It looks like if she wants to end slavery, she needs to choose between going to Westoros or ruling Mereen.
Agreed, Slavers Bay would fall back to slavery if she leaves
From reviewing history the best way to end slavery is to just end it. No deals or concessions with slavers, no middle grounds, and no compromises. Otherwise you'll either get a system where there's slavery with extra steps, another KKK or Death Eaters terrorist group, or both.
the most important thing is to take the gold from the masters. without gold, they have little power. dany should have done that in yunkai. it would also be wise to leave the unsullied as a support for the reforms.
no, the only real way to end slavery is to end the system itself and the ones who benefits from that.
That means going after everyone who would traffic and sell people and everyone who would buy and exploit them.
That's a lifetime job, and she needs a way bigger position of power to achieve it, not just be in Meereen, because even Westeros has people who benefit from slavery.
Sight, GRRM created a situation with not a good ending and conclusion for this storyline if Dany dies, because she's the liberator figure that everyone follows because people believes in her and the ones who wants to benefit from slavery are afraid of her.
Kill her and slavery comes back, keep her alive and her only shadow and power will create a new generation free of slavery that we'll grown up free and able to fight for their right and their freedom.
Personally I wish she would go to Westeros. I want to see her restore Targaryen rule there. A marriage and life there would be much closer to her morality and happiness. She doesn’t belong in Meereen. Meereen give her nothing but misery. Her cause is noble, she cares about every single one of those freed slaves and her character can’t turn away and let them suffer. So while I want Westeros for her, I don’t think she will leave. I think she’ll get stuck there deeper and deeper unless she finds herself again and soon.
I've done my own listen through of the Daenery chapters, nothing so far. I could actually make a better case for Tyrion Arya and Sansa all going mad
Yes! Especially considering that Sansa feels NOTHING when she sees someone get cut down during the King's Landing Tourney in GOT- in fact, Sansa's even bragging about how emotionless she is unlike Jeyne, who's horrified. Not to mention, when she learns that Jory Cassel, a friend to Ned Stark and someone so close to her growing up, was murdered by the Lannisters, the only thing she thinks is that the new Master of Arms is so much hotter. Ugh.

The mereenese blot makes a good case about Dany becoming a more darker character and Martin himself said it was one of the fews that really understood the Mereen plot.

You're analysis of Dany and Daario, so romantic. I love it. And I just want to thank yall so much for creating this series on Dany. As a young woman, I was awed by Dany's revolutionary character and I was so offended by what they did to her on the show. (Plus I'm a woman of color too, so how they treated her black and brown army was a double knife twisting) But you guys are doing her character so much freaking justice. I really really hope GRRM doesnt have the show ending planned for her. It would be so irresponsible and ugly. Anyway, keep up the good work. I'm gonna send yall something when I get paid this week

I've always felt like he was a complicated character...like, he is indeed one of the most morally questionable people who surround her...but he does love her...he is a bad person but he is genuinly in love with her, and she is a good person who loves him back.

I don’t think Dany will go mad in the books. I think it’s more in line with Dany’s character that she’ll die sacrificing herself for “her people.” My bet is that she’ll knowingly allow Jon to stab her in order to make LightBringer and save all of humanity from the Long Night.

OOOO that was a pretty epic take on the "mummer's dragon" I like it a lot, that she has become a false version of herself.
My previous take on that was that possibly the "Sun's son" could be another cryptic mis-gender interpretation of sun/son. It means Arianne not Quentyn, she could be a "sun" representation of another Sun (Doran). It would then become the "Sun's sun and mummer's dragon" which would be that pairing of Arianne and Aegon, we see eluded to in the pre-release chapters. This would better fit the list because no one else on the list is referred to as a gender or as something other than a symbol. She is a Sun's Sun, as much as Tyrion could be a Lion's Lion, except he's not referred to that way because he's not representing Tywin while Arianne is representing Doran. Which draws the contrast as to why those are the only two that are identified by using a reference to someone else; maybe it's wrong to think that Quentyn (or Arianne) and Aegon are the ones that Danaerys is being warned about, and the warning might better apply to the string pullers the *Sun* and the *Mummer* they belong to. This works because the warning/"prophecy" was told to Dany not written, it sounds the same.

@@benjamincederberg818 Very true, that was part of my inspiration in interpreting the clue that way. But I think it's too hard to analyze too far into the other fictional languages translation meanings unless stated out right by a character like in the case of the whole prince vs princess thing. Especially as GRRM gives it all in English even when he says they're speaking something else and other than the few words here and there he didn't create the "full" languages used in the show. GRRM writes epics but he's not a linguist like Tolkien. If it was Tolkien I'd bet there's a whole etymology somewhere for every word he made up and we could analyze every detail down to her accent lol

I think a really good way to end slavery is getting Braavos on board. They are the most powerful Free City in the known world and have an ancestral vengeance against that institution. And they're rich as gods (Iron Bank, which unlike in the show DOES NOT trade in slaves) which is super important in asoiaf.
Yeah, they have an ancestral vengeance against Valyrian dragonlords too, but mainly because they were slavers as well.

