Here's the big difference between Squale and Rolex. Both make a fine watch but the Squale is 1/10th the price and you have to be a total douche to buy a Rolex in this day and age.
Thank you for another great review Oleg 😊👍
Good video. This confirms my suspicions and feelings about the brand based on other videos. More important for me, I enjoyed the Mamiya camera cameo.
The Glycine Airman has the same movement and complication, but is a lot cheaper and is an original with its own history.
Very true
Looks better too!
I have a few of the airman watches, I wish I went with a 40 mm version. Mine are too big.
@@WrongTimeWatch i have the combat sub i love it, a dive watch at 10mm tall its great
@@rkillalea6706 Yes, one of my favorite watches. I have a few of those also. Also a tad bit too big for my wrist.
I can’t afford another Rolex & I genuinely don’t give a flying shit if it’s a master 2 clone. If you get down to materials & labor the modern stainless Rolex lineup is a 3k watch with 10k of marketing wrapped in to compensate for the 5 point crown being plastered all over every sailing & golfing & racing & tennis event. I’d love another Rolex & maybe some time down the road it will happen, for now, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a fake submariner or master 2 so the squale is a good compromise. I own the watch featured in this video, (blue bezel no date) & I also own the 1521 in black with the von buren style case, that watch is a sporting icon. Definitely worth a look.
I bought an earlier version Squale GMT-cheap clasp and mine had 21mm lugs! Btw I’m selling mine. Inexpensive 🇨🇭 watches are usually assembled in Switzerland 🇨🇭 with a Swiss movement-but all the parts(other than the movement) are made in China 🇨🇳 or Indonesia 🇮🇩!
I like this watch, but, I would like to see it in that particular blue that Squale does so well, with a blue ceramic insert. I think this is a good platform from which to build. By the way, any plans on releasing some new colours for the Bond Nato Straps?
Great review! I like the fact that the dog is also included! :D
Looks like a fantastic watch and seems to conform to the wrist much better than Steinhart.
Build is way better than Steinhart. Screw the “original design” comment - Squale have been around for years and make great cases. I disagree you should look anywhere else, I actually prefer my GMT to my BB58 and my Pelagos.
Beside the Rolex theme, I think this is a pretty cool watch.
It’s a cool looking timepiece, but I’d really like to see the bezel uni-directionally
I have the 42mm "Pepsi" version. I really like GMT watches and this is a very well made watch. Yes, it should have a bi-directional bezel like my others, but I can look past that.
Very smooth crown action, one of my best actually. The polished case sides show every blemish and fingerprint would be about one of the only negatives, aside from the bezel action being uni-directional instead of bi. For the money, the 3 section bracelet on my watch is fine. Luckily mine also has the sword hands, not Mercedes type. I know it's a homage to Rolex, which some enthusiasts do not condone, but if you like this style, which I do, it's a fraction of the cost.
my coke version has a bi-directional bezel ........... where it wins for me over say the Steinhart is the use of a non mercedes hour hand........... Love mine (although I did have an issue with the diver extension when it arrived but the AD soon fixed it!)
I can hear the voice of Squale man lol
Wrist size about 16cm Is good for it? Nice video. Very good.
I’m a bit late here…sorry. My wrist is 15.5 cm (a bit over 6”) and this watch fits fine. There’s no overhang of the lugs or anything!
🙂👍I have the 20 ATM and love it. I Git the blue dial. Most people will look twice at it. Very accurate time. Agree that it look alike a Rolex.
Can you please test the water resistance of the new seiko5, would be interesting how deep it is
I agree, it would be very useful to know how well the 5kx would hold up in the sea and how deep
Genius idea
hi Oleg, how are you, mate? I never had a Squale, but I have had a lot of Steinhart and currently I have a Ginault OR1 and another Ginualt OR2. Even though Squale is a quality homage to Rolex, it is in bit tough position. Slightly better than Steinhart (both Swiss Made) and bit more expensive than Steinhart, but it lacks a lot of refinements compared to Ginault (of course, much cheaper). So if someone is looking for the best Rolex homage there is, they will buy Ginault and if someone is looking for a decent yet very valued homage, they will choose either Tisell or San Martin. However, there are some follower and it is quite well made for the price. thanks for the review Oleg.
