At this point, Tyler is a guy you can count on for a good album end to end. The success is deserved. I actually think he's more fashionable than Kanye too.
kanye dresses more chill than tyler other than the platinum grill. i like tyler’s fits way more but if he wasn’t also handsome there is zero way he could pull that shit off lmao
Tyler’s fashion is more delicate and well thought out. Kanye just wears weird shit even if it looks like dogshit just to seem subversive and “ahead of the times” in a really pretentious, annoying way. Sort of the same approach they respectively took to their recent albums too.
Tyler's numbers these days are a living proof that rappers should never be ashamed of being nerds about their craft and taking themselves seriously, i see many artists in hiphop right now not being true to their core ideals when it comes to the artistic output and while Tyler has probably earned a very favorable position where he is in charge of his brand, many rappers regardless of their condition should try to follow his steps, we really need more guys geeking about chords, flows, samples or even just delving into production
No goofy they shouldnt look at yeat almost killing his career wit 2093💀 tylerthemissinglink is jus DEI and diddy n with the elections coming up it inflated those political points not to mention he's been the defacto for tiktok intellectual music😂✌️
It’s so great that someone who was passed off as a joke for so long has been able to have the opportunity to be considered “One of the best,”. Some people need second chances.
Great point! His earlier works were sort of a ragebait, but he already had a concept. He just outgrew it to become a ‘real’ artist. He really outgrew himself artisticly and it would be silly to have them pull his recent work down. He did everything by himself and that is very commendable, he started to take music seriously and showed real talent.
20:30 I think part of what creates Tyler’s mass appeal is how we in Gen Z have essentially grown up with him. When i was a kid i was watching this mf on Loiter Squad, listening to MF DOOM, Odd Future the Internet. He’s an artist that my fellow zoomers watched grow and grew with, basically the Zoomer icon lmao

For the comments mentioning Danny Brown or JPEGMAFIA. As good as they are, they don't have the success close to the Big 3 or Tyler. They're very underground at the moment.
Yeah that is more like a rap nerd Big 3 conversation. Not nearly the same spotlight when looking at the industry. That said, both have solid discographies over several years.
Man 2011 and 2012 were an unmatched time. To be a tyler fan was wild. Pink OFWGKTA shirts lol donut shirts and now just seeing him grow through flower boy till now is just so insane man now im 26 and to grow up as his music matures has just been the best.
I’m 40 now I graduated from uni in 2009 I wasn’t a fan of Tyler’s until wolf but I was aware of him I just didn’t like the dark Eminem vibes (coz I never liked em) but I loved Earl and Frank and Tyler was a real curiosity to me they reminded me of wu-tang which I grew up with as an early teen. (Forever was one of the first hip hop records I owned) wolf reminded me so much of the first time I heard MF DOOM cherry bomb weirded me out but had its moments and made me go back and find positives in his previous work. Then flowerboy had me hooked for two years igor two years cmiygl two fucking years!?! The depth the swerves he’s made as an artist watching him grow exponentially as an artist with every project. When I first heard him he was a kid to me but now our age gap isn’t that far I remember hitting thirty and feeling left behind because my friends all got married and had kids and I chose to be an artist that gives himself to the craft. Dude even wore the same hat as me during cmiygl trapper hat at the beach has always been my vibe 😅
My cousin used to love Tyler even got the of tatted on him but doesn’t like him now and wants to get the tat off 😂 I think he stopped liking him after he dropped Igor just didn’t like the singing stuff I guess.
The "Big 3" is something we've been calling Drake, Kendrick, J. Cole since the 2010s. It is based on their success back then, not now. The Big 3 really shaped that era. Their accomplishments could never be erased. It is a historical name at this point, similar to how you would call Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray, Tommy Hearns, and Roberto Duran the "4 Kings of Boxing" It is a historical title, not a current status. They are referred to that today even though they have since all been defeated multiple times, lost belts, retired etc. If Kendrick, Cole, and Drake all fell off tomorrow, they would still be known as the "Big 3" To take that away from any of them would be revisionist history. I love Tyler. He is my favorite rapper out right now. I loved him since Bastard, but we have to come up with a new name for him or anyone else that pops off in this new decade.
