In some ways it's a bit of perfect symmetry given that while Marquez was in Moto2 there was a rule in place saying a rookie rider couldn't race in MotoGP with a factory team. At the time Marquez was linked with a move to Gresini Honda. In the end the rule was changed specially for Marquez so he could race for Repsol Honda but it's kind of ironic he's finally ended up at Gresini.
I think Marc is very desperate seeing how quick Ducati is. Back to 2019, he was the reason why Honda got their development correctly and better but he knew that one day Ducati would chase his development sooner or later. Not just them but the other factory-backed teams also. And yet, he was right. Honda collapsed just like when Rossi moved to Yamaha, as they lost their icon for once more.
Lmao, keep dreaming boy. He's not going to equal let alone Rossi's record anytime soon, not even with a satellite Ducati and with Bagnaia and Martín in the form of their lives.
It's hard to know how good Marc is right now, the Honda was that bad of a bike. But while scoring average results compared to the competition, he did pretty much run circles around the other Honda riders in the last few races showing signs that he still might have it. It will be interesting to see what he can do on a Ducati. Especially also since in the last few years MotoGP bikes have evolved a lot with aero and devices which shifted a lot of the performance impact toward the bike and away from the rider, meaning rider skill can make less of a difference now compared to before.

Motorcycle sales globally, save south east Asia are falling dramatically. Like 90 degrees down type. There’s no market or money in it anymore so it’s tough to justify for Honda to spend money in the program. If it wasn’t for VW saving Ducati, they wouldn’t even be in MotoGP right now.

No doubt Marquez will do better on a Ducati than Honda at the moment. But it's not a clear cut thing, it's dependent on riding style. Didn't hear any of these 'experts' mention anything about riding technique and chemistry with the bike and I don't even follow MotoGP that closely. Rossi went to Ducati and failed miserably trying to replicate what Casey Stoner had done there. I rate Marquez better than Rossi however and I think he will adapt well assuming injuries won't get in the way.
This move is incomparable to Rossi's; Rossi moved when Honda was on the top to Yamaha that barely finished in the podium in 03, while Marc will move from the absolute slowest bike on the grid to the more competitive team-bike combination. This move is more comparable to Rossi's comeback to Yamaha in 13; he rejected the lucrative extension deal from Ducati to become the arguably 2nd factory Yamaha rider behind Lorenzo in order to save his career and legacy.
This spices up next season for sure! Has MM still got it? I've wanted MM to change bikes for years - well before 2020, just to mix it up a bit a stop seeing a Repsol Honda winning. Obviously a Repsol Honda winning in recent years has been a rare sight and partly started because of Marc's injuries in 2020 (which is not what anyone wanted to see). Always assumed he'd move to KTM if and when the time came, maybe he still will, but regardless - next season really could have a new contender if Marc still has the ability.
bike development speed isn't anything like F1 so a year old bike satellite or not isn't actually that big of a deal. Satellite teams have factory staff in them anyway, at least Ducati teams do. And I wouldn't be surprised if Marc got a little bit of help considering he's Marc. I'm sure Marc is going to go very well on the Ducati. It's sad to see the famous Repsol Honda fall on it's face, but every manufacturer and team will go through their respective phases of high and lows.
1) Honda Had a bike anyone could ride for a while due to actually having racers that can develop a bike. 2) After Honda got Marc, they slowly stopped listening to anyone else and focused on making a bike only Marc could ride. 3) The modern honda ended the career of Dani and Jorge two undeniably great riders the smoothest guys to ever grace the grid. 4) Dani's performance and development of the KTM is proof of of his talent that honda let languish due to arrogance. 5) Rins bailed one year in on the Honda, because they treated Rins with little respect even after being the only rider to win on that bike this year. 6) Mir isn't going to do anything on the Honda, hell the front end feel of the suzuki had him all at sea the last few years how he thought the honda was better is beyond me. He'll jump if given the chance. Now Honda has a bike not even Marc can ride because he obviously cant develop a bike & Honda clearly isn't listing to him now anyway, the ducati arc will be interesting after that I'll bet he'll make the Jump to KTM in 2025.
agreed with points 2-6... 1 isn't that true. it always has been a rabid beast to control, they just got greats in Doohan, Rossi Stoner,Pedrosa & Marquez.. who could always ride a untamable beast. on a side note i am so happy to see you being a old Moto GP fan XD
Rossi's transition to Yamaha and Marquez's transition to Ducati cannot be compared. Rossi's move was a continuation of his championship journey, while Marquez's marks his retirement. I hope before he kills himself or someone else.
Honda brought this upon themselves with their utter disregard and prejudice towards Italian engineers and their unmotivated trust in Spaniards. The Spanish have no tradition in automotive and applied ICE technical acumen. They don't have any major ICE national developer (just Seat which is producing only rebadged Volkswagens and Skodas), so obviously their schools for engineers are so much less competitive when compared to the Italians who have dozens of automotive brands at the pinnacle of tech and motorsport.
Some years ago I thought Marc Marquez would be the next Valentino Rossi. A motogp legend with many victories. He was so young and were always near the top or the first. Then it just went south
If this doesn't wake Honda up I don't know what will. From glory to dirt. Hopefully Honda can turn this around, which racer would take up that task with them, let's wait and see.
I didn't like Marquez since that whole 2015 Malaysian GP debacle, but this is legitimately a move that I respect a lot. It was becoming clearer and clearer that Honda were a dysfunctional mess even during Marquez's time with them, and Marquez knows that he doesn't have much time left to have another winning season due to his numerous injuries. Honestly, I hope he wins a championship with Ducati so that he can end his career with a high note after the hell he's gone through since the end of his dominance.
I can't help but comment even if it is the most tired and nonsensical "debate" I've ever heard off. How can anyone justify disliking a rider for literally just racing and then being intentionally run off the track? Nevermind all the vitriolic hate Rossi commanded his fanboys to send to this 22 year old who did nothing wrong simply because he was losing the title battle and started chasing ghosts.
IF... and I repeat IF.... this all goes ahead! The lack of a Marquez announcement at the Japan GP was a massive indicator of these machinations. I'm no Marquez fan but I am a fan of his riding talents and am Very keen to see if all the surgeries have corrected his problems. Thus allowing him to shine with the 3 title contenders on a Ducati.
For context, Rossi left a winning Honda (RC211V) to move to a non winning Yamaha (M1). Whilst MM is leaving a non winning Honda for a dominating Ducati. Rossi was taking a much bigger risk, and he didint 'break' a factory contract (although I doubt many ppl have actually seen MM/Honda contract).....
Agreed. This is nothing like the Rossi leaving Honda for Yamaha. Rossi actually took a chance and turned the Yamaha around. MM really isn't risking much, the Ducati is dominant under any team. I'll never forget him winning the first race of the season on the Yamaha. MM will never be as good as Rossi
@@WinstonBasset me also. I thought he was crying when he sat facing and holding the front fairing of the bike on the cool down lap. I think (from memory) in his book he said he was laughing. That race (South Africa I seem to remember) was epic. Shame it didn't work at Ducati, but they were too rigid and wouldn't change enough of the bike. I think though that Rossi not being successful forced their hand to hire GG, after all if the GOAT can't win on your bike (nobody except Stoner), it's probably your bike not the riders..👍

