Fun Fact: It was Paddy Considine who said Viserys needed to be in his "decrepit old man form" for this final scene with Daemon. That was his condition for coming back to do these scenes. Ryan Condal said that when Paddy said he needed to be looking like that when describing how the crown "crushes the life out of anyone who wears it" and offering it to Daemon, Ryan said that was brilliant and agreed right away.
I honestly don’t think there was any avoiding the pace of this season without it feeling rushed, considering all the beats they have to hit from the books that actually aren’t connected very well in text. They have to fill in a lot of blanks in order for all the events to actually make some sense.
So, my guess or theory about Vermithor’s new rider, Hugh, is that his mother was princess Saera Targaryen, daughter of King Jaehaerys I The Conciliator/The Old King, and of Good Queen Alysanne, sister to prince Baelon Targaryen (father of Viserys and Daemon). Saera was free spirited and rebellious, and had serious quarrels specially with her dad, so, to sum up, she ended up escaping and entering a pleasure garden, house? in Lys, Essos. I think she eventually became quite rich, but cut off her family ties forever. Though her mother sent her letters and even tried to go to Lys, Saera was kind of dead for Jaehaerys so he forbade ir, and Saera didn’t answer. By the way, you should really check out Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s story, she’s one of my favourite characters of the A Song of Ice and Fire world. And Vermithor was ridden by Jaehaerys, while Silverwing was ridden by Alysanne.
the way Aemond tells Vhagar "shit, let's go back" when he sees Rhaenyra with the other three dragons? pure satisfaction, Rhaenyra my Queen, you are the best 🖤🔥
This confirms that Laenor is really gone since seasmoke bonded with someone new. do yall think thats why Rhaena never got to claim him cause Laenor was still alive somewhere in pentos?
Yep, that's why it baffles me that Rhaenyra and Daemon tried to have her bond with him in the first place, they damn well knew his rider was still alive and he wasnt gonna accept a new bond and still had her try to claim him twice. When they had vermithor and silverwing downstairs in their dragon pit, and silverwing specifically being known to he one of the easier and more peaceful dragons to deal with.
They had a line about him being restless with his bond or something - it implied death isn't necessary to sever the connection. I guess distance and enough time passed can also do it. But they kept it vague on purpose, which I'm fine with. Dragonbonding is mysterious as hell
Maybe Rhaena didn’t ask first and just gave it a shot when Seasmoke came to visit? And she could have gently tried with both Vermithor and Silverwing. Both of them were said to enjoy human company. She could have visited them and sang to them a dozen times, but nothing ever came of it, and the only reason we hear about her attempt with Seasmoke is because it ended so badly?
Silverwing is a she-dragon and Vermithor’s lover, like they literally love each other, just like their first riders Good Queen Allysane and Old King Jahaerys. Now, the Blacks have Caraxes, Vermithor, Silverwing, Vermax, Moondancer, Syrax and Rhaena’s gonna claim Sheepstealer in the next ep most probably. It’s 8 v/s 2 (Vhagar & Tessarion) basically ‘cause Dreamfyre (Helaena’s dragon) doesn’t fight and Sunfyre is incapacitated. Season 3 is gonna be epic
In the book, Helaena never flew on Dreamfyre agian after her son's murder because she basically went bat-shit crazy. But the show changed that fact & she's "normal", mourning yes, but still relatively in her right mind. In the trailer for episode 8, we get a brief clip of Aemond telling Helaena that he needs her to fly Dreamfyre into war. Whether that really happens is to be seen... 🙅♀
@@nberrypatch02 yeah, I saw it as well. “I need you to fly to battle with Dreamfyre.” Or something like that… but still, I don’t think Helaena’s much of a dragonrider, let alone a fighter. But I’m excited to see what happens next
Rheana isn't going to be bonded to Sheepstealer. Why do people keep spreading misinformation? Story wise, imagine what a boring character arc that would be. Rheana doesn't have dragon and complains throughout all her screen time, then she gets a dragon... . How entertaining.
I’m impatient lol. I want more Rhaenyra ruthlessness. Not because I like her. I don’t but I’m curious to see how far the audience will be on her side. When it all ends.
@@veraanastasiaramirezrozas1633 I have the feeling this will get out as Rhaenyra lured the Dragonseeds (what they're called in the books) to Dragonstone in order to clear the way for her son's claim to the throne.