Steinhart is 100% better than any Squale. I sold my Squale 1545 because of dodgy quality and bought a Steinhart 39mm GMT which is a rock solid watch with great quality for the money.
did you try davosa?
@@hymovement their manufactured by squale.
I've got a Steinhart which is super impressive for the money! I have a cheap as chips Parnis homage which looks almost identical to this Squale. Obviously not in the same league but on appearance no one would notice unless brand savvy. Good review Oleg👍🏻😎
How's the Steinhart quality? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks
@@Goodnightandgoodluck-c7m I bought mine 2nd hand a couple of years ago, but it was mint! Too big for the guy I bought it from. That aside, to me it is faultless! Keeps perfect time & looks fantastic! I’m looking to buy another model from their range.👍🏻
@@andrewd7586 Thank you. If budget permits, I would definitely get one myself. Have you heard about gnomon watch dealer? Decent price and free shipping via DHL
@@Goodnightandgoodluck-c7m Yes thx! That’s the site I’ve been looking on!👍🏻
Interesting content. Regards.
Hey John.....I’ve been emailing you.....we need to talk! Not responding is making it look suspiciously like you were behind my channel being terminated! Anything to say?
I think it looks thick because the sides are flat, slab style like a Tudor Blackbay not curved like a Rolex.
Mk1 was also 42mm, and not 40mm. Have had the Gen 1 for a few years, it’s still in my top 2 and the 42mm looks different to the Rolex. It’s a great watch. Sw330 movement, great ceramic bezel. I’d pick this and spend the 8k saving on an Omega AT.
I prefer squale homages over steinhart ....
Just can’t do it. I’ll always feel like I didn’t buy what I actually wanted.
I wonder if John McScamus will show up again and insist the watch is made in Hong Kong.
It is an homage of the Sea Dweller, not the GMTMII. Steinhart makes this same piece with the same movement for $200 less.
If you haven't noticed, Sea Dweller doesn't have GMT function.
Bond doesn’t look impressed🤣🤣🤣nice content
Nice review.
I at one time had a 1545 20 Atmos. I sold it. I basically have completely lost interest in Any watch that looks like a Rolex. I used to think the homages were cool when I first got in.
I actually have a Squalematic and a 101 Atmos. From what I have seen, they are basically using case designs of old Squales from the 1960s. I personally really like the styling and find the quality very good.
It’s a very tough watch I must add.
Imo they should nuance it a bit more,
For example...make the numerals on the insert
way more thick and blocky, less black showing than the real Rolex
if you are going all out "homage" then they should make that lume absolutely perfect, like as in "wait till you see this lume guys!" type lume. Of course i'd never own something like this, but thanks for the review as always Oleg.
I own a 1521 (50 atmos) and I have none of these bezel issues. This one looks like a cheap copy, disappointing
I wanted to buy the pepsi version of this watch, but never got around to it.
I just bought and received the Coke version of this watch (Red & Black Uni directional Bezel) and the quality and workmanship is 1st Class. No issues at all. Stunning watch and with 15% off Sale price came in at £645.00 delivered with 2 year warranty.
I’m very happy 😃
Not a fan of homage watches but I would like to see a Jlc reverso homage if there is one.
Isn’t that an oxymoron?
@@JonathanPieforPM not really seeing and being a fan are two different things
@@andyt6819 fair call. I had a Hugo Boucher reverse watch years ago - like 1990 something. I think now looking back it may have been an homage or a fake or just cheap but either way, I’ve just recalled the name. I will maintain the Squale is a decent watch in its own right. :)
@@JonathanPieforPM yeah I’m just curious why there are homage of so many watches but not a mainstream reverso, I feel it would be a money maker
Way too rolexy for my tastes, best bit is the lack of awful mercades hands. For a Rolex gmt copy I'd go for the steinhart Steve McQueen.
Thanks to viewer for letting you review it. Cheers 👍🏻
@Steve Fox : I agree completely as I adore that watch; but, remember, that is a Rolex homage also, which seems to freak everybody out.
@@edteach3r good comment, cheers 👍🏻
Great video. I also had problems with quality control from Squale. Bought, the same watch to find scratches on the side of the case and a horrible bezel action. Lume was also very lacking. Ended up returning it. Last Squale for me.