Please do more of this kind of video on Motogp, Im an f1first fan but good videos on motogp topics are hard to come by
YESSSSSS MOTOGP CONTENT ON THE BEST RACING CHANNEL!!!!!
I rate Marquez better than Rossi however and I think he will adapt well assuming injuries won't get in the way.
can we have a lewis vs perez vs lando vs alonso for p2 title video?
Casey Stoner was right saying they will have to many crashes if they took mm advice over his
This move is incomparable to Rossi's; Rossi moved when Honda was on the top to Yamaha that barely finished in the podium in 03, while Marc will move from the absolute slowest bike on the grid to the more competitive team-bike combination.
Always assumed he'd move to KTM if and when the time came, maybe he still will, but regardless - next season really could have a new contender if Marc still has the ability.
let those rookie get the belt marc already prove his a champ on his prime those injury and age will kill his performance his mentality has change
This is honestly nuts, only been watching moto GP for 2 years. I love it
MM undeniably one of the greats but he's toast now.
This is the first year I'm really excited about post season testing.
bike development speed isn't anything like F1 so a year old bike satellite or not isn't actually that big of a deal.
The Race may not get as many views but they will draw a bigger audience. I'm all for coverage of different racing series.
Zarco, Miller, Petrux all had one year factory contracts.
Pecco and Martin both have the same number of data engineers from Ducati.
nice, good change for marc and the satellite team. Hope this mixes things up for the following seasons.
The Race and MotoGP?? Okay, thank you very much I'll take it, sir
Hope you guys touch others as well, like Nismo TV days
The Race doing something other than F1 is news almost on par with the Marquez/Honda split!
And I am here for it, btw.
more moto gp videos!! Love this. sincerely, an F1 fan
Love seeing a MotoGP vid! Keep it coming!
You know it's big when The Race does a video on MotoGP lol. There should be more MotoGP vids!
If this doesn't wake Honda up I don't know what will. From glory to dirt. Hopefully Honda can turn this around, which racer would take up that task with them, let's wait and see.
i hope they dont put it on pedro accosta... he deserves a good balanced ride for start of his motogp career
@@izanagisburden9465 I think Pedro is part of KTM no way they'll let him go to Honda?
Awesome guys producing this video for motogp. I do like Simon's elongated 'but' in regards to satellite bikes winning championships.
More MotoGp Content pls. Thank you for give us such great content
So the race is now covering MotoGP as well as F1?
Solid! Fine by me!
Refreshing to have different content at last
This is good because there's a lot of Indonesian fans love motogp than f1... Please make more content for motogp
plz do more moto gp vids. they are great!
Respect for the MotoGP content❤👏
What do you respect about it? Leaving the worst bike on the grid for the best one? COWARD move...
Call a spade a spade. He didn’t break his contract… he got fired.
whoa! nice to put a face to the name mr. patterson! long time listener here.
I never watched motoGP but I might actually start now. I love Marc Marquez, I think he's a legend worth supporting in his comeback run.
If you've never watched motogp how can you claim to love MM?
@@davidpowley7209ikr🤔
IF... and I repeat IF.... this all goes ahead! The lack of a Marquez announcement at the Japan GP was a massive indicator of these machinations. I'm no Marquez fan but I am a fan of his riding talents and am Very keen to see if all the surgeries have corrected his problems. Thus allowing him to shine with the 3 title contenders on a Ducati.
great vid! more moto news in all leagues
!
Any plans to cover wsbk
Marquez to me is like Casey Stonter back in the late 00’s. Was brilliant at Ducati, but was the only person capable of riding those bikes
