Hi Ed, saw your comment. She is great! Wonderful tone. About the best I have heard. I have started practicing. Maybe I can get into the Richardson band after a bunch of practice.
Edward Qualls: I'm so glad to hear that. She's damn good ,and so relaxed into the bargain. The whole performance was most enjoyable, but it was hard to look away from Ms. Woodley.
Katy Woolley Mozart Horn performance is the epitome of tonal beauty. There is such an excellent, vibrant resonance with the string instruments. The horn's melodic sound is so pure, so cheerful, so real it channels majestic sound. Magnificent chamber orchestra.
She has the most phenomenal, mellow, pot melting, homey sweet sound I heard so far. Strings sound very energetic with singing attitude alike, beautiful!!!
@@nachthorn8249 absolutely, she is "the music" in Berliner Philharmoniker it always comes to sound, rich but mellow and music music music, play like it is song like singing then the magic is real.
Written in 1782 for his friend, Joseph Leutgeb, for whom Mozart wrote his splendid Horn Concertos, the piece has three movements: Allegro : 00:02 Andante : 04:32 Allegro : 08:42
True genius is making it seem easy. Not just Ms. Wolley; these people are all incredible musicians. Bravo to all of them. I love Mozart dearly, and have performed quite a bit of his music in many different contexts. I can tell you that he never wrote an easy measure.
The ensemble is excellent & very emotive, however special praise must go to Katy woolley, the horn player: Her sound is so very smooth, warm, flawless, & beautiful. I'll bet that we're going to hear her name a lot in the future. Thanks!
I have recently been learning this piece by playing along with her using my speaker system. What a wonderful way to learn - play along with the masters. The tone gets into my head, the techniques, timing, phrasing, dynamics, everything. It is a game changer. In a matter of weeks, the change has been phenominal. Thanks Katy - gonna marry you!!!
Having been a horn player I've heard several renditions of this over my life time but I believe this one to be the best, and it is due to the fantastic horn player! Wow.
What a gorgeous tone. I use Radovan, Tuckwell and the likes as my go to standards. BUT Katy is absolutely on par - amongst the best in the world- a great pleasure to listen to her. Bravo. Thank you. Indeed, she is now included in my updated go-to standards to attempt to copy - what a splendid example to follow. The master, such that it is inspiring just to listen to and absorb. By beholding, we become changed. I don't know if the audience can appreciate this quality unless they are die-hard horn players, or afficianados of the horn. Being a horn hobbiest player myself and sensitive to good stuff, this is nothing short of inspiring as I listen to each and every note, dynamic range, tone, and so on with a keen discerning ear. Wow! A heart felt thank you. Katy - gonna marry you !!! Dave
The strings include one violin, two violas and one cello , which concentrate their tone in the region of the horn. Yjis one is the dominant instrument.
We stumbled on this, and admire all the performances so much! Thank you! [ Returning accidentally two years later, the audio seems to be decoupled from the video -- very strange!! (Katy Woolley's performance is still dazzling!!) ]
She makes look so easy!!! Incredible! Your technique makes powerful, delicated, accuracy and amazing performance. Maybe I can to say she plays like mix between Barry Tuckwell and Dennis Brain. Thanks so much Katy!
Here, Katy Woolley has established a brand-new category of talent, something new under the sun: By force of personality, plus truly amazing French horn chops, she has made Mozart's horn quintet SEEM like a legitimate composition. By sheer will power, she forces musical life into it. Incredible to behold! (News flash: Mozart is an exceedingly uneven composer. He flipflops ludicrously between the celestial -- e.g., the clarinet quintet and 40th symphony -- and the cringe-worthy -- e.g., the clarinet concerto and 41st symphony, with none of his pieces so disappointing and embarrassing and insulting to musicians everywhere as the horn quintet, close relative of his Musical Joke for two horns and string quartet.)
Fantastic rendition of Mozart' french horn concerto. Once, a long time ago, I played french horn...not concertos, and not that good, but she plays great. Thanks for that great interpretation.
@@raphaelhudson I'm wondering it too. Maybe this horn was special made with an American/English bore and Bell, but I have no idea. I know different people can sound completely different on the same instrument, but I don't know if that's what makes the difference here. It's interesting to think about though!
Sept. 2019: Katy Woolley became principal horn of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Congratulations to both!

Well, she IS principal horn in the Philharmonia Orchestra, so...
And now she is the principal hornist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the most prestigious in the world.

An absolutely ravishing performance. Many, many thanks for posting. Regards.
Such a beautiful sound. I hear she just won the principal spot with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Agreed!
I second the motion ! Excellent !
Ditto. !
One of the best horn sounds I've ever heard
The hornist is the principle horn in the philamonia orchestra
Is she a hornist with principles ?
Principal
Now she’s the principal horn of the RCO in Amsterdam
Just let's say she is horny but has principles.

Fantastic performance. Such a delicate, tasteful interpretation. Katy Wolley is amazing.

I've never liked the English school or sound but Katy's sound is TOTALLY BADASS!!!!!! Beautiful and DARK, rich sound
Happy Birthday btw!
She studied in germany that's may be the reason ;)
Katy is now the principal horn of the Royal Concertgebouw!

perhaps a little nearer to Dennis Brain
That 2nd movement was something else.
Sublime
At 12:15 she is like - gosh darn this instrument, can never play a perfect take!
Göttlicher Mozart!❤
soooo goood! thank youuu =D
Bela execução e sonoridade.
The hornist has a beautiful sound and perfomance. Also she is very beatiful.!!! Congratulations...

It’s so complicated... yet so simplistic. This is why I love Mozart!
Simple. Not simplistic.
That horn, Wow!

¿Javier Bonet playing viola?
Lol

Is that a Paxman horn, her sound is to die for!
Raphael Hudson Alexander 103
Strange her tone is not characteristic of a 103 at all; its more warmer and rounder. I wonder if she has modified it

02:59 Mozart Clarinet Concerto
Two violas? Wow I just got it!!! :Phenomenal!!!
Hornist really cute after missing high B flat...only note missed though...
AND she's playing an ALEXANDER F Horn - maybe the 103?????? Beautiful playing!
Yes, 103
Not just an F horn. It's an Alexander 103 double horn, F and B flat.
Is the audio off from the video for anyone else?
This is love guys
why is the second violin in between the viola and cello
CynicalCactus this piece is written for 2 violas! So the person you think is 2nd violin is actually 2nd viola!
Nice. Can anyone tell me what kind of horn she is playing?
ua-cam.com/video/ShvzhkGoQYE/v-deo.html there you go
Could one of the violas or violins be substituted with a lute?