@@selfishbeats if nobody cared then people wouldn’t be butthurt trying to associate their favourite rapper to the moniker lmao. Also goodluck challenging the narrative when everyone knows that title is associated with Drake, Cole and Kendrick
I did a deep dive about this on my channel the other week. Been following you and Justin for a while now - so happy you guys linked up for this conversation
Where's Dragon Ball, the "intelligent and avid manga readers" at Facebook say Dragon Ball is in the big 3 (they told me "trust me bro") Edit: I GET IT OKAY, I WAS BEING SARCASTIC
My answer to the question at 21:30 mark about how does Tyler, the Creator stick out for large audience, is summed up by Anthony quite a bit when explaining the question. Tyler's appeal is the idea that Tyler does not fit a mold and in today's internet culture is surrounded by trends and culture vultures. People who drive their own innovations is admired by passionate listeners, and that's why him and Kendrick are so beloved for the culture. Unlike Drake who rides the waves of trends and just looks bland overall which has shown in his past few albums. The levels of experimental music and risk taking they are willing to take at their peaks in popularity is what makes them shine.
This is also why I like jpeg mafia so much, I see so much similarity between him and Tyler even when they are on different sides of the musical spectrum
I mean then I ask where Cole fits into this because a lot of people are saying he's the one that's gotta go when he's far closer to Kendrick than he is to Drake as far as albums and raps are concerned
Jcole was never really a big3 if we’re being honest lol rap skill wise i guess he is but he is no where near mainstream success as drake and kendrick like not even close AT all
@@ThevelvetundergroundnNicoyeah but we all know big three isn’t just mainstream success. Out of drake, Kendrick, and j Cole, j Cole is the best lyricist bar for bar. There are very few lyricist that are still in their prime like Cole is that are also well known to the public. That’s why j Cole is in the big three
litterally. people simultaneously say theres no big 3 and then switch rappers out of it like these are official placements. its ironic how the big 3 has been constantly invalidated since the beef, and yet we are just now attempting to replace them in 2024. im okay with moving on from this era and finding a new big 3, but to just shift it around slightly after almost a decade feels like that gives it more value instead of less overall.
This is the same thing that happened with the Big 3 of manga. There is history behind the term in both cases but people don't take it into account and just go and rewrite history
It’s so annoying. I don’t understand how people don’t realise that that title represents a POINT IN TIME. Regardless of how you feel about certain artists there, they aren’t interchangeable
For the One Piece verse, yes. He’s probably gonna have a big impact soon with his updated bounty. But if you meant big 3 wise, One Piece is never ruled out that argument.
More Fantano x TCM link ups please and thank you. One of the best things to come out of 2024 is all my favorite music commentators and analysts are linking up and giving me hours upon hours of content to geek out about.
One thing tangential to the ian thing is how tyler has been expressing how much he cares about hip-hop and the art behind it. It almost feels that the archetype of the ideal rapper these days is the guy who shows up to a studio inebriated and says whatever comes to mind and its fire. Everyone seems to want to have their lil wayne moment, so its nice to see the opposite, someone willing to be like "i care about this shit, this shit is hard and its important
The fact that Tyler's pen got sharper reflects this. He went out of his way to make it clear he wanted to make a "RAP" album with CMIYGL and not be pigeonholed into the artsy goofball lane. The kid who made Goblin got a Gangsta Grillz project about vacationing and it rocked
Couldn't agree with these takes more. I have been Tyler/OF fan since the conception, I still remember downloading bastard off of Tumblr back when Lucas vercetti and Eddie were members. Tyler's evolution has been crazy. I have had to defend this man so many times especially during the cherry bomb era. Just remember kids my age, when we were bumping this stuff it was considered underground/cringy/shock jock. Now Tyler has Grammys, frank has Grammys, taco is successful, Lionel is successful, earl is a respected poet and underground artist. Your crews dream can come true.
