How Marc Marquez and Honda spiralled into a bombshell MotoGP split
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 чер 2024
- The unthinkable is happening - Marc Marquez has found a way out of his megabucks Honda deal, for the privilege of riding a Ducati. And not just any Ducati - a customer Ducati, which, unless there’s a sudden change of heart at Bologna, is set to be a spec lower than what the main team uses.
It's a move that completely changes the picture for both the most decorated rider in MotoGP's current era and its defining manufacturer. And it’s a huge jolt to the series’ whole competitive landscape.
None of this could’ve been foreseen until very recently. Suggesting it in 2020 - when Marquez entered this four-year Honda contract, fresh off having curb-stomped MotoGP's best and brightest in one of the most effortlessly dominant seasons ever seen - would’ve been firmly in the realm of fiction.
00:00 Unthinkable
01:14 Honda's decline
03:44 A great move
08:58 Good for Honda?

For people that don't watch MotoGP, this is kind of like if Lewis left Merc for Alpha Tauri because they stopped investing in F1, and were phoning it in. While Alpha Tauri was able to use last seasons Red Bull as their car for the current season.
You nail the metaphorically Explaination
even worse as he was still in contract! imagine Lewis breaking a Mercedes contract to move teams
not exactly its closer to vvhat if Hammelton left Merc in 2020 for Racing Point in 2020 assuming racing Point copied the 2019 ferrari
@@atishaykankaria4461 no it isn't. no part is closer. That analogy isn't even tenuously accurate.
Lewis was the WDC in 2020 and Merc was the WCC. The Mercedes was the dominant car and team. Repsol Honda is in the complete opposite position to Merc in 2020
Gresini is racing the 2022 spec Ducati, it's not trying to copy a different teams bike from the season before. It is directly being given the previous seasons spec of bike from Ducati.
No idea what aspect of Racing Point you're even attempting to use to equate it to Gresini. It seems like you just tried to use them since they copied the 2019 Merc for 2020. But this doesn't work because again, Gresini didn't copy the previous season Ducati. They are a Ducati satellite team
Thank you, helps frame this great.
Honestly, I haven't been this excited to see new content from a channel than to see you guys branching into MotoGP. Love this so much
I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we would love to see more 2 wheeled news (Mostly MotoGP) on this channel, great work!
Same. BSB is my favourite series though
count me out
@@simonh1791BSB and WSBK equally had 66 percent more fans than MotoGP since Rossi left to F1.

The Race churning out Moto GP content, bravo!
Marc Marquez moving to Gresini Ducati GP22.5 basically good idea due to how abysmal Honda is throughout 2023 season.
I like it too! Thanks fellas! 👍🙏✋️
I know so exciting 👀
I like to see them cover WEC and IMSA.
This is a dream became true. Unbelieveable. Never thought this would happen.
I was watching an old MotoGP vid from you guys back in 2020 (about Valentino Rossi) and I wish you guys made more MotoGP content. It's simply just awesome.
I still miss VR46.
This is why I love the race. They involve so much more than just f1 and they also explain it in a way for some fans like myself that don’t follow all other motorsports in a way that makes sense
This is their first non F1 upload in over a year (I couldn't be bothered to check even further for a specific date) and it's only happening because it's a once in a decade (if not more) move. Otherwise MotoGP would've been ignored and left to be an article on their website just like: Indycar, WEC etc.
NismoTVLetsGoRacingTHE_RACE hardly deserves praise for remembering they cover championships besides F1 for once. (Doubly so seeing how big the MotoGP news are)
WTF are you talking about. This is their 1st non f1 video, with mediocre coverage without hard numbers and facts.
This is their first or second MotoGP video of 2023.
@@sakshamgupta2300"the race" is more than a UA-cam channel. They have a dedicated Moto GP podcast
Sadly, i want them to livestream race like years ago
Love the new MOTOGP content we getting! Still hope you'll consider doing some WEC news in the future, since the amount of news coming out from there is crazy!
Agree.
Good shout some wec content would be good!
This is what "The Race" should have been.Videos about other motorsport instead of just Formula 1.Hopefully the channel expand more to WEC,Rallying and etc.
i agree, i like the race discuss nascar, rallying like cross country, wrc, erc, formula e, wec, indy cars
I remember they did a poll asking if people wanted non-F1 content and the overwhelming response was no. So I'm surprised the comments here are so accommodating.
Hope the Race realizes that if people aren't interested in other sports, they simply won't click the video. I'd personally love to see some Formula E content - like MotoGP, I follow FE without really watching every race, so having The Race post videos about it would be great
I couldn't disagree more. I'm here for F1 content and don't want to have to turn off video notifications
If they do, I won't watch any of it. I barely used this as background noise dining.
@@CB21001 many f1 fans don't like motorsport but just f1
It'd way more interesting for this channel to talk about wec and motogp too. Perhaps throw the occasional video about rally, indy and nascar too, especially if there are some ties to f1, wec and/or motogp
THE RACE embracing MotoGP content is a breath of fresh air
Yes. Seems like THE RACE lacking MotoGP since 2011.
