Hi JJ. Wow! Thanks for this amazing video about Pine fragrances. I'm a big fan of pine related perfumes... Lots of memories. Are you familiar with Pino Sylvestre? An inexpensive Italian Pine that I first smelled in the 1970s, 80s. Popular in London around that time. I recently bought it for my son and he likes it. The bottle is shaped like a pine cone, textured glass like a touchstone. I've taken notes because I would love to try a few of these. I've got a L'Artisan sample set with the Absinthe and I've recently bought a sample box of Bastille, including Hors-Piste which takes you skiing amongst pines. Worldwide free postage! I especially love the 'relaxed chat' style videos you put out. Sorry I missed your recent live session. I need to check my notification setting. The music & forest photography for this video gently "blew my skirt up" with delicious pine scented fresh air. 😅
Ahhh, yes, Pino Silvestre. I’m familiar with and quite fond! 🌲 I regret not giving it a mention in my video. I’m glad you appreciate my approach to the videos. I love the idea of setting the mood for all the various themes, and I’m heavily inspired by the slower pace of older television programmes. ☺️
I loved hearing your memories of going through your mom’s purse. When you described the experience I could immediately conjure the smell. My mom is in the end stage of pancreatic cancer and I find myself thinking back to smells that remind me of her a lot. It’s such a weird time; a mix of nostalgia and anticipatory grief. Fragrances have helped me a great deal during this time. It sounds like they are still bringing you comfort, even years later ❤️
My heart goes out to you, my friend. Much love to you and your family. A process like this can be quite peculiar and can shake the foundations, in a way, Fragrances, much like aromatherapy can be healing in so many ways. I’m glad you can find comfort and reflection in them. I relate very much to this practice as well. ☺️🙏
Hi JJ. Coniferous fragrances and coniferous notes are some of my favorites. I recommend a fragrance from Source Adage called "C'i'ann": it's a piney fragrance which includes a prominent apple note as well. I enjoy Calvin Klein "Euphoria Pure Gold for Men" and one reason why is because it caused me to realize that pine (or pine needles) goes well with a rose/oud combination (designer oud at least). One of my favorite fragrances is Veronique Gabai "Cap d'Antibes" and it's said to include resin from the alep tree. I highly recommend it. Also, thanks for this video.
@@JJColb Hi JJ. I want to tell you that MaxAroma has Veronique Gabai "Cap d'Antibes" for only $89 for the 3 oz. size bottle. It retails for $260. About a year ago, when I bought a full bottle of it for about $180-190, I thought that was the best price possible. It's a luxury item, and it's said to have alep resin in it as a prominent note. I've been in the market for a backup bottle of it, and now's the time for me to buy one. I think this sale price will end in about an hour. I highly recommend it.
First, I wanted to say that I have been reading your reviews for a while now on Fragrantica, and I am always impressed with your detailed descriptions. I find myself looking for reviews from you (as well as Andy the Frenchy) when looking for something new to try. I was excited and surprised to see you had a UA-cam channel and thoroughly enjoyed your take on fragrances. I recently purchased a decant of Dorians Fougere after watching one of your videos, which I really enjoy. As far as pine notes/accords in fragrance, Arso is one of my favorites from Profumum Roma, as well as a few others from the house. Another pine forward fragrance I really enjoy is from Rook Perfumes - Forest (the 2020 edition). I look forward to viewing more future videos from you and trying some of the fragrances you mentioned in this video. Keep up the good work, and thank you for turning me on to some new gems!