I feel like if Tyler said "I'm the best ever", that would be less bold statement than "biggest out the city after Kenny that's a fact". Specific enough to be making an actual claim.
There are 6 big players in hip-hop today that came up in the early 2010s; Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Future, Travis Scott, and Tyler the Creator. Which order they are in or which 3 are the “big 3” is all debatable but they all are in the conversation at the very least.
His career is kind of amazing to look back at. I know I'm always going to give him "extra" credit because of the sheer ambition in so much of what he does, and how much he clearly cares about the craft of making music, about knowing musical history, about searching far and wide for sounds and influences. I'm always sympathetic to people who take big swings, even when they whiff. But Tyler's ability to take big swings and just smash it consistently is really amazing.
I would say kendrick tyler and put travis there instead of drake. he has the numbers and influence and makes way better music than drake. even though I think the gap between travis and the other 2 is quite significant he's a better fit than both drake and j cole.
I can understand leaving Kanye out of discussion now after JIK and Vultures, but saying Kanye wasnt in the Big 3 in the 2010s is ridiculous and rewriting history
He wasn't. 💀 Kanye dropped classics in the 2010s, but the Big 3 is for rappers who ORIGINATED and CAME UP in the 2010s. Kanye been dropping classics since the 2000s, probably before you were born. The 2010s-2020s is NOT Kanye's era/peak of popularity. I will say he's the best producer out of the 2010s though, and he ain't ever drop a miss. Just straight CLASSICS. MBDTF, Watch The Throne, The Life of Pablo, Kids See Ghosts, Yeezus, and Ye. Man was not missing, it all went downhill the moment Vultures came...
I’m a big J Cole fan. And I would say he doesn’t deserve ALL of this disrespect. But he does deserve some criticism for the way he’s handled things imo.

I just wanna say, this video was quite enjoying to watch and listen to from start to finish and was just very interesting to learn a lot about hip hop as someone who is relatively new to the genre but is a huge Tyler fan. Good job, Anthony and Justin!
I feel big 3 is now a redundant concept. Unless Drake is able to prove he still has that market power that he consistently did previously; only Kendrick is still up there. J Cole though skilled will probably never be able to say that again, not because he bowed out but because he seemed to need some sort of reassurance with how Port Antonia has played out. Too much insecurity for someone claiming to be the best.
Drake only has mass appeal these days, most of his albums are lacklustre at best. Only reason he is still put in the big 3 is just because he is so popular
I feel Tyler is in his own lane like Kanye. He doesn’t have to be competing with Cole drake or Kenny cause because he’s developed so much of an audience and appeal that it naturally competes and can be bigger than the bigger 3
Tyler the creator does not have a fan base that could supersede the big 3 convo and Kanye in his prime was way bigger audience as well. Yall throw Kanye’s name in anytime an unconventional rapper gets popular.
@patrick05Morgan Tyler has more monthly listeners than J Cole. He has a clothing brand, music festival and his albums have gone multi platinum, making the same amount of sales as Kanye’s. I bring up Kanye because like Kanye he paved his own lane and gone on to influence so many people. Tyler has been one of the biggest Alt. Hip-Hop acts of the past decade and if you don’t believe that then you’re not paying attention.
