a Kelly criterion type equation?
    On the other end: One could use Non-Linear Additive Models (that could be tuned based on fundamentals of the specific equity, your time frame, etc., all very complex), then "predict" the current price. You end up with a very simple line simular to an EMA - but without the lag. The "smoothed" line traces a current "median" path. The difference between predicted price and the current price is like the same info of "crossing the EMA," but 10 bars earlier (in the "now".)
    However, I'm not convinced the lag is the full problem with indicators. I play with predictive machine learning, but I listen to you on how to trade, catch? To me, it's more that the market is an organic living organism, not a mathematical function. But, I see value in working that sort of tech into a scanner to help raise awareness about potential opportunities.
    I'm certainly starting to figure this trading stuff out. I'm grateful to have you constantly reminding me of the critical fundementals.

    What do you mean with $800 "risk size"? What is that exactly? Do you mean your position size? Or do you mean you set your stoploss at -50% lets say, with a position size of $1600? Just an example but if we dont know the exact definitions then its hard to understand properly tbh.🙏

    This is why I started disregarding indicators completely. I only read the candles and go in intuitively. Lot less stress and less confluence signals to be concerned about. Never trade with a Lot Size lower than 20.0 else it's a waste of time. Also always trade with the trend...most important. Hedge funds screw themselves cause they can't put all their eggs in 1 basket so their results is lower than going all the way into 1 trade and get out. Monitoring all those trades and managing it is a total balls up.