I still remember when our creepy math teacher wrote a scary question on the class board and just like rheanyra he also said " who among you would be first,, And just like vermithor he passed by every student's chair and I've had a feeling that I am in the hell now that I watched this episode it wasn't hell in fact that was a Dragon pit
I love the way they do the dragon bonding. Facing such a powerful creature strips away everything and leaves just who you really are. There is no hiding who you really are from a creature that can end you with a breath. Any false bravado or even confidence in your skill and station, earned or otherwise, disappears. Hugh and vermithor really showcased it best. Hugh was willing to jump into dragonfire to protect some stranger. Then when vermithor was “playing with his food” so to speak, he showed his courage was not an act or even a true desire and conscious effort to be courageous. It was part of his very nature. I know they haven’t done anything with the fire immunity in this show yet but I have a little headcanon that the reason Hugh was such a great blacksmith is because the fire never burned him and he could handle hotter fires and longer hours to make the steel the best. He was clearly a leader of some sorts for the smiths since he was the one who went to the king on their behalf so they recognized him and I assume it was for his skill.
Aemond now knows the feeling of putting 50 hours into an RPG thinking you can take anything on, only to come across 3 Dark Souls bosses in one place and running while saying “NOOOPE, I’ll come back later, much later.”
I agree with you guys completely. Season 1 was a much more enjoyable season. The most interesting part about season 2 has been team green. Team black has been boring all season and this episode, episode 7 was the first episode that had something interesting involving team black.
You misunderstood. Hugh said his mother told him he was like her brother's boys, Vicarys and Daemon! That would make him their first cousin! 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
I’ve seen people say that the dark liquid that covered Ulf is similar to the fluid that the dragons use to combust the flames, so that may have led Silverwing to not feel he is a threat. Plus she’s chill after all apparently. Still wouldn’t want to face her in person though, she’s still a massive experienced dragon!
I think Silverwing, at least at first, mistook Ulf for a hatchling and was shoving him so that he'd properly move on four limbs instead of two. Then she probably smelled him and knew he was of the blood of her last rider, Queen Alysanne, and decided she'd better take care of him.
Damn vermithor is such a cool name that's literally what I would call my dragon if I had one this series is unbelievable now we just need a video game of one like this
Oscar knows he has Daemon by the balls and he can't do a thing about it. He's far smarter than what he let on the first time we were introduced to him, which if I'm not mistaken, he's smart in the books to. Daemon had to swallow all that pride and keep his mouth shut and play Oscar's game. With the Viserys dream, Daemon is starting to know how the crown crushes you, he just went through it getting the Tully's on his side.
13:00 Jace isn't wrong at all in this point of view... the only reason people accept his, Luke's and Joffrey's legitimacy as pure-blood Targaryens, children of Rhaenyra and Laenor, is the fact that their dragon eggs hatched when they were born and their ties to the dragons gradually increased as they grew to the point where they became their riders. Allowing bastards or people with no connection to the Targaryen blood to claim a dragon basically tells the common people that the Targaryens' connection to dragons is nothing special, just like Cole was very wrong when he displayed Meleys' head around Kingsland, basically showing that dragons are not invincible gods. Both sides of the coin are understandable, both Jace and Rhaenyra, after all if the bastards and commoners can do this, what stops them from using this divine force (the dragons) to face the Targaryens and want to usurp the Iron Throne from them?both concerns are understandable: Rhaenyra wanting to end the war so she can rule in peace and Jace wanting to fight for his mother's legitimacy and his own claim to the Iron Throne but at the same time questioning whether when she is gone, people will accept him as King and not end up suffering what his mother is currently suffering with the usurpation of the greens.
Even if his mother wins the throne. And after she dies , who’s to say nobles wont prefer his brother, Aegon? Once a again conflict between families. Possibly even another war.