disagree. hip hop can be narrowed down to who is important right now without worrying about what lanes they’re in. i feel like people want to disregard tyler because he comes off a certain way and i can’t get behind putting his cultural differences in front of his work as a way to keep him out of convo. his refusal to leave the mainstream and criticize it puts him a cut above others if anything
Tyler and OF got me back into hip hop after that boring era of crunk and auto crooners. He's always been in my top 3 since then. Justin is the man! It's all happening ❤
I feel this fr. God I remember what it felt like when Yonkers dropped. It felt like such a breath of fresh air, or rather maybe a big cloud of cigarette smoke after too much manufactured recycled hospital air or smth bc it was so gritty and jarring and DIFFERENT. It slapped the game awake and was such a fucking moment and I'm so glad I got to live through that firsthand. He's done nothing but grow exponentially since, with each successive album drop. He doesn't just adapt the way Drake does; he innovates. I'm a shameless glazer for Tyler til death tho
@@dangerxbadger2300I couldn't have said it better. That's when I first heard him and I would show all my friends how dynamic OF was because it felt kinda punk and we all drifted off towards bands instead of hip hop. A fresh perspective is all it took for me to love hip hop again.
I guess that's a generational thing? Like the original big 3 all came up early 2010s, whereas Kanye had already been making huge waves for a decade by then
I disagree, kanye isnt in the convo anymore because of his music hasnt been big and influential like that in a long time, his golden era came and went, whereas tyler's moment is now, he is at his peak
@ Kanye was never in the in the convo and is hardly ever put in the “Top…” hip hop/mc lists. Tyler and Ye happen to rap, but they’re more all round artists rather than just hiphop. Tyler will never be “big 3”, because he’s in a different lane even though I believe his discography is better than Drake and cole
@@Bobsam-m1pthis right here is what ppl will forever refuse to agree with. Drake is the reason why this convo is even considered cos of the non full rap albums he has. Tyler isn’t on the tier of Cole or Kendrick as a rapper (not artist) As an artist sure he’s great. As a rapper ppl need to chill.
I think the 115k opening for might Delete later might have to do with the apology killing momentum for the album almost immediately but idk, to know for sure I’d have to look at any data there might be. It also could have been lack of interest for sure.
It’s also not an album. I know they don’t care just cos it’s on streaming platforms. Anyone who’s listened to a Cole album knows that’s a mixtape and not an album. It was also released as a mixtape. It’s beginning to sound like Justin has an agenda on Cole to me. I really can’t believe he of all ppl don’t know the difference between an album and a mixtape

I like listening to this rhetoric at 31:11 because as a long time listener of Tyler, He's always been pushing the "Just be yourself" motto. And honestly speaking, he;s always possessed a lot of the qualities discussed. He's always been about fashion, he's always made designs, he's always been exceptional at beat making, etc. I think maybe the lyrics from that era turned people off from actually seeing what he was saying and doing but me and many other long time fans never were surprised to see Tyler throw a festival, build clothing stores, make a tv show. All of what he has done has always been on brand and he's been very open about wanting to do these things since his first few tapes.
The thing is, drake isn't in the big 3 based on his talents, he's there based on his mass appeal and sustained popularity. Ideally the big 3 has something from everyone, and at the moment (to me) it's: Drake- Dominates charts and mainstream music spheres Kendrick- The goat of concious hip hop, lyricism and story telling. Truly a once in a lifetime artist. Tyler- The whole package. amazing producer, creative director, designer, personality, and a pretty decent rapper/story teller to boot. Not to mention LGBT representation in hip hop is pretty huge and not something we see from many people in the industry.
@@hugo-ig7kl I dont think you have heard drakes music if you just think he is a hitmaker and nothing else. Drake is the most versatile out of tyler and kendrick (artist wise), he is also the only one of them who can sing, and I'd even argue bar for bar drake is historically better than both of them too when it comes to punchlines and slick raps (Kendrick is more of a storyteller than a bar for bar artist, and drake was also lil wayne's protege so it's not surprising). People who claim drake is only big 3 because of popularity have not heard his music and in that same lane J cole wouldn't even be near the big 3 because he is not bigger than someone like kanye west even in the 2010's sales wise.
