If you found this video helpfull and it saved you spending a lot of money at a main dealer or garage then I would be really grateful if you could drop me a wee donation using the super thanks button and help me make more of these videos. Thank you all, Dave.
not only fascinating from a mechanical point of view, but a really really fine piece of film making and editing as well. especially loved the audio (the occasional bird in the background was a plus). incredibly entertaining. thanks for all of it! P.S. subscribed!
Don't know but I believe that you have done this before--very peaceful watching you take engine apart and putting it back together again-back in the early days, I owned two Beetles, a 1965 one that I used for a Mud Machine and a New 1972 Super Beetle that was Fun to Drive in that era of time....
Thanks. I have done this once or twice in my 25 years of tinkering with VW's but this was the first time I bothered recording the process. I bet your '65 didnt stay clean for long.
Love the sound effects. Lol. Those had me chuckling a bit. Great video. I like tearing down VW engines just to clean them up and put them back together again. Flat four VW engines are the easiest, funniest engines out there.
Came out sweet plus i learned what that machine in the kitchen is for ! No dought you are. A bachelor like me LOL Cool draw on the hose ! Nothing better than a well organized and clean engine on a older car or boat !
Cheers Craig. The machine in the kitchen is apparently called "the F***ing dishwasher". I learned that when my wife said "why are there car parts in the f***ing dishwasher"....... I got away with it when I told her the parts were off her car :-)
than you sure did a good job on it, Some time back my dads mate had a blown head gasket in his VW combi and I did the gasket change with engine inside, very easy to work on these cars.
It's nice to rebuild an engine that's complete and not butchered. I've done a couple in my time and spent days repair crap other people have devised on these engines.
This engine had spent its life in the USA so the tinware hadnt had the chance to rust badly. It was a nice change to have all the screws come out without tearing the tinware to bits.
dude 2nd time watching this . doing this myself now . the editing was really top level . you had me smiling and laughing . the sounds . really a work of art this video
Thanks Tim. Thanks for the suggestion but video is not meant to be a detailed how to, just a quick entertaining story of how I did the job. All the torque specs can be found in workshop manuals.
Please put a metal fuel filter from NAPA just under the tank. Those plastic ones are Molotov Cocktails positioned directly over an ignition source. Ask me how I know. Great job and great video!! Pure V-Dub porn!
A 69 Ghia is a great save, you guys are gonna love working on that. Definitely go that far with things if you have the time, its the best way to work out how things work.
The oldies beat the hell out of modern bullshit any day it's a thrill makes my day to see young people intrigued redoing restarting I like the old days when Hitler's revenge's we're everywhere vw was good transportation
I had a 67 bug. I froze my ass off in the winter in that thing. The best mod for those cars is a gas heater, either an old aftermarket unit or one of the new China made versions.
Why? All you needed to do was fix the heat on your car. I have never had a problem with mine in my 67. I had a 68 once that had broken cables, but when it got cold. I would take a coat hanger and wire the heater boxes open. Problem solved. But then the heat was on all the time. 😁
Might want to take some safety wire to the clamp holding the fuel line to the carb. That fitting is pressed in, pretty notorious for that fitting to pop out while driving, happened to me once, all it took lol

Man, I love people who DO things! That was awesome work!
Wow very nicely done.. I hav 4 beetles 56, 58, 63 & 66 love them all
Beautiful video! You sent me back to the 80's when I was back in Cuba with my dad working on my 1956 bug. Love your video.
Brings back memories: I was doing this very deed a couple of years back with my own flat 4. Well worth the effort! Good vid thanks.
Genius. Learnt more in this video than those with audio
Great Job. Loved the VW Special tools and the home made special tools. Thanks for sharing
Healthy sounding engine at the end!
BTJustice Brilliant video...I'm going to watch the seat re trim video later.
Thanks
Ok,that was entirely too enjoyable to watch! Sooooo satisfying!! Thanks for sharing!
Very well done. Great job and thank you for doing it!

I found the Alfa flat 4 in the old Alfasuds not very funny, especially at the pumps.
very nice work. I'm jealous , i will do mine in winter, thank you again
Cheers. I just finished editing the full restoration of the car into a video so check back tonight for the full story.

I find myself happy and amused how that went. Didn't miss one minute! Great job!

Nice that you took the time to make that many different clips... made it very interesting to watch... Result is really nice...
Very satisfying video...love the fast forwarding!
And nicely filmed! About to embark on Saab 96 restoration, never attempted!
Lovely. I really enjoyed the full video.
Awesome werk
Looks nice! I miss my 66 Beetle. At least I found a correct year display model of it on my shelf now.
Oddly enough that was satisfying.. Nice Job.. 👌
This video was so satisfying to watch, but I seriously hope he tightened that crank pulley. That vibration will wreck the crankshaft.
Thanks and yes, the crank pully was torqued up and has been fine for the last 4 years. It dosnt run true but its not off enough to effect the engine.
Appreciate the time this video took to put together. great stuff!
dude 2nd time watching this . doing this myself now . the editing was really top level . you had me smiling and laughing . the sounds . really a work of art this video
Thanks dude, hope yours goes well.
Really well done videography
Well done! Great video man!
Nicely done ! One suggestion -more use of torque wrench /specs.
Thanks Tim. Thanks for the suggestion but video is not meant to be a detailed how to, just a quick entertaining story of how I did the job. All the torque specs can be found in workshop manuals.

Well done nice video job
Well done sir...
that was awsome
Thanks Gary, glad you liked it and remember to check out my other videos for seat re-trimming and more VW vids.
Enjoyable video. Looks good. Only think I'd change is the vacuum advance pipe to the carb.
great video edit and work on the engine. Congrats
cool, ill clean my beetle engine too. its time to make it shine again.
Pure art 👍
Please put a metal fuel filter from NAPA just under the tank. Those plastic ones are Molotov Cocktails positioned directly over an ignition source. Ask me how I know. Great job and great video!! Pure V-Dub porn!
I love the vw sedan! And its engines
Great video!
Great video! Don't know if we are going that far yet. My son and I saved a 69 Ghia from the car crusher!
A 69 Ghia is a great save, you guys are gonna love working on that. Definitely go that far with things if you have the time, its the best way to work out how things work.
Such an awesome video man great work, really top notch. 👍
My wife would kill me if I tried to put car parts in the dishwasher 😁
I laughed.
I just make sure she doesn't catch me
But if and when I forget that I have some parts in the dish washer hoo I shudder to think!
That part 😂he must not have a wife
Fun to watch, thanks!
Impressive work. Salute you man
Very enjoyable to watch!
Great job.😎👌👍👍👍👍👍👍
I see you was quick on the draw with the hose great job.

Doing it on standard method ......very nice
Cool! But please remove the fuel-filter near the ignition-coil and put the filter near the tank!
Muito bom...parabéns pelo trabalho! !!!
Como esse motor e espetacular....👌
Attaboy!Watched the whole damn thing.I have was T2, too, with so the engine of.
Min oil level to max oil level in a VW beetle is around 1,5 liter max and that sound is awesome. :)
Awesome video, great job
Fantastic video, but I'd move that fuel filter. Don't want a fire happening.
Bravo old chap...
So beautiful. Cheers
Awesome build! I'll be putting my engine together soon. I don't think I'd get away with the parts in the dishwasher though LOL.
Quedo muy padre!!

Thank god you did this in fast-forward!
Might want to take some safety wire to the clamp holding the fuel line to the carb. That fitting is pressed in, pretty notorious for that fitting to pop out while driving, happened to me once, all it took lol
