This is probably one of the best guitar instrumentals I've ever listened to. So much versatility in his style and technique as well as profound emotion and an amazing flow to the song. And this is coming from a metalhead so you can imagine how good this is for me to go crazy over it like this!!
Love your comment as a jazz guy who's really starting to appreciate metal (huge fan of Megadeath and Pantera)....good music is good music, regardless of genre.
Love Howe. For me he uniquely integrates a beautiful funk groove into his playing. Anyone feeling a little down put on some Howe. Genius and hugely underrated. God bless ya man!
I recall when I got this "tape" or cassettes as they "were" called back then. After listening to it for what seems like ten thousandth time, I've got no choice but to proclaim Howe as the rock/jazz/fusion God!!! I truly feel that his playing peaked on this recording but somehow keeps improving!!
I love how his songs have so much technique, then the "solo break" is like really low key traditional jazz parts. He does what he wants because he's Greg Howe, and he's GOOD.
@@nwic The note pitches are correct but the timing isn't quite there. The swing is the whole point and the whole joy of Greg's playing...da...da-da...da-da!
Yeah but i just started listening to all of Greg Howe's albums lately, and Guthrie's style is heavily influenced by Greg's playing. Still i think Guthrie is the greatest guitar player i have ever heard in my lifetime.
much less distortion than his first album, still kills though! it's harder to play cleaner fast and have it sound just as accurate as with a lot of distortion.
He's really respected in the guitar community but mainstream I don't think any guitarist can do it. No matter how good they are. I'd love to see an instrumental guitarist pull off what Kenny G did on sax. They are just as creative and alot of them have tons of feel and soul. I think guitar playing like this is an aquired taste. And all of you listening to this song and getting off on it's awsomeness have damn fine taste!!!
When Introspection was released, I put my guitar down. I became a critic. Why bother? It's no longer any use, the event-horizon has been reached. No longer anywhere to go!!! Thanks Howe??? You should buy my gear Greg!!!!😈
Agreed this is a mean world he deserves alot more reconition he is more tasteful than Steve Vai and EVH and I like them both but Greg has more tasteful solo then them guys
Such a great song. I can't get my head around his lead guitar sound. Loads of compression for sure, but is he using overdrive/distortion at all? It sounds very clean, right? It's like all the good stuff from an overdriven sound - feedback, compression etc - but played with a totally clean sound, it's pretty amazing.
Well the reason I say more tasteful than Shawn is because I have been at one of best friend's house and shawn lane was there and Paul gilbert Check this out Paul is a big fan of Shawn Lane WOW! as good as he is.I have a track that Greg howe played at another friends home studio and I played rhythm and lead part then the second solo was Greg totally tasteful.I have to find the cd so i can post on youtube this was about 20 years ago
Tapped lick. One of his main tricks for getting those wide fast intervals. Pick any chord, and with your fret hand hammer the notes without picking. With your pick hand find the shape of the next inversion of that chord and tap those notes and pull to the notes from the original chord shape. He likes to string skip these licks too. So for example if you did E Maj at the 12th fret and E Maj at the 19th fret you would hammer (H) the 12th fret E with your fret hand, tap (T) the B at the 19th fret, and pull (P) back to E at the 12th fret. From there it's just the shape of the two E Maj chords string skipped. H 14th D string, T 18th fret, and pull back to 14th. Then H 14th A string, T and P 19th. H 13th G string, T and P 16th. Then repeat D string lick. H B string 12th, T and P 17th. Repeat G string lick. H E string 12th, T and P 16th. It will seem hard as hell at first, but go slow, and make every note clean and in time. Once you get some speed going and get the chord shapes under you fingers try it with minor chords, diminished, augmented, and unrelated chords. Start off trying to make just two skipped strings sound good, and work up from there.
Absurdamente genial.
I get goose bumps every time I hear Greg play. One of the best of all time

@@RobotChampionSC So you know about Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson then? From jazz/fusioners in “The New Yorkers” to metal gods in Megadeth!
Greg Howe serves no genre, he's just a genius. If you listen to his early guitarwork and his transformation toward fusion it is quite obvious
Love Howe. For me he uniquely integrates a beautiful funk groove into his playing. Anyone feeling a little down put on some Howe. Genius and hugely underrated. God bless ya man!

I love how his songs have so much technique, then the "solo break" is like really low key traditional jazz parts. He does what he wants because he's Greg Howe, and he's GOOD.

What a refreshing song
Yes where was I, first time hearing this, amazing mastering, gives me shivers, Kevin Soffera`s lines are wild........
This piece is so hard to play on guitar, but the fact that parts are in 4/4 time removes at least one obstacle lol
TJ Hooker what time is the first bit in? rlly weird timing i havent heard it before
Awesome dude!
@@Jkobe2345 1 measure of 4/4, then 6/4 followed by 13/8 during the drum break.

Gio The Producer yeahh...the best !!!
He's great, but my vote goes for Helios Creed.
Guthrie Govan is king!
incredible notes
The part I love the most in this tune is the bass I never heard such bass lines before.
É um desafio tocar o baixo
I like Guthrie’s Waves, i love Howe’s Jump Start
Beautiful music from Greg's soul and heart
Great. He is the untold influence of guthrie govan if i'm not mistaken :D
guthrie listens to just about everything :^)

@@JadeTwo It's not the same thing. These are two different types of difficulties.
Súper, súper guitarrista. 👏👏👏👏👊👍🎸
Greg Howe, the futuristic player on his age. So great one!
Flawless playing by Greg!
This is jazz with soul! Very to see stuff like this. Jean-Luc Ponty and Greg Howe: the masters of making non-square jazz.
I can only say "fuck".
The song is perfect: I can hear almost 4 genre in it. He's a fucking genius!
You have whatever I need you are my idol
Greg Howe and Paul Gilbert are pioneers , everyone else are just students

the whole shrapnel peeps are the pioneers
Very easy to start groovin to this.
This is ahead of its time for sure. Sheer awesomeness and groovy

Good Old Greg !
O que me impressiona também é a linha de baixo, eu pesquisei e achei nada sobre ele
All i can hear are pops abd explosion of amazing sounds
My favourite song is Jump Start from the Greg Howe's Introspection album.

I like to play the guitar.
I asked Guthrie Govan why he wouldn't record an album with Greg. He told me because we have a similar style. We sound like twins.
How the hell does he play so fast?
Greg Howe "Jump Start " -- Clean sound version / NO-DISTORTION
no doubt hes underrated, but im pretty sure he dont give a damn :)

Not live but you can see how it`s played.
You don't get to his level unless you're practicing 24 hours a day you sleep with your guitar and all you think about is music.
Pfft you mean you don't sleep........
Greg Howe? More like "Greg HOW?!"
