    This was really helpful, I haven't gotten a chinchilla (yet) but I want to do as much research as possible before getting one. Thanks!

    Another great video, keep it up! (Also, when you breed chinchillas I heard the best thing to do is to have a smallish cage so the doe doesnt accidently trample the kits. I just want to know if that is a general thing or if it depends on the specific doe's behavior.)

      Yeah they do have to be in smaller cages, we call them kit safe cages they are a lot shorter than normal cages. It's not so much because the mother will trample the kits. It's more that the kits can climb only hours after being born and if they fall even a relatively short distance they can do them selves some real damage. I know a breeder who had a kit fall from a fairly short distance in the cage and it cracked it's skull open 😢 . Some breeders have really small cages with length reduced as well , bu most of my cages are the same width and length as a normal cage but but are just shorter to prevent accidents. I will have to do a video on the cages I use at some point.

      @@AllysAnimalAntics Oh, thank you for clearing that up. I was just curious, but now I feel bad for that poor kit.

      @James Dell the kit survived 🙂she took it to the vet, she had to hand raise it herself as it wasn't safe to put him back in with the mum. He's about 4 months old now and doing very well all things considered.

    Thank you so much again for a very useful video. I used to worry a lot and take to the vet for every little variation on my chin conduct. This helps me a lot.

    What if the poop seems to be getting smaller? What does that indicate?

    what would you say when a chin has a wet eye on one side. I dont notice any other problems. this has been for 2 days now. I have removed the sandbath in case her eye is irritated. The eye doesnt look weird but I just see wet fur and through that her skin. Her other eye is perfect. She eats. I am very annoyed because I picked her up a week ago .....

      I would take her to the vet and get her teeth x rayed as wet eye/eyes can be a symptom of dental issues. It can be caused by an eye infection or a blocked tear duct as well,but it's best to have a vet examine her to make sure she doesn't have any dental issues.

    hi! im currently trying to find out about this but ive neglected to check my chins dental health(she doesnt like to be held and i try to respect that) i just checked LuLus teeth and there yellow but it gets lighter twords the outer edges i already have alfalfa hay so im going to give her more(what about botanicle or orchard?) but back to teeth in the middle its yellow but twords the outer edges it gets noticibly lighter its much more closer to yellow than white but theres a noticble gradiant if that makes sense? is this normal or is this signs of deficency? cant really afford a vet visit right now shes very active and annoying when i wake up and get home i work nights so were on the same shedule kinda (shes in my room) also does any other chin parent love the food stare and especally when they do bar nibbles i love it dont you? they just get in the most guilt tripping positions and stare at you

      it's normal as long as the teeth aren't really pale. Just give them a bit more alfalfa if your worried.

    Hi so one if my chinchillas lay down alot is that bad??

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  3 роки тому

      As long as the environment is right , like the ambient temperature is not too warm, then it's fine , often when they lay down it's just they are super relaxed.
      Just make sure the area you have your chinchilla in isn't too warm. If they are doing it after playtime then they maybe exhausted in which case reduce the amount of time you have them out for. Hope this helps