Apologies if this all sounds a bit negative, but for my US$800 I would have hoped for a better quality bezel action, perfect alignment, and for the lume to have been evenly and more generously applied. Sorry, but at this price everything should be spot on - and on this watch it just isn't......
It's not negative buddy because you are telling the truth. I had the same quality problems with my Squale 1545 and sold it to some idiot in Italy. Thank god that piece of rubbish exited my watch box.
I have no experience with Squale watches but to me the bracelet and clasp look very cheap. Am I wrong?
My choice would be Steinhart gmt 39👌
I understand why Squale push out these Rolex inspired watches because they are popular but IMO it comes at the expense of weakening their brand. It’s about short term gains. IMO focusing on improving their classic range of watches is a stronger strategy.
It’s a 1:1 Rolex copy. What makes these big popular brands decide to do such a thing? Very confusing
They know Rolex is a cult.
It's more confusing why would anyone want to pay that much for a homage??? If you are curious, just buy a $80 Pagani Design GMT homage if you want to look at yourself wearing "Rolex" in the mirror. You have enough left over for couple of genuine Seiko divers.
@@sobeit712 some people have more money than brain, thats why.
@@sobeit712 you're comparing a mid tier Swiss watch to a bottom tier Chinese watch. No comparison.
As for the Rolex design its old as all fuck. The patents have long expire and now anybody is free to use it. Same goes for cars, clothing, medication, tools, guns etc etc. (everything in life)
Do you know how many things in life are a 1:1 copy?
Everything from guns, clothes, medication etc etc
Once the patents are over its open season.
Perfect example.
The best bolt action rifle design is that of a company called Mauser. A brand new Mauser M98 is rolex money but heres the kicker.....
90% of all modern hunting rifles are mauser action rifles and nobody cares. Its only the watch community that has a cry.
Mercedes-benz invented the automobile and everyone else copied
Lacoste invented the Polo shirt and everyone else copied
Jeep invented the 4x4 and everybody copied (Japan captured on during the war and shipped it back to toyota so they could reverse engineer it and they created the first land cruiser)
Mauser created the Mauser action rifle and most hunting rifles copy that design
Levi created denim jeans
Blancpain created the first ever dive watch and everybody copied (ROLEX INCLUDED!)
Watch companies like Squale and Steinhart make homage watches to the GMT and Submariner. If you want one of these from Rolex it is near impossible to get, which leaves the market making homage watches to get the look of them. There are more submariner homage watches out there than any other watch. Copy a famous design is all they are doing. Making a good watch is another story.
Well said.
I bought a Squale and flipped it after a month. Hated everything about it. Not a brand for me, and this is a bit shameless.
I don't want to sound like I'm joining the haterade-drinking cult, but I do believe that Squale does indeed suck hahaha. You can get better value with the same, if not better, quality from other brands with the same aesthetic choices as Squale. Zelos, Glycine, Steinhart, Seiko to name a few. Thanks for the review tho man, respect.
A unidirectional bezel is just a no-go on any GMT
The Dog is prettier than the watch.
Great vid but i would be embarrassed to wear this watch in all honesty, if you want a squale fine but one that clearly tries to imitate a sub gmt so closely is a bit cringe
holy shit i thought i was the only one with reasonable taste! i always get shat on when speaking my mind! random rob wont even post my comments anymore :) but i cant help that i think homage/copies and microbrands belong in the fucking garbagebin!
theres a lot of emperors new clothes going on atm! this is truly an awful watch!
@@bent540 lol no denying this is a true shitter
@@bent540 lol, I can see why he won't post them.
First!
Great. Another Rolex copy.
Sorry but minus the hour hand, this is 1:1 replica of Rolex GMT. Squale lost my respect on this one.
It's a fake Rolex… It is, the fact that it's a Rolex bracelet copy and you won't call it for what it is.
I really like your channel and I know this is not your watch but,
Fake watch for a fake man. I'm not writing hate, just don't believe these things should be endorsed or bought.
i think when companies does this it means they have NO respect for themselves and NO trust in their own capabilities ergo squale is NOT a real watch maker!