Now we are talking, this is the only channel I've found that tells trustworthy news, just pro journalism. Thank you so much and keep up with the great work
As a regular watcher, I really thank The Race to venture out of F1. Their website already covers everything, and its good to see them replicating that in youtube as well. I hope you all bring content from other racing series such as indycar as well.
As an F1 fan, would really like to see more MotoGp content on The Race.
Hopefully MotoGP content on The Race just growing up like F1.
Agreed.
Thanks a ton Race! The MotoGP analysis is a perfect complement to your standard F1 fare and, as a fan of both, I'm all for it
That’s a thumbnail right there
Fantastic that you are featuring something on MotoGP. These guys are complete champions. Do as much on them as you do F1.
In some ways it's a bit of perfect symmetry given that while Marquez was in Moto2 there was a rule in place saying a rookie rider couldn't race in MotoGP with a factory team. At the time Marquez was linked with a move to Gresini Honda. In the end the rule was changed specially for Marquez so he could race for Repsol Honda but it's kind of ironic he's finally ended up at Gresini.
Yes! More MotoGP content. Next season is going to be absolutely brilliant…
This is a great video! Cracking content again from The Race
Yes! I love The Race for ALL your online motorsport coverage. Please keep the MotoGP, Indycar and Formula E videos coming!
Moto2 chassis, Moto2. ARRRGGGHH
The bike feels good, much wilder than before
Loved the Motogp video coverage! cheers guys!
It's hard to know how good Marc is right now, the Honda was that bad of a bike. But while scoring average results compared to the competition, he did pretty much run circles around the other Honda riders in the last few races showing signs that he still might have it. It will be interesting to see what he can do on a Ducati.
Especially also since in the last few years MotoGP bikes have evolved a lot with aero and devices which shifted a lot of the performance impact toward the bike and away from the rider, meaning rider skill can make less of a difference now compared to before.
Great to see some MotoGP related UA-cam content! Can we see more of this please?
U guys are best 👌 surely I grow my interest for motogp
Finally MotoGP content and that 9th title is coming. Let's go! Seeing Marc back to his winning ways is gonna hit like crack.
Marquez on the Ducati on 2024 in GP22.5 possibly gonna be 2024 WRC (Riders world champion).
I think Marc is very desperate seeing how quick Ducati is. Back to 2019, he was the reason why Honda got their development correctly and better but he knew that one day Ducati would chase his development sooner or later. Not just them but the other factory-backed teams also. And yet, he was right. Honda collapsed just like when Rossi moved to Yamaha, as they lost their icon for once more.
Lmao, keep dreaming boy. He's not going to equal let alone Rossi's record anytime soon, not even with a satellite Ducati and with Bagnaia and Martín in the form of their lives.
@@HighFlyingOwlOfMinervagot that right. And with Acosta next year will be unbeatable i think
Love seeing a MotoGP vid! Keep it coming!
Wow, I believe this is the first video about MotoGP since I subscribed in the early last year. Please do WorldSBK as well, Sir, I'am just a total nerd in terms of these 3 motorsports (MGP, F1, WorldSBK).
lately I started watching motogp (partly due to them hosting race in my country this year) and man it is so much exciting & unpredictable (unlike f1 most races), wish I started watching motogp earlier. More content on motogp is a welcome addition to this channel
Yep, even if people call it Ducati cup, theres 8 bikes competing with almost the same specs and not 2. And the domination isn't as big as in F1
SO SO SO HAPPY you're making MotoGP content!
Why wouldn't they, this is probably the biggest story to come out of MotoGP for a generation if not ever.
Can't wait till next year now....
The race collaborating with the watch guy is something that you would not expect!
Really happy seeing a non-F1 video on this channel. Quality is still up there with this video and I'm glad to see something from another series.
There's more to motorsports than F1 and it deserves being featured just as much.
Glad yall are expanding hoping for indy ,wec and imsa coverage
Awesome guys producing this video for motogp. I do like Simon's elongated 'but' in regards to satellite bikes winning championships.
Finally some MotoGP videos I've been craving from The Race!
Not a fan of MotoGp, but this fascinates me. I really hope one day you cover WRC news and history.
Great content you have done your homework well done
this video got me into motogp. thank you.
I ear everyweek your podcast , after watching this video, it’s nice to put a face to the voice. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Portugal
great vid! more moto news in all leagues
!
Love that you’re finally expanding into other motorsport categories, WEC has been low-key good and people need to know about it
Amazing how much difference a motoGp bike makes. Would be nice to see a competition on absolute standard production bikes.
Hell yeah, keep the MotoGP videos coming
plz do more moto gp vids. they are great!
The Race MotoGP podcast is essential listening and having these videos as a compliment to the podcasts is great to see 👌
More content outside if F1 please. This is one of the first one's in quite a while.
Good move for The Race on covering this story.
I would like to hear more from this channel about WEC, IMSA and WRC.
Take your time to improve guys and gals.
Hopefully THE RACE also covering V8SC.
