I'm coming to NYC for the first time in a week's time. I really really want to visit the Bronx but my 70's 80's head makes me cautious. However the videos I've seen so far show the Bronx locals to be super friendly, way more than the UK. I like it's more grittyness than Manhattan where we're staying. Would a guide be recommended?
I’m headed to NYC in Aug ‘23. I’m planning to spend most of one of our days in the Bronx before attending a Yankees game that evening!! I can’t wait :)
I had just left my Airbnb in The Bronx cause I was staying in NYC for 5 days. So, I booked an Airbnb that was cheap but had good reviews so I felt safe with it. I didn't do much searching about the area and I regret it so much (It was my first Airbnb!) So... I don’t know. I had to walk 10 to get to the train station every day and for me it was so so scary! At night I could see People walking around doing crazy stuff or making noises, i could feel something really heavy in the air. i felt like in a movie, i had never experienced something like that Every night I used to take an uber back the Airbnb, but on the mornings I walked (scared) Idk. I would never come back to the Bronx, just saw a little piece of it and i know its not smart to say this but i think i had enough of it! 😰
I presume if I’ve hung around some iffy (but not even remotely THE ABSOLUTE WORST) areas of St. Louis then I should be rock solid in the Bronx sunup to sundown? As long as I don’t lean within immediate proximity to the tracks as a subway is coming (hear people being pushed into an oncoming subway is not uncommon all over NYC even when things are as calm as can be).