Even in 2011 I instantly recognized Tyler as a smart, talented, art student ass kid. He was rapping about being on honor roll. The rape and stuff was just shock factor, as any art student ass kid is want to try out. Some of y’all never knew art student ass kids in school and it shows. Kendrick even mentioned him alongside Drake and J. Cole in the “Control” verse. I’m just surprised it’s taken people till now to start recognizing Tyler’s importance and individuality. He’s been that guy since day 1. As for J. Cole, I swear the song about losing his virginity and “Get Off My Dick” are the only 2 songs I’ve really remember from him. Tyler’s got AMAZING presence on the mic, a unique voice, different tonalities, theatricality, etc. J. Cole just has normal ass rapper voice. But having an iconic voice like Tyler's is just a natural born gift. Talent and hard work can’t even give you that. Tyler is that dude, and even beats Kendrick in several areas of artistic comparison. End rant.
So does Tupac and Jay z. They have the normal rap voice but no one questions it. Tyler is more artistic than cole it happens, and so is kendrick, kanye, andre 3000. Cole's problem is that he is not very expressly artistic and bold ( with the arrogance)
I’m 24, love all the new material and faces tyler has presented in more recent time but he’s been in the big 3 since Wolf. anyone that’s from southern california knows the type of influence he’s had since day 1, had everyone wanting to wear supreme 5 panels and vans.
I would love to see these two talking more often. Great points, great commentators in their own right (anthony has had his slipups recently, namely the halsey video) and they're kind of titans of music commentary. That said, if every video was like this it would be a bit of an echo chamber lmao.
If anyone should get kicked off the big 3, it’s Drake not J Cole. Drake hasn’t been important for the culture in a decade, J Cole remains a significant figure whether you like him or not.
"Drake hasnt been important for the culture in a decade", are you going to forget when he had 2018 on lock. He's birthed so many careers with his features, most notably Lil Baby in recent times. Kendrick was irrelevant since 2017, it was the Drake beef that sparked life back into his career so bare this in mind when youre talking about whos important for the culture. Kendricks diss tracks got bigger numbers and were more talked about than the entire Mr Morale album. We all know who he has to thank for that.
ain’t nobody putting tyler in the big 3. the big 3 isn’t called that because of the reasons you have listed. you can put him in your big 3 in your household if you want. but the coined phrase is forever cemented. it will always be cole, dot & drake.
Really good convo I definitely think Tyler has earned being in that convo after the fumble Cole had but also cause Tyler has just been a constant growth he’s just killing it in every way
No it’s not big 3 is a gold , silver and bronze type thing. They’re not the sannin or 7 deadly sins. They’re not a group. Nobody owns big 3 it’s top 3 with a few qualification being a complete artist
As a Tyler fan since 2012 is great to see fantanos opinion change. As a high school kid, all of Tyler's dark rebellious music resonated with me. Now that I'm pushing 30 it's cool to see how Tyler's music has matured with me and now I don't fw his older stuff. If I'm feeling a little rambunctious, I'll throw on some troncat but I get the criticisms he had when he reviewed his older work. I still think his old work has a lot of merit in the grand scheme of his discography as it shows growth and a genuine love of creating music. Will be cool to see how his music evolves as he gets older.
This so stupid. Love tyler but come on. “Cole is on the downturn” fantano literally ranked off season as his best album. Tyler and cole both dropped in 2021 and cole practically doubled tylers first week sales. Cole has being doing this since 2010 when tyler was a wannabe eminem still.
They’re trying to rewrite history without a pen. Hearing them rate might delete later as an album is also funny. Like we all don’t know that’s a mixtape.
Real talk: did the idea of a “big 3” in hip hop exist before J Cole dropped his bar in FPS? Like…I’ve been a life long hip hop listener and I’ve never heard that term used.
i feel like it’s just the fact that he makes amazing music and people have finally caught on. no gimmicks, no drama, no smoke and mirrors. people have gotten so used to it. also, he doesn’t make his core fans waiting with the promise of a new album.
