  • Bass Fishing, especially in the summer can be tough. Here are three rigs that I use all summer long to catch them when they won't bite anything else.

      Thanks Frank, It's all about making memories with your kids. They don't care what you float in. My boys love going out in their kayaks as much as bank fishing and fishing in my boat. It don't matter.

    Ok so I was having the worse day fishing, I mean 3 hours in the 107 degree Arizona heat and not one bite. I put down my rod searched UA-cam and came across your video. I was already setup Carolina rig with a shad but I switched up my technique and started dragging it on the bottom really super slow. What the hell man 2nd cast I caught a 3lb talapia! 😂😂😂 Thanks for your advise it definitely works! 👍🏾 I just subscribed to your channel.

I'm so glad he takes him out and is teaching him how to be a great fisherman. Fishing not only feeds you but your soul as well. It is the most relaxing and rewarding sport there is.

    Hi Gene, I don't ever subscribe or comment on peoples UA-cam Video's but I think you are doing so much to the fishing community. There are so many fishermen that hide their techniques or baits and lures. You explain everything down to the line size. It is so awesome to see the passion you have for this sport and more so the enthusiasm you have to teach it to others. I am inspired to fish as much as I can because of your videos. I live in Illinois, Chicago area where the fishing is damn tough. But I still try your techniques. I am always listening to see what your using and how your using it. I would love to see a video on Frogs. I am always hearing how people catch monster bass on Frogs.

    Gene, thank you so much for the advice. I appreciate the time you spend explaining different concepts to guys like me that are new to bass fishing.
    Thanks to you, I am a true believer in the Carolina rig AND when the shad are bustin, I LOVE that lipless crank bait (rattle traps baby!). I never thought I would get bit on a lipless crank, but I took your advice and fished it all day until I got a bite. Now I won't go the lake without one. I am now also a true believer in the miracle of the Wacky Senko too.
    This is my first year targeting bass, and boy it can have its ups and downs for sure, so any tactics I can learn about those tough days are much appreciated. Right now I am in a cold weather slump, and can't figure it out. I will try the drop shot on some 6 lb and see if that does the trick. THANKS AGAIN!

    Gene I noticed the same thing. I switched from straight 10 pound fluorocarbon to 6 pound fluorocarbon leader years ago and Bam fish on in the hot slow summertime days! Summertime I usually fish deep but this works really well for fish that are still up shallower in the staging areas.

    I used to live in Florida, went fishing with my neighbor, we went out on his fishing boat with some of his family, they were experts at fishing, I guess, anyways I had caught some fish earlier and the day and the sun was starting to set, we then chose a spot by a dock, he taught me a trick to know if the fish was biting, put your finger over the string almost pressing against the fishing pole but not touching the pole, we put some shrimp on but after 10 minutes, of casting I got a little pull on the string and pulled back on the rod, that engaged a, what felt like a 15 minute fight with a fish I had to trade off the pole with the guy that brought me fishing, the strongest one there, and we handed it back and forth, this thing was a MONSTER redfish, like 3 feet in length, the reason I go fishing is for the fight, and to have conversations with whoever I’m with, but I moved to Kansas, I have NEVER for 4 years had a fish that gave a fight like that, a few times, with that first yank, they just flew out of the water, hopefully I can get a fight, because bass are big, I guess, thanks for the info, hopefully I’ll get a nice fight

    Just started fishing again after years and years, (mostly salt water...) Went to the lake and realized I needed advice. Your videos are very well done and helpful. I do have some questions about jargon. Things like "sinker" and "Carolina Rig", "shakers" seem kind of self explanatory, but it would probably be a helpful video for a basic fishing lingo video (you may have one...haven't searched yet...) I was also looking at one of the tournament sites and it listed ranking 15:41 or ?? (not that I'm ready for a tournament...)
    Thanks again for your helpful videos. All the best!