Yeah, but on the other hand, the real reason people question their legitimacy is because they don't have silver hair. That's it, hair color. If they had silver hair, pretty much nobody would dare to suggest they are bastards. If they actually were Laenor's offspring but still didn't have silver hair, they'd be in the same situation and the same people would call them bastards for the same reason they do now. Them actually being bastards or not doesn't matter at all. Making Velaryon's black gave the greens an advantage in the show because it seems reasonable for Alicent to take one look at Joffrey and declare him a bastard to Laenor's face. If it was just about hair color it would seem very stupid, but that's what it technically is. (As far as I remember nobody in the show has ever made a comment regarding the children's race and given the source material, I don't expect anyone to) One of the most important things Viserys said was that the truth doesn't matter, only perception. And people have this perception because of 2 reasons, 1. the kids don't have silver hair and 2. They don't want a woman on the throne and agreeing with the greens by claiming that her sons are bastards helps them politically. Without the first reason, the only reason left is self-interest and you always have that with pretty much anything. Having said that, if they don't want Jace because they think he is a bastard, then his half-brother would get the throne if you go by "the order of things". Nothing stops the bastard dragon riders to claim the throne just like nothing stops any random commoner to claim the throne. If a random person can go in, kill everyone, claim the throne and have everyone in the castle serve him, then that person would be King because he conquered the throne. It has always been like that, the difference is that a dragon rider can defend themselves and will have an easier time making alliances to actually stay on the throne once they are there.
Like the Myseria said, Seasmoke was lonely. Laneor's been gone for a minute. He was pissed they tried to force a bond on him. He said since y'all don't know what y'all doing, I'll take care of it. He went and found the willing half-brother of the homie he was missing.
This is such a great episode. Vermithor portrayed as a god in the eyes of the small folk is truly terrifying. I don’t think I’m bold enough to claim a dragon 😳
I love how the show has showed us how much of a risk it is. Even if you have the blood, it still doesn’t guarantee you leaving with a dragon and with your life. The finale better be epic!
6:13 Saw here that this 'Boy', Oscar Lord of the Riverlands had balls the size of a Dragon, at 7:26 you see they are the size of Vhagar. Wow a 'Boy' making Daemon look like a 'Boy' 21:08 When you get fired by a Dragon from service it really burns 23:47 Hugh may not have the blood of Dragon rider but he has the spirit of a Dragon. 28:08 Aemond saw a fight & ran in fear, not sure how Vhagar is going to feel about a rider that is scared. 28:29 Pretty sure Rhaenyra wanted to fight Vhagar here but still got a win. Great episode & both looking forward to the next & not as it will mean a wait until the next season
When the bastards tried to flee, Rhaenyra blocked them with her guards, so she killed them all to get a dragon. It's actually murder because the second they try to escape the deal is off, don't block them from escaping.
Honestly I had felt it really really book accurate that silverwing just accepted Ulf because in the books she was always fond of people like her first rider, and in this ep they really managed to capture that from the book, plus I love how aemond quickly reacted like NOPE TURN IT AROUND V, I could see both of you having a fan animated version of you two claiming Vermithor & silverwing and I'd love it ❤❤❤, plus fact Vermithor & silverwing are mates just like their first riders, king jaehaerys and queen allysane
Vermithor is jaehaerys's dragon, silverwing is queen alyssane's. They are lifelong mates like jaehaerys and silverwing. Silverwing is docile friendly dragon
He broke the hard capsule that goes around the clutch of eggs if you remember back, Damon broke through it with a pick ax, kinda like we break geodes, and the eggs are inside that hard shell
As a person who enjoys the "house" part more than the "dragon" part I had no major issues with the season. Dragons clawing at each other and breathing fire is nice, but it's the conversations and politics and storytelling of a house divided that intrigues me the most.
According to the lore as I recall Hugh's mother Saera Targaryen is sister of Baelon Targaryen, Visery's and Daemon's father. She was "Free Spirited" and King Jaehaerys an the family disowned her, she was not a bastard (given this episodes theme). Vemithor is fierce and needs a rider to match and the pov scene shots where awesome.
Paddy said he wanted to do the crown scene with Matt in the make-up before his death. That was a great choice because it reiterated the toll the crown had taken on him, and he didn't even want it.
It fits, his ownership of the crown and throne literally rotted his body from the inside out until he died a painful death. Just makes that scene hit much harder.
@@OfficialMediaKnights Daemon is George RR Martin, the writers best TARGARYEN character, cause simply he always flip flops on good and bad....equal parts good and bad
Of course Jace is elitist - he's literally a prince in a feudal monarchy, all the characters are super classist by definition. Don't forget these characters live in a strict social and political hierarchy - the position and power of Rhaenyra's family depends on the subjugation and exploitation of the small-folk and low-born.