I feel like I'm a bit outside of the conversation being mostly a metal/rock listener, but I am a fan of Tyler and Kendrick. I'm not really a fan or Drake but I've heard some of his music and I don't really think of Drake in the same way. Drake is a pop singer. Why not Tyler, Kendrick, and Cole?
Exactly. You got it right. Drake is in the Kanye, Travis Scott - Lane. Pop music with rap. But Tyler isn't top 3 either. Sales is one thing. But Tyler doesn't have the cultural impact that Kendrick or Future or J Cole have.
If JID has another hit albums I would def agree but rn he doesn’t have a large enough discography to go off of. Def one of the best rappers in the game rn and he’s just getting started.
Kendrick is so clear. The only reason for any “big 3” conversations before was because J. Cole was genuinely up there in terms of rapping ability & Drake was the most famous & successful in terms of numbers/popularity. Tyler is nowhere near Kdot, however I would say he is a better artist than both of the other 2 in terms of the full package he delivers.
you know chromakopia didn't absolutely kill it for me musically but when i compare it to everything else... it shits on absolutely everyone and it's not even close. and i still appreciate the body of work. i appreciate the art and i will listen to it because i see it and i feel it. there's a real story there and it's told really well. tyler the creator has completely mastered artistry.
First listened to Yonkers when it came out, didn't like much of Tyler's stuff except for IFHY and ended up being an Earl Fan for Doris and I Hate Sh*t. Flower Boy was an unfathomably powerful switch up and Tyler's been going crazy ever since. Potato Salad is probably one of my favorite rando singles and every album since has been unbelievably great.
If J. Cole was to put out a proper studio album and market it, he would still be able to sell 400-500k units easily. Taking him out of the big 3 is laughable. End of the day: Drake, Kendrick and Cole are still the 3 biggest rappers out. Tyler barely gets played outside or in the club and he has very few hits for real. Travis is more relevant than him and sells more units too. Tyler is #5 at best.
How does Tyler no get played outside he just did 300k first week the statement doesn’t make sense at all. He dont make club music but what the fuck that gotta do with being in the big 3. People consume music differently but the point is are people consuming it and how many people and how many new people
I think as an artist, it just makes me happy to listen to music that feels so authentic. I think the personality of his music changes with time because it's HIS personality. Whether that expresses itself as a character like Igor, or series of stories like Chromakopia, or just themed abstract songs like Flower Boy, it never feels like he's doing anything for the sake of mass appeal. It can almost make me frustrated as an artist to hear someone so consistently capable of putting themselves into their art with such creativity and consistency.
With the state of entertainment period we as consumers don’t receive enough consistency whether it’s movies, games and music. It’s great that when we hear a Tyler project is coming we can be excited for a good album.
I think the problem with this conversation is that Tyler's music isn't limited to just rap, and he doesn't want to just be a rapper either at this point in this career. I think in terms of the quality of the music, he absolutely washes Cole completely, but some lyrical miracle fan might prefer Cole because he is a more traditional rapper.
bro what ☠️. drake, kdot, and tyler span DECADES and grammys, travvy patty isn’t as creative as the team surrounding the or artist themselves. everyone is open to their opinions tho. all love
I think instead of people talking about The Big Three, it should be seen more like ‘who is the figurehead for each section of hip-hop?’ No set number, but the most talented, influential and charismatic person within that sub-genre. That would allow all Kendrick, Drake, Tyler, Cole to all have a place at the top, being the leaders of that sound or type of music. Plus you could throw in people like Future or Travis for those types of rap styles and newer sounds. I think that just makes more sense, so ppl stop comparing people whose music differ alot, but still having that competitive drive for each artist to remain alongside the rest
At this point, Tyler is a guy you can count on for a good album end to end. The success is deserved. I actually think he's more fashionable than Kanye too.