    Great videos brotha. Keep me coming! My sons are both older now and we don’t get to fish together as often as we once did when they were younger so enjoy these days sir. Only other thing I’d have to say is we need to get you a Florida Gators hat. I’d say use that Georgia hat as bait but I don’t think the fish would bite. 🤣

      +TarHeelsFan23 xx I have a health issue, so I stay out of the heat. If I can get out during this time of the year, I'll go at night when I can fish relatively comfortably and most of the time there's no traffic on the water. If I get tired, I just anchor and kick back and relax. Makes my trip a lot more enjoyable. You can rest a while and then go back fishing. A little hour nap and your attitude is better, also.

      whee. me too bubba! haven't caught but 4 bass. spent more money and time on gas and walking around than anything lol it could be different if I had a boat and sonar! then I could see what if anything actually in the water, depth, temp all that necessary stuff! hahaha oh well

    • @larryelliot7734
      @larryelliot7734 8 років тому

      Hooper_c4 yes, a boat changes your fishing abilities a bit, but it also becomes a pit to throw money into. There's always something you need to fix or replace and with gas prices you can spend a lot more than you realize. You can pick or choose just about any place you want to go, but I'd make sure you had someone going with you to help split expenses. You generally can count on at least doubling your fuel cost for a weekend, if not more.

    I can cut line with my teeth really well, but I got ridiculously sick one day from some nasty pond water. I was in bed for 3 days straight, my kidneys hurt from severe dehydration, and everything I ate or drank came out as liquid from both ends. As soon as I was able to drag myself to the store I bought some nice line cutters.

    I believe you are the first well known US bass fisherman to say "This is the FG knot, learn it." Aaron Martens talks about it but doesnt use it yet.. There is literally no other leader knot that comes close to the FG(beside the PR knot which is stupid tough to tie without a bobbin).. You WILL break your terminal knot before the FG, it doesnt matter if its an improved clinch, doubled uni or palomar... And it goes through guides like butter... Not only bass angler's but every angler should learn to tie an FG.

    • @beverlyson
      @beverlyson 8 років тому +2

      +Jeremiah Giles did you watch the saltstrong instructional video? It is probably the easiest to follow, no offense to fluke.. It should actually be easier to tie, the larger the leader diameter.

    • @beverlyson
      @beverlyson 8 років тому +3

      +Jeremiah Giles, another thing could be that you doing too many wraps, that is if you are having trouble with it staying tight. You want to make sure the beginning of the Fg is tight. if there are too many wraps it wont.

    title of this video should have been: Tips for kingkong since he hasn't caught a bass in a few months. lol jk. guess what though, I finally caught a bass this past weekend. i was fishing early Saturday morning. when I got to the pond I noticed they were hitting too water so I threw a frog along the grass edges. missed 2 frog bites and I came back later with a weightless texas rig lizard. I casted out at that same spot I missed one of the frog bite and he choked on it. I set the hook and he was on. it was a dink but hey it's better than skunk. I appreciate all that you've done for us Gene.

    Hey I fish for mostly pike and walleye. I know drop shotting,Texas rigging, Carolina rigging, etc. is mostly for bass, but would it work for other fish?

    I've tried these techniques but in south Louisiana the max water depth is 6 feet so we catch them on cranks and spinnerbaits. Nice vid

    Do you use any weight on the line?

    When I use my spinning rod, I'ill fish weightless with a trick worm and that usually works for me. When using my baitcasters, I'll use a Carolina rig and trick worm. I've done pretty good so far with those this year. We'll see how the rest of the Summer goes though.

    The muddy bottom tip was a good one... Not that instinctually people who put the time in don't know it... But I needed to hear it so I can vocalize it to others and to my internal dialogue, especially working rocky bottoms in my waters with all the sediment.

    Do you have a video that goes step by step on how to tie the FG knot? Been using a palomar for everything 'cuz it's so simple and fast to tie while on the water.

    Can you use that same leader on a baitcaster or just a spinning reel?
