William Quinn was my third great granduncle by marriage and was killed at the Battle of Coleto Creek. What Texas history generally fails to acknowledge is the number of Irish born Texans who fought for Texas independence, William Quinn was born in County Clare, Ireland. He and a large group of fellow Irish men and women emigrated to Texas on Mexican land grants about 1829-30, Timothy Hart, was a first generation Irishman whose parents were also born in County Clare. Timothy was William Quinn's brother-in-law and was my third great granduncle. He along with many other Irishmen signed the Texas Declaration of Independence at Goliad. The Irish settlements were centered around Refugio and San Patricio Counties, in Texas.