Hi there! Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m truly flattered and appreciative. I am so glad you enjoy both Dorian’s Fougere and Arso. I’ve gotten a few recommendations for Rook’s Forest. I ought to pick up a sample. 🌲🌲🌲
Awesome list! My recent discoveries: Forest by Rook Bindebole, Oxylus, Fanghorn by Pineward En by Svensk (this brand is very interesting) Spell 125 by Papillon Incendo by La Curie
It's interesting, the more I wear the original Polo, the more I feel that the bottle should have been brown. Rarely do I get an outright green colour in my mind anymore. Perhaps it's the leather, caraway and dry tobacco accords? Was just wearing Elite the other day! 💚 Really looking forward to seeing more pinene in modern fragrance releases. The Bottega Veneta pour homme line gave me hope before it was quickly overwhelmed by the blues. 😆 Who knows, maybe this'll be the year.
It would be great to see renaissance of pine/conifers, herbs, and true aromatics in more mainstream releases. One can hope! I get what you mean about Polo, too.
Great video and as usual I swear stunning examples. I find myself liking piney perfumes a lot. I sleep very often wearing new version of Yatagan. It’s so relaxing to me and taking me back to my teen years to the camp tents in the pine forest.
@@JJColb I also like Wazamba by PdE and also tried Burwuwu which you were recommending. Sometimes I just don’t remember which ones I was reading about in your frag account and which ones I was hearing about on your UA-cam) That one is also very interesting and Im keeping my sample for olfactory traveling😊
I adore Fille en Aiguilles, this was a great one to watch, but I wish the prices were a bit easier on my wallet these days. Aramis Devin used to be relatively affordable, and the new formulation is, though not bad, not quite the same. Excellent presentation of a lovely selection.
It’s heartbreaking that Fille an Aiguilles and a number of other gems now in the Gratte Ciel lineup as not so accessibly priced. ☹️ Aramis Devin used to be SOOO affordable, I know! I can’t help but to feel partially responsible by exalting it in my videos. Thank you so much for your appreciation, it means a lot. 🙏
The vintage Devin After Shave is quite strong. It behaves like a modern edt and has a boat load of oakmoss. I accidently bought one, complained to the seller and then ate crow and wrote them an apology because it was so freaking wonderful. And Devin Light Sporting is also great.
Coniferous frags are my favorites! Great insight! Right now I love 4711 Acqua Colonia Intense Wakening Woods Of Scandinavia, Aramis Devin, Bottega Veneta PH, Goutal Bois d'Hadrien, Issey Miyake L'Eau Bleue d'Issey PH, Jacomo de Jacomo, Lalique Encre Noire A L'Extreme, Loewe Esencia PH, Sung Homme and Dior Sauvage Elixir (I was very surprised that this one comes as very coniferous to my nose). Cheers! P.S. Tsar and Pour Homme are not discontinued, but only available in the new bottles at V&A's flagship store in Place Vendome, Paris.
Awesome! What a great list. Oh, also, thanks so much for the news on the VC&A frags! They sound quite exclusive now, but I’m glad they are still being produced. 😊
@@JJColb I was looking into incense perfumes and your video came up on my feed very greatful thank you for your content people don't realise how much goes into makeing these videos.
Wonderful list! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your writing. I love this category of fragrances. I had a good chuckle when I listened to your description of Fou d'Absinthe - a fragrance that I really love. As you initially described it as "tweedy... bookish... sweater and corduroys..." And my immediate thought was, "Yes! Mmm... Sexy." 😛 I feel like Fou d'Absinthe is incredibly sensual, cozy and intimate in the drydown. A favorite for sure... And one that definitely rewards close encounters. Ha! ;-) Thanks for sharing your writing!
Great list…I’ve had my eye on Arso for awhile. Of the fragrances I’ve smelled focusing on conifers, my favorite is Apoteker Tepe’s The Holy Mountain. Smoky, resinous, transcendent pine and fir. Have you tried it?
Hi JJ! Amazing list. I have a question for you. What do you think of Filles en Aguilles in the Gratte-Ciel? I would put the 2016 remake of Jules as one of my favorite pine (needles). Such a underrated reformulation. Better than the original for me.
To be honest, besides Les Indemodables Oriental Velours and its notable appearance of spruce, I haven’t discovered another good spruce-dominated fragrance. 🙏
