      It depends on whatever gas you fill it with, from what I know hydrogen gas works well. it's a closed system though so no gas is released...I think.

      I dont know anything about this specific exact device but usually a stirling engine uses 2 cylinders to operate anyways. A loose one and a tight one.
      But yeah i agree a different engine config would balance better.

    It does not have to be calculating the position of the sun all the time, that consumes energy, you just have to calculate it every 5 or 10 minutes, that drastically reduces the amount of energy used when aiming at the sun.

    • @jondrayna6978
      @jondrayna6978 5 років тому

      Not really. Just to clarify, it's CALCULATING all the item. I assume what you meant was adjusting the position all the time. In any case, moving the reflector assembly takes a trivial amount of energy. Besides, if you energize the tracking motor for a quarter second 10 times or for 2.5 seconds once, what's the difference? Moreover, you need to hit a pretty small target. This is a beautiful tracking system. (From somebody who's built one. ua-cam.com/video/yS9tEpHysvQ/v-deo.html)

    • @aarondewindt
      @aarondewindt 3 роки тому

      I think one way to scale this up is by using single axis parabolic solar concentrators to heat up water, oil or some other fluid which can then be used to feed a larger engine. Temps are probably going to be lower though. Or have a central tower with the engine surrounded by a field of mirrors, you how it's done with a solar power tower.