Thank you for moto gp content
This is great content
Please keep doing these GP vids!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I learned a lot from this. Well done
more moto gp videos!! Love this. sincerely, an F1 fan
Can’t wait to see Marc on a Duke, even if it’s older spec. Put everyone on notice!
Marquez on GP22.5 maybe a good idea. Hopefully 2024 World Championship standings could be Mat, Maq, and Bez.
@@purwantiallan5089a Title fight between marq and pecco would be awesome
@@afivdwi5013Marc gave Pecco all he could handle at Aragon two seasons ago with a busted arm and a busted Honda. Pecco has no shot against Marc on a year old Ducati.
@@BTrain-is8ch2 years ago was 2021, then we know for sure that even Marquez with a broken arm and other injuries was simply better then the rest.
Now in 2023, I don't know if that is the case anymore, being stuck in a spiralling circle of injuries, falls and on god awful equipment for 4 years can really change an athletes personal performance trajectory.
I'm pretty sure it'll be the latest GP24 bike, given how Ducati gives every team a balanced funding, including Rossi's own team (Mooney Racing VR46)
Absolutely love that the race are doing moto gp content 👏
Hopefully.
Respect for the MotoGP content❤👏
Yesyesyes I've been wanting good, easy to follow motoGP content so I can get into it like f1. Excellent.
PLS MORE MOTOGP CONTENT!!!!!
IT will be very amazing to seing the alex and marc in one time again next years
MotoGP content by the Race?
Leeeet's goooo!
Lots more MotoGP video content like this please
Like everyone else here, I am enjoying the MotoGP content - keep it coming!
Good to see some motogp content
He's just leaving Honda to imitate, but never replicate, Daddy Valentino.
PLEASE we need more MotoGP related videos
The Race! Doing The Race! Things❤
Refreshing to have different content at last
Please do more of this kind of video on Motogp, Im an f1first fan but good videos on motogp topics are hard to come by
More Mogo GP please, I need to know more about this sport for sure!
I was actually scared for Marc this year especially after all the wrecks @ the Sachsenring. I think that was when he came to terms with things. If he kept riding that bike he was going to get seriously injured or worse.
He knew he can’t push it every time anymore by that point
This is the first year I'm really excited about post season testing.
Wondered what happened to Marc. This is a terrific summary thank you!
You know it's big when The Race does a video on MotoGP lol. There should be more MotoGP vids!
Always tried to get into MotoGP, maybe The Race can help with that
whoa! nice to put a face to the name mr. patterson! long time listener here.
More MotoGP and other racing videos! Nice to see something other than F1.
Hoping to see some WEC too
Nice to see other content than f1!
Zarco, Miller, Petrux all had one year factory contracts.
Pecco and Martin both have the same number of data engineers from Ducati.
Aside MotoGP I do hope more news/opinions for your other focus motorsport series like Indycar and Formula E.
Finally a video that isn't about F1, keep it up please
The best from THE RACE TEAM, finally some Moto GP content too😊😊❤❤
Hope to see more MotoGP content in the future!
a year old Ducati is still better than that dumpster fire of a Honda
Even the 2022 Duc would be better than the 2024 Honda.
My bicycle has more grip than that Honda 💀
@@Klassik_KT luca marini score zero points in that bike that show how talent Marc was to drive that dumpster fire😅
Yes!! More MotoGP PLEASE!! ❤
good to see some MotoGP news on here
You guys should make more MotoGP videos. The channels discussing it in English are lacking
I know I’m craving a channel where we can discuss motogp like f1.
Wohooooo finally MotoGP content!
thank god covered a motogp aswell, im loving this
About time you covered motogp news too better late than never.
This move is incomparable to Rossi's; Rossi moved when Honda was on the top to Yamaha that barely finished in the podium in 03, while Marc will move from the absolute slowest bike on the grid to the more competitive team-bike combination.
This move is more comparable to Rossi's comeback to Yamaha in 13; he rejected the lucrative extension deal from Ducati to become the arguably 2nd factory Yamaha rider behind Lorenzo in order to save his career and legacy.
So the race is now covering MotoGP as well as F1?
Solid! Fine by me!
Finally MotoGP Content!
Yes baby, Motogp content ❤❤❤
ducati spec series LETSGO
Finally some MotoGP content. Even though it felt like an open secret after the catastrophic German GP and what he said after he tested the 2024 bike at testing, I still didn't think he would actually go through with it with one year still left on his contract and the fact that he just got a podium! But I guess there are so many injuries you can sustain.
YESSSSSS MOTOGP CONTENT ON THE BEST RACING CHANNEL!!!!!
MotoGP! WEC and WRC contents soon?
Any plans to cover wsbk
This is great! No one covers motogp
I agree whole heartedly with the final statement. Marc has given up the best years of his career, his health and his reputation for Honda and for a racer who wants to win at all costs they've betrayed that investment by laxing as heavily as they have. I don't think anyone can blame Marc and at the same time we will almost certainly see a less dangerous version of No.93 when he doesn't have to enter suicide mode to race.
Thanks for the video, I'm getting in the moto gp world for a while 😊