But he isn’t as fasc-ionable as Kanye.
kanye dresses more chill than tyler other than the platinum grill. i like tyler’s fits way more but if he wasn’t also handsome there is zero way he could pull that shit off lmao

I remember paying like 20$ for a single pair of odd future socks in 2012 😅 OF had a stranglehold on skate culture at the time
My cousin used to love Tyler even got the of tatted on him but doesn’t like him now and wants to get the tat off 😂 I think he stopped liking him after he dropped Igor just didn’t like the singing stuff I guess.
Honestly it was really cool lol. I was really into odd future as a whole. They were just exciting and colorful. Seeing that happen in hip hop was sick
The "Big 3" is something we've been calling Drake, Kendrick, J. Cole since the 2010s.
It is based on their success back then, not now.
The Big 3 really shaped that era. Their accomplishments could never be erased.
It is a historical name at this point, similar to how you would call Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray, Tommy Hearns, and Roberto Duran the "4 Kings of Boxing"
It is a historical title, not a current status. They are referred to that today even though they have since all been defeated multiple times, lost belts, retired etc.
If Kendrick, Cole, and Drake all fell off tomorrow, they would still be known as the "Big 3"
To take that away from any of them would be revisionist history.
I love Tyler. He is my favorite rapper out right now. I loved him since Bastard, but we have to come up with a new name for him or anyone else that pops off in this new decade.

@@evanfox4401 production wise yes but tyler has so much more to say than jpegmafia lyrically imo
I mean then I ask where Cole fits into this because a lot of people are saying he's the one that's gotta go when he's far closer to Kendrick than he is to Drake as far as albums and raps are concerned

people dont realize the origin of big 3 and just start to add their fav rapper on it
litterally. people simultaneously say theres no big 3 and then switch rappers out of it like these are official placements. its ironic how the big 3 has been constantly invalidated since the beef, and yet we are just now attempting to replace them in 2024.
im okay with moving on from this era and finding a new big 3, but to just shift it around slightly after almost a decade feels like that gives it more value instead of less overall.
This is the same thing that happened with the Big 3 of manga. There is history behind the term in both cases but people don't take it into account and just go and rewrite history

@@PrederickI completely agree and this album just adds to everything you said about his ambition and his ability to hit it out of the park every time.
I would say kendrick tyler and put travis there instead of drake. he has the numbers and influence and makes way better music than drake. even though I think the gap between travis and the other 2 is quite significant he's a better fit than both drake and j cole.
J cole does not belong in this list you may as well put playboi carti or denzel instead of him
J cole only had hype like that in 2014

Kanye dropped classics in the 2010s, but the Big 3 is for rappers who ORIGINATED and CAME UP in the 2010s.
Kanye is always above, he is in his own lane

i do to, tho its not about whos good its about who successful and influential
you cant say that when drake outstreams and outsells EVERYONE BY A DISTANCE
Y'all are trolling at this point. Tyler being bigger than the big 3? Numbers don't lie. All 3 of them are insanely more popular than him
@patrick05Morgan Tyler has more monthly listeners than J Cole.
@@vileink4733 and I didn’t say he’s bigger than all of them, I said CAN be bigger.
disagree. hip hop can be narrowed down to who is important right now without worrying about what lanes they’re in. i feel like people want to disregard tyler because he comes off a certain way and i can’t get behind putting his cultural differences in front of his work as a way to keep him out of convo. his refusal to leave the mainstream and criticize it puts him a cut above others if anything

@@dangerxbadger2300I couldn't have said it better. That's when I first heard him and I would show all my friends how dynamic OF was because it felt kinda punk and we all drifted off towards bands instead of hip hop. A fresh perspective is all it took for me to love hip hop again.

Tyler isn't in the Big 3 convo the same way that Kanye has never been. Different lane
Lol, have fun throwing your lot in with Drake bro.
