    Of course you mixed this record.. This is my all time favorite NJ album.. I could listen to the whole album on repeat for days. So much separation, the drums hit hard when they need to and sound organic throughout. Love your work on this album.

    15:00 too much cymbal bleed? then why not gate first then do the EQ after so it only eqs the drum and doesn't affect the gating? Just confused why you say cymbals are holding you back. thx

    Hi Jordan ! Thanks a lot for this walkthrough !
    Just a little question but how do you exactly handle tracks like OHs, Room, Reverb and Parallel Compression in the case of a metal/modern nu metal drums ? I have watched every videos from your channel but these tracks often seem to have the same goal, I don't really know how to properly set the compressor and volume for each ones.
    Thanks a lot !

    Hi Jordan! Once again, great stuff, thank you very much for taking the time. I got a question for you, please: why are you using aux sends to your snare bus and kick bus from the original channels, instead of setting the output of those channels to your kick and snare buses? (The output of the original channels in this project is set to your drum bus). This way, your snare sound comes both from your snare bus and also from your drum bus in a parallel way (besides your "crush" channel which is also working in parallel). Why do you choose to do this? I hope you can understand my question. That's the only thing I didn't understand about your workflow. But everything else is clear and I really appreciate this tutorial. Thank you! Edit: Nevermind, I found out those are just VCA channels. Thank you

    I can tell you're from Canada by the way you say "out" which is "oat". Let's check this oat. So, where is Nick from???? Canada! I heard some of that album a few years ago. I thought it was really good but never really listened to the drums so much (being a guitarist) but this is quite interesting. I wonder how you got those samples into their own tracks. Did you somehow trigger them FROM the real tracks? Maybe you have a vid on that where you explain. Thx for the walkthrough!

    • @capoman1
      @capoman1 Рік тому

      I can't remember which video. I think it was one of his "best plugins" videos. He uses a plugin called Trigger 2, it triggers off of audio and you load your own samples. I think he even mentioned he shares his custom samples on his site.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge Рік тому

      @@capoman1 ah. ok. Yeah, layering sometimes lets you get more interesting sounds and more control. I always wondered about using like 7 or 8 snare sounds just to create one snare sound. Prob wouldn't be so amazing but what if you panned each one? and gave each it's own effects. hahah multitracking.....

    • @capoman1
      @capoman1 Рік тому

      @@TruthSurge One of his videos he shows loading a bunch of samples in Trigger, it has an inbuilt mixer. So yes he was adding top and bottom snare and room snare samples and mixing them to give the snare more body. So yes it can sound really good, and it's transparent, mixed together it sounds like a unique sample.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge Рік тому

      @@capoman1 yeah, layering is a great technique. I have done quadruple guitar tracks to make rhythm sound bigger and even 7 tracks of guitar. It really can make some amazing sounds

    14:00 this happens to me. I get a lovely snare sound. And then when the room / reverb goes in, the snare top disappears and makes up like 5% of the overall snare sound! Can anyone hear a noticeable difference when the plugins are on and off in this section?

    • @hardcoremusicstudio

      check that delay compensation is on. if it's still giving you phase problems, copy the plugin chains so they're the same on both tracks, and just bypass the ones you don't need to each one specifically. That way the plugin delay will line up.

    It`s funny how all of you "mixing gurus" recommend that one should only work on a track in the context of the whole mix with all tracks going and then work on isolated tracks and busses all the time ( which makes perfect sense ) ... I have no idea why you say nopnsense like this ... of course you need to work on individual tracks before you do the whole mix ... and there`s no way around it ... there are many other tips you give that are very iffy at best. The advice I have is this: LEARN YOUR GEAR WELL, HAVE THE SOUND OF THE FINAL MIX IN YOUR HEAD, GET AS CLOSE TO IT AS POSSIBLE and PRAY THAT YOUR CLIENT LIKE IT TO. If you don`t have the ears and the resolve to do it, you don`t belong in this business. It looks like you only do these videos for some YT pennies