And dragons in particular are especially supposed to be the ultimate symbol of the elite. Someone like Hugh or Ulf getting a dragon would be the equivalent of a McDonald's employee suddenly getting their hands on a nuke.
I think you're partly right but in my opinion it's more about him and his parentage. All his life, people have been saying that he doesn't have any right of being the heir's heir because he's a bastard. And his only saving grace is the fact that he's Rhaenyra's son and she's been telling him again and again that it doesn't matter because he's her son and a Targaryen. And suddendly she's creating an "army" of bastards and elevating Targaryen bastards. Which he basically is. He's questioning his right and claim over the throne and he's afraid. There's nothing that makes him special anymore. People were right about him in a way. But also yeah if you start giving dragons to lowborn, what used to make dragonriders special disappear. Anyone can ride a dragon, a "god" and be powerful. Maybe even become king if you can control a dragon like Vhagar. The Targaryen lose their power ... and then you find yourself with Robert Baratheon as your king 😂😂😂
in short, hugh is actually viserys and daemon's cousin! in the show at least, they're implying that he's saera targaryen's son. saera was somewhat of a rebel and the daughter of king jaehaerys. jaehaerys banished her to oldtown and she somehow ended up in a pleasure house in lys. jaehaerys is definitely turning in his grave rn knowing his dragon is ridden by his rebel daughter's son😮💨
Saera Targaryen - Daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alyssane - Brother of Prince Baelon and Prince Aemon - Aunt of King Viserys I, Prince Daemon, and Princess Rhaenys - Grandmother of Queen Rhaenyra - and MOTHER of Hugh Hammer 🔥
Y'all the only commentors who noted that Rhanerya turning her back on Vermithor took hella balls. My thoughts exactly, subscribed! Trust level was over 9000 with Vermithor.😂
In episode 6 they have the dragonkeepers helping Ser Steffon by telling him not to show fear & to speak High Valyrian, specifically Lykiri & Rybas (calm & obey) to Seasmoke. In episode 7 the keepers all leave & yet Rhaenerya doesn't bother to teach any of the clueless Dragonseeds one word of the language they'll need to know in order claim a dragon. Seriously? No wonder Vermithor was like "WTF? None of ya'll can talk to me? OK, time to roast some low born bastards for lunch." 🔥
@@rexibhazoboa7097 yes it does and it now messes the lore. That's why GRRM said the show and book are different because they have made a lot fo changes in the show, like Ulf and Addam having no silver hair. Or Corlys saying the Velaryons have no dragonblood though in the book, it clearly stated that there have been intermarriage between the two families for centuries.
The episode literally opens with her meeting a dragonrider who didn't know a word of High Valyrian and yet bonded with a dragon. Pretty clear that's not a requirement
@@Deimos2k5 yeah, that's why the show is different from the books. In the books, drsgons only listen to Valyrian command. In the show, it's not needed.
The Old King Jaehaerys (Vermithor’s rider, seen in s1 ep1) had 13 kids with his sister wife Alysanne (Silverwings rider). Among them Viserys and Daemon’s father Baelon and their mother Alyssa. Hugh’s mother is Saera who is said ran away from her family and worked in the pleasure house, making Hugh, Viserys and Daemon cousins. Ulf’s parentage still remains a mystery.
Fair point on your criticism for this season. I attribute it to the Harrenhal scenes. Daemon’s introspection arc could have been handled in 2 episodes, then move on .
I knew the 2nd dragon had picked her rider really early and so did Vermithor too, did you notice how Vermithor knocked the drunk guy off the side of the stone level they were all standing on with his mouth shut with no flame or teeth showing, Vermithor just gently nudged him off the side because dragons talk to each other and the 2nd dragon told Vermithor not to kill that one as she wanted him as her rider and Vermithor obliged her buddy down below.
Hats off to the sound designers for all the Dragons in this episode. And, of course, Bronze Fury would choose a swordsmith. Are they taking their time or following the book? Personally, I like the build up especially as Game of Thrones ran headfirst towards the end in the last few seasons.
