  • We all know the Jack Russell Terrier, the patchy white dog created over 200 years ago in England as a tireless furry fox-hunter and cute, clever companion.
Since Parson John Russell first developed his Jack Russell, the breed has found genuine global appreciation.
But did you know that this rowdy, rambunctious pooch is so popular that they’ve spawned several variations?
In this video, we’ll look at the differences between the Shorty, English, and Parson Jack Russell.

I have a 3 year old shorty. She's not very personable to people since when she's outside all she wants to do is find and chase squirrels and other critters, and not much of a lap dog. She would rather burrow under a blanket to sleep when she's tired. She gets along fine with other dogs. Although she is tiny and often gets confused with a mini dachshund, she needs about 5 miles of walking per day, where she runs perhaps 10 miles when we're in the woods. I doubt any Jack Russel would be a good dog unless they get this amount of exercise. Despite her very short hair, she sheds year round.

I have a shorty. I just had his DNA tested since people are always telling me he cant be pure since his ears stand up. It turns out he is 100% Russel Terrier. He's cute and loves to play rough. He is super friendly to everyone and every dog. But he will fight if challenged or protecting his toys or food.

I have two Parsons terriers, I love them to death but for any other non-human they are demons and will attack any other animals (except pitbulls - which they seem to like and play with)
