    Question brother, have you ever pressed on a 100% polyester shirt? If so, what heat and temp do you recommend? I have been getting scortch marks on the shirts that don't come off. ( The square outline from the press doesn't go away on the shirt even after wash/dry). Great info on all your vids

    • @BigBrandoh
      @BigBrandoh 3 роки тому +1

      nah i rarely press on 100% polyester. i dont have an audience for it. but my guess is the heat is activating the pigment in the material. turns the pigment into a gas and thats why you are experiencing discoloration. how to fix it? im not too sure. i would contact who you got the transfers from and see if they have a work around for you.

    Got a question regarding lower platen cover you are using. How has your experience been? I am thinking about adding one. I am getting press marks on 50/50 gildan hoodies that dont wash out.

    • @BigBrandoh
      @BigBrandoh 3 роки тому

      on my last press my lower platen cover lasted almost 10 years. its the same one that came with the press. its mainly to keep the rubber pad in place. press marks or discoloration on 50/50 garments happens when the heat activates the pigment in the polyester. i would try adjusting your heat and press time. this happens to me when i press heather colored shirts. like a burgandy heather and theres a small amount of polyester in the shirt. the burgandy ends up becoming a dark burgandy if i press too hot for too long.

    Hey Big, Man I got a question. It seems we have the same clamshell press (HPN Signature Series 15x15 w/pull out bottom). My shop started picking up a bit and wanted to upgrade my press. I bought me a HIX 15x15 auto open and it arrived Friday. Man this thing is all there! So I set it up and got it ready to work and fired it up today (Sunday) for a few orders. Here is where things get weird. They say you are not supposed to heat test with a infrared heat gun. They say that will measure the heat coming off the platen first before it gets to the platen itself. Just to see I set the new HIX at 330 F and when I shoot it it reads 104-109 F (top platen). I then throw a garment on it and press it for 15 sec. as soon as it comes up I shoot the garment and it reads 276 F. Now let me make it more interesting. I didn't want to press any orders with it if I wasn't sure she was calibrated right and getting to the right temps so I threw old trusty back up and did my work till I talk to HIX tomorrow. Get this, I have always been able to shoot my HPN Signature Series with the gun. I set it at 330 F and it reads with the gun at about 326 f. Shoot a garment after I bring her up and it reads 318ish only because it cools fast. I found one guy on YT that says it will show significantly different temps with a gun (clamshell) so the way to test it is put a Teflon sheet on the top platen like you did press it for 30 sec and shoot it right away when you open it. Welp that didn't work for me, the HIX showed lower 200's. Now I cannot find anywhere where people are shooting their clamshells with infrared guns and its reading like my HIX is. That one guy that I told you about on YT he shoots his and I think he has it set at 305 f and it shoots at 183.5 then he presses it for 30 sec and shoots it and gets a 307 F temp. The only thing I know what to do is get hold of HIX and ask about why it reads so low when you shoot it with a infrared gun but when I shoot my HPN press with the same gun it reads what I have it set at within a few degrees. I did order some Heat Press Temperature Test strips that should be here this week, that you lay on the bottom platen in all 4 corners and one in the middle and will tell you the temp. So, can you tell me your thoughts on this? Thanks Bro!

    • @BigBrandoh
      @BigBrandoh 3 роки тому

      man i have no idea. my first guess was maybe its set to C and not F. or let it heat up and then level out after it beeps to see what its at. i dont know much about that HIX press. all i do is set the temp. let it heat up, once it beeps, i let it sit for another 5-10 min. then i shoot it and its where it needs to be.

    Not sure if it was on this same video that you mentioned this🤦🏽‍♀️ , but for the heat press do you recommend plugging it into the wall or getting an extension cord ? I recently got the craft pro and heard about shortages and what not and I live in an apartment so was wondering if it would be ok to not use an extension that’s 12gauge

    How do you gauge what time and temp to make up for the pressure??

    • @BigBrandoh
      @BigBrandoh 3 роки тому

      time and temp is based on the recommended application instructions. pressure is usually always heavy.

    You have the SurePressue device on your machine. Do you think this option is an advantage over your manual method? Meaning is the SurePressue device worth the money if I have the money to spend on it. I just don't want to waste money on a "novelty" option if I'm never going to use it.

      if your just pressing T shirts... not needed. but if you are doing hoodies, crewnecks, jackets, t shirts, bags etc... the sure pressure is a life saver. being able to reference something like "press shirts at 50, press hoodies 37, press Nylon HTV on bags at 29, press masks at 52 but masks with mouse pads at 25 etc" that shit helps. since i got this press, its been a game changer for me. but if you are only doing shirts, its not a big need

    CAN U DO SOMETHING COVERING ALL 3 SPECIFICS TIME, HEAT, AND PRESSURE.. A LIL MORE ON TIME AND HEAT FOR HTV

    • @BigBrandoh
      @BigBrandoh 3 роки тому +1

      that will be based on the company you use and what they recommend. example: if the htv company instructions say 350 for 10 seconds firm pressure. and you do that and it doesnt work, you have to adjust your settings. go a little hotter and try that and then a little hotter and try that and so on and so on. this cant be shown in video because all of our presses are different and it will ultimately be based on your own individual press and your own settings

      not a feel but you wanna make sure it holds up in the wash. so press it, wash it and see what the results are. your going for longevity for your customers. making sure you can provide them with a quality print that wont mess up after one wash. feel me?

      @@BigBrandoh & Marisa, I have the 15x15 Craft Pro manual-clam from HPN, and no kidding to use heavy pressure, you will dislocate a shoulder or jerk your neck out of line to get the thing back open. I can shut it, opening it is the issue. So I bought a heavy wood desk that I'm going to try mounting it to, but until I get that desk sanded & carried inside, it's still on an end table that I do not want it mounted on. Do you think if I use medium pressure & then just press down on it myself at the same time, that would give it more heavy pressure, so I can get it back open without killing myself?