Hugh is probably Viserys and Daemon's cousin. His mother was most likely Saera, Viserys & Daemon's aunt who was disowned by her father because she was "wild". She ended up going to Lys to work in pleasure houses, then Volantis to become a madame.
This episode gave me goosebumps, after goosebumps, after goosebumps! 💪💪 to Hugh 🔥and Ulf! 🔥, that Tarly boy had HUGE balls ⚽🏐🏈 to roast Daemon like that and we love ❤Adam of Hull

the way Aemond tells Vhagar "shit, let's go back" when he sees Rhaenyra with the other three dragons? pure satisfaction, Rhaenyra my Queen, you are the best 🖤🔥
This confirms that Laenor is really gone since seasmoke bonded with someone new. do yall think thats why Rhaena never got to claim him cause Laenor was still alive somewhere in pentos?
Kinda sad he died offscreen!
@@ProperlyGamingmaybe they tried the other two but it failed so they got desperate?
That final shot with that epic music was sooooooo good
Silverwing is a she-dragon and Vermithor’s lover, like they literally love each other, just like their first riders Good Queen Allysane and Old King Jahaerys.
What about seasmoke?
@@rosalocalinda haha, how could I forget the real OG?!! My bad… it’s including Seasmoke that they have 8, the Blacks
It was subtle but it was a darker turn for Rhaenyra where she used divine reasoning to sacrifice people. No one is in control of their destinies.
@@kenyabrunson4985 I find it funny that right after Jace stated his issues with the bastard Dragonseeds, Vermithor mulches most of them lol
Silverwing is said to be the friendliest dragon of all. She was even friendly towards normal people.
Protect her at all costs ❤️
I still remember when our creepy math teacher wrote a scary question on the class board and just like rheanyra he also said " who among you would be first,,
And just like vermithor he passed by every student's chair and I've had a feeling that I am in the hell now that I watched this episode it wasn't hell in fact that was a Dragon pit
Rhaena gets no chill in Westeros, everyone knowing her business as if it’s the hot topic 😭
That last shot of Rhaenyra with the dragons reminds me so much of Daenerys with her 3 dragons
Sooo glad you posted immediately! What an episode. I was thinking of you when I watched ❤
Omg thank you so much for showing up so early, you are so sweet for thinking of us! We hope you enjoy the reaction!!
Mad respect to the dragon 🐉 designers, vfx and sound effect team.
Absolutely! 👏👏👏
Emma D'Arcy has been soooooo good as Rhaenyra! The "Vermithor" in the High Valerian accent is awesome!
Rhaenyra's dragon is absolutely gorgeous!
Syrax be like : YASHH THATS RIGHT!!! BACK OFF OLD GRANNY
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Viserys is still stealing scenes a whole season after his death. What a BOSS!
Rhaenyra literally has 7 dragons on her side, that’s an army!
Syrax, Vermax, Caraxes, Vermithor, Seasmoke, Silverwing and Moondancer.
8, you forgot about Sheepstealer.
Aemond now knows the feeling of putting 50 hours into an RPG thinking you can take anything on, only to come across 3 Dark Souls bosses in one place and running while saying “NOOOPE, I’ll come back later, much later.”
I have to say, I really appreciate your insights. You pay attention to minute details and your comments are super nuanced.
Hugh is not half brother of daemon and viserys but a cousin through one of their aunt(Saera Targarye)
I agree with you guys completely. Season 1 was a much more enjoyable season. The most interesting part about season 2 has been team green. Team black has been boring all season and this episode, episode 7 was the first episode that had something interesting involving team black.
God! i LOVE Vermithor! Now that's a GOOD LOOKING DRAGON RIGHT THERE! Amazing reaction as usual guys.
You misunderstood. Hugh said his mother told him he was like her brother's boys, Vicarys and Daemon! That would make him their first cousin! 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
I can't wait to see Vermithor and Silverwing flying side by side.
Vermithor,the Bronze Fury is like "WHO,THE FCK,IS NEXT??!!!"🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Season 1 covered like 20 years. The whole season was a prologue. THAT was the set up season.
Damn vermithor is such a cool name that's literally what I would call my dragon if I had one this series is unbelievable now we just need a video game of one like this
Love this show so much. Amazing writing and quality every time. Thank you HBO for such a fantastic show
Oscar knows he has Daemon by the balls and he can't do a thing about it.