@@markrussell1606 Tyler The Creator is an artist indie hipsters pretend to like to feel unique
Tyler, Kendrick and JID.
Been waiting for this discussion to finally happen, man.
Ideally the big 3 has something from everyone, and at the moment (to me) it's:
Drake-
Dominates charts and mainstream music spheres
Kendrick-
The goat of concious hip hop, lyricism and story telling. Truly a once in a lifetime artist.
Tyler-
The whole package. amazing producer, creative director, designer, personality, and a pretty decent rapper/story teller to boot. Not to mention LGBT representation in hip hop is pretty huge and not something we see from many people in the industry.
Come on... It's takes talent to dominate charts the length of time Drake has. He might be a corny, goofball, but his talent can't be denied.
@mradhurley I think he's talented. He's a hitmaker, that is a talent. I just think tyler and kendrick are better in their fields
😂feel you bro

I would love to see these two talking more often. Great points, great commentators in their own right (anthony has had his slipups recently, namely the halsey video) and they're kind of titans of music commentary. That said, if every video was like this it would be a bit of an echo chamber lmao.
Really enjoyed this conversation. You both had a great vibe
@@MR12AMAZINGyea, Kendrick himself 😂
I'd argue for hip hop right now it's really just tyler and kendrick like tyler said.

Cole was genuinely up there in terms of rapping ability & Drake was the most famous & successful in terms of numbers/popularity. Tyler is nowhere near Kdot, however I would say he is a better artist than both of the other 2 in terms of the full package he delivers.
more of these convo's man really enjoyed Justins perspective
12:44 Anthony waiting for his tern to speak like a respectable fella
One of the few
16:12 I will say that while J Cole has better bars, Tyler is way more clear in his messaging. IMO
no hes not maybe in 2024 but j cole is always straightforward
Yay!! A Fantano & Justin crossover!!!!!
Edit: Also can confirm, yes, Tyler has had white kids on lock for a decade (37:39)
you know chromakopia didn't absolutely kill it for me musically but when i compare it to everything else... it shits on absolutely everyone and it's not even close. and i still appreciate the body of work. i appreciate the art and i will listen to it because i see it and i feel it. there's a real story there and it's told really well. tyler the creator has completely mastered artistry.
YOU HID JUSTIN HUNTE FROM THE THUMBNAIL?????? ITS ALL HAPPENING BAYBEEE
Igor is a goated album. everyone should like that album, its for everyone
Something shifted with my music taste with Igor tbh it's so good. Goated

J cole only hit 400k once. Can you name a single song on 4 your eyez only (the album that hit 400k) that is being played in a club?
How does Tyler no get played outside he just did 300k first week the statement doesn’t make sense at all. He dont make club music but what the fuck that gotta do with being in the big 3. People consume music differently but the point is are people consuming it and how many people and how many new people
@@strongbone9471 Why tf would his most conscious album have a club song? 2014FHD, KOD and off season have those songs
@A.H.goose1 Reread the comment.
People forget that Might Delete Later is a mixtape full of leftovers.
The he shouldn't have put it out. It was dumpster.
@@Kyoko_ I enjoyed it
@@Kyoko_ Tyler isn’t sniffing a big 3 in any era . He wishes he could rap like J. Cole.😂
@@Kyoko_ untitled unmastered was ass
@@jonahvanvoorhis7167 J. Cole is a little clown with way more misses than hits lol
I think this is why Anthony said "hip hop artist" and not "rapper"
been saying this for years, j cole better than drake tho
2:43 For me personally, the big 3 consists of Kdot, tyler, and trav instead of drake. Drake fell off imo
bro what ☠️. drake, kdot, and tyler span DECADES and grammys, travvy patty isn’t as creative as the team surrounding the or artist themselves. everyone is open to their opinions tho. all love
This is literally just honey moon phase
This collab was inevitable. I'm a huge fan of both. 9 second applause for Justin Hunte! 👏🏼 🙌🏼
