Best version of this song I've ever heard other than Whitney! Is he singing in the same key as original?! There's 4 notes he adds to the song that I die for. He does it twice, 0:37 and 2:40. His singing makes me cry. Best male vocalist imo
I'm not at all an expert on music or vocal coaching, but I've seen a lot of vocal coaches reacting to this song, and all of them said it was in the original key. Which makes his cover even more impressive IMO.

Loved the reaction! I was kind of back-to-back watching his videos and his vocal skills are amazing, and by reading the comments I learned that he is actually self-taught and don't actually speaks english but mimics the sounds he hear. Anyway I saw some videos of him covering Mariah Carey for example "I want to know what love is" that is amazing what he does and also some videos of him singing live in the car (apparently he did it because people were constantly saying that he was relying on Auto-tune) and his performance of this very song you reacted in the car and "I want to know what love is" in the car are really a slap on the haters face hahaha.

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I’ve heard tons and tons of people cover this song and they generally fall short due to hitting notes, phrases , but mostly not being able to capture that amazing emotion that is poured into the song. I am hugely sensitive to language and accents. It takes time to hear British English correctly or American English for that matter. If you throw in the vocal shortcuts singers make to hit the notes or make a rhyme…I often just abandon lyrics and listen to the emotion. More singers should train with IPA. It probably doesn’t matter in the long run because so many pop lyrics are pretty nonsensical and few songs are really poetic in any genre. But, if all you have is technique, you have nothing. This young man has so much talent and so much meaning and emotion in his voice that his accent is unimportant. We have the words.

Wow! I've seen maybe a dozen or more of your reactions but this is really outstanding. Thanks for taking so much time with this spectacular vocal from a man whose voice is, IMO, one of the world's best in the category of pop music. His mimicry is phenomenal, and one might fault him on lack of originality, but if you go back to his Portuguese gospel numbers you find he is not essentially a copycat at all, although I understand this (mimicry) is chiefly how he taught himself to sing. Anyway, brava! on the excellent reaction and commentary. My other fave reaction to this is from Ceci Dover and if you like to see great reactions from other singers i would heartily recommend hers.

He always find a way to incorporate a whistle in his covers, also he’s been covering Mariah a lot so you will already expect whistles in some songs like “Emotions”, but there are some covers that you can see how much of a vocal athlete he can be, like the one he recorded in his car of “I want to know what love is” and “Oh Holy night”.

Oh My Freaking Gosh that was Insane. I was holding a pen up near my face when Gabriel hit that whistle the first time and I tossed the pen into the air and said what the hell in Amazement because of how good that was. I was shocked cuz I wasn't expecting it then when he used it again along with how he sang before and after it and how he made it all flow together just floored me. Wow to all that got Elizabeth to check this guy out thank you so much. Thank you Elizabeth for sharing this video with us. I have not wanted to suggest someone because I didn't that you would want to review someone who does covers. But here are some suggestions of people/groups that I think you might enjoy. Violet Orlandi she is Brazilian but in her school years she went to a school in London to really learn how to sing really really good. Then there is Halocene, First to Eleven, and Lauren Babic. I suggest Kansas "Journey from Mariabronn". Its 7+ minutes long and has those dated synth sounds, but its composition is great and Steve Walsh ... outstanding & this showcases what he can do, especially the ending. OMG

His singing ability transcends and rises above language difficulties. In rating his performances, I rate his diction a two (2.)
I call GH the "Brazilian Whitney Houston"! His whistle range is incredible! Like you say it isn't just how he accesses it but the vibrato & control. Not to mention the falsetto.