The idea of dragonseeds was absolutely madnesssss
(As far as I remember nobody in the show has ever made a comment regarding the children's race and given the source material, I don't expect anyone to)
One of the most important things Viserys said was that the truth doesn't matter, only perception.
I feel like beyond the bloodline, dragons kind of recognize a bit of their own temper into their rider candidate
@@OfficialMediaKnightsI think the finale will be amazing!
If someone is desperate enough, why not?
6:13 Saw here that this 'Boy', Oscar Lord of the Riverlands had balls the size of a Dragon, at 7:26 you see they are the size of Vhagar. Wow a 'Boy' making Daemon look like a 'Boy'
21:08 When you get fired by a Dragon from service it really burns 23:47 Hugh may not have the blood of Dragon rider but he has the spirit of a Dragon.
I think you meant Ulf. Silverwing accepted Ulf the White.
@@DragonQueen78 yes Ulf sorry new relevant characters kinda got confused
I loved all of the dragon sounds in this episode. The sound design was fantastic!
Who is you favourite dragon? Right now, mine is Seasmoke who went out and got himself a rider.
There’s sheepstealer, grey ghost, and the cannibal who are still missing
According to the lore as I recall Hugh's mother Saera Targaryen is sister of Baelon Targaryen, Visery's and Daemon's father. She was "Free Spirited" and King Jaehaerys an the family disowned her, she was not a bastard (given this episodes theme). Vemithor is fierce and needs a rider to match and the pov scene shots where awesome.
Paddy said he wanted to do the crown scene with Matt in the make-up before his death. That was a great choice because it reiterated the toll the crown had taken on him, and he didn't even want it.
Hopefully Daemon starts to realize the weight and responsibility that comes with that crown. Perhaps he too realizes he doesn’t want it.
Vermithor and Silverwing look exactly like boss level dragons from Skyrim!
The Targaryen lose their power
... and then you find yourself with Robert Baratheon as your king 😂😂😂
Damn guys you fast af! It's 1am here and was about to sleep but saw you uploaded, let's goo
Thank you for stopping by before you go sleep! ❤️
in short, hugh is actually viserys and daemon's cousin! in the show at least, they're implying that he's saera targaryen's son. saera was somewhat of a rebel and the daughter of king jaehaerys. jaehaerys banished her to oldtown and she somehow ended up in a pleasure house in lys. jaehaerys is definitely turning in his grave rn knowing his dragon is ridden by his rebel daughter's son😮💨
Saera Targaryen
- Daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alyssane
- Brother of Prince Baelon and Prince Aemon
- Aunt of King Viserys I, Prince Daemon, and Princess Rhaenys
- Grandmother of Queen Rhaenyra
- and MOTHER of Hugh Hammer

25:50 Ulf's dragon is Silverwing, a she-dragon
In episode 6 they have the dragonkeepers helping Ser Steffon by telling him not to show fear & to speak High Valyrian, specifically Lykiri & Rybas (calm & obey) to Seasmoke. In episode 7 the keepers all leave & yet Rhaenerya doesn't bother to teach any of the clueless Dragonseeds one word of the language they'll need to know in order claim a dragon. Seriously? No wonder Vermithor was like "WTF? None of ya'll can talk to me? OK, time to roast some low born bastards for lunch." 🔥
Addam, Hugh and Ulf dont speak it. You dont need to know how to speak the language. The show seems to have debunked that false belief multiple times.
So comparing to the books is pointless then. Either enjoy the show for what it is or don't. The book thing is getting old.
Ulf said in episode one that he was brother to Viserys and Daemon, implying his father was Baelon Targaryen. So Ulf would be another cousin.
Aemond fleeing at the end was hilarious. Now his ass don't wanna fight when they got dragons close to Vhagars size💪
Adam practically said:"I have served. I will be of service" 😂😂😂
Hahahahahaha. This is sooooo good!
Pretty sure Silverwing was flying Ulf, not the other way around.
Fair point on your criticism for this season. I attribute it to the Harrenhal scenes. Daemon’s introspection arc could have been handled in 2 episodes, then move on .
I just thought of a funny thing. The ultimate episode with him tripping and who appears?!! The Doctor that looks just like Daemon with a bowtie