Suns son, quentyn and mummers(Varys’) dragon(aegon) both had marriage proposals for dany. That is why quaithe paired them together. If aegon didn’t change his course he would have arrived at similar time to quentyn. As we know quaithe prophecies aren’t 100 percent accurate

Not gonna lie, after reading all the awful things Dany went through in A Game of Thrones I just wanted to watch the world burn too.
Ur wrong Danny isn't the mummers dragon...the sun's son n the mummers dragon are together as they are both part of the dornish plan...dorans plan...he has sent the sun's son n the mummers dragon is being allied with as this goes on thru ariannes mission...they were mentioned together since they are both part of the dornish plan...it doesn't matter if they didn't come to her together what's more important is that they are both a part of the same plan

Think the error you make here is if Dany's downward slide is going to happen it will do so after her last chapter in the current books. She seems pretty feral when the Dothraki find her again- with all her hallucination, bleeding and puking etc. Along with her starving. I think her downward slide if it going to happen will happen in the books coming. If we take out her melting King's Landing and imagine that dragon attack on a city is Yunkai or Meereen, New Ghis or Slavers Bay (Volantis) - it totally plausible and makes more sense then her killing King's Landing. Like everything in Essos, Slaver's Bay etc have all been the worst possible scenario and breaking her justice down with so many compromises and worst scenarios.
Also be funny if in the books she never falls in love with Jon but instead it Darios filling in all the stuff they had Jon doing in the last season

This is pretty much why Dany should've left the hellhole Slaver's Bay is, when Quentyn came and brought with him, the might of Dorne. But Dany is a strong character, so it makes sense. It was the smart thing to do, but unfortunately Dany is stronger than she is smart, I don't like to say, but it is what it is.
I think Dany will go mad in the books and I think her burning KL will happen too she has many similarities to Anakin Skywalker. In the first four seasons she states a few times she ll burn cities to the ground and shes obbsessed with becoming Queen always talking about it shes a terrible ruler who acts inpulsively , shes childish, shes becoming ever more convinced her decisions are always right she doesn't care when she takes innocents lives she even smirks on occasion she ll end up dead in KL in the books Jaime, Cersei and Dany will die they are three George willl kill I dont see Dany surviving I bet my life on it

Dany is still a young girl in some ways and I don’t think she’s seeing Daario clearly through the teenage hormones yet. I think Daario will flip on her at some point. His naming meaning “good” could be a red herring

Considering that he's a sellsword, I would bet on the betrayal by gold. Daario doesn't love Daenerys, he loves the dragon queen, an idea of her.
I'm proud of you guys and this was a great informative video. I never thought to dig deeper into Daario and his name meaning, and the joy he brings Dany since I thought he was a jackass who had no sense of propriety with some monstrous undertones. Also, that part in the end where you put out that Dany IS the mummer's dragon and how it pairs up with Quentyn is really fascinating. I honestly did not consider it; and my idea of the relationship between Dany and Quentyn is one where she tells him to go home for his own safety and he's too stupid and fearful (of losing his creepy daddy's favor) to comprehend the danger he is in Meereen.

I'll hate that she'll get to help aid in the Great War and just catch shit for it. I'm already going to decide that I'll hate the Starks before the next book comes out.

The bloodstone emperor worshipped a black stone that fell from the sky. Do you guys think there is a Dusk? An inverse of Dawn so to speak.
Very possible, I wondered if Valeryan steel was the opposite, but as far as we know there's nothing that indicates any of the components fell from the sky.
Maybe the Red Comet will be of the same material as the oily black stone?

Dakota Clark read Bloodstone by Karl Edward Wagner. It’s about an Eldritch Abomination that is a giant Bloodstone from space. Great sword and sorcery novel and I think GRRM just put that in there as a shout out to Wagner. Heavy Lovecraft influence with a generous helping of Robert E Howard
Love the analysis of Daario and Dany to Bonifier/Rhaella. With this vid- I still have a hard time with Mad Queen. Maybe GRRM will unveil an easter egg in the next book but for now...the book Dany does not reflect the show Dany. Thanks for your content.

I believe that she wont go mad like in the show but she will still burn kingslanding because if she dont she and drogon her last living dragon (my theory) will die and she doesn't want to lose the throne her and so many loved ones died fighting for and will also burn kingslanding castle with cersei in it and when its all done she will walk through the ashes she created like in the house of the undying and jon like the wall of ice she walks through he kills her and she reunites with khal drogo and rhaego.
Great stuff as always. Dany being the mummer's dragon makes a ton of sense as I never believed Young Griff was anything but a dragon.
Dany not wearing the crown always felt like her psychologically throwing in the towel. She had enough with being queen and just wanted to be a girl for a change.

Very good insight. I also think it's fair to point out, (in line with this thinking) that the "three betrayals" may be referring to 3 others betraying her, but 3 betrayals she herself commits to herself and/or her quest. For example... she might betray Mireen for love, by running off with Dario in the end, or make some betrayal to out of revenge when someone close to her dies. The betrayal for gold, might be her betraying some allegiance or marriage in order to make a pact with fAegon and the Golden Company (or convince them to betray fAegon. The point is... I think there are nearly endless possibilities for each of her "betrayals" to be referring to her betraying her allies, kingdoms, or even just herself, to fit all three of those. What are your thoughts on this, and what do you think are potential avenues for her own betrayals?

Ima confess something to you guys. I dont particularly like Dany or the Targaryens. Stannis shall always be my one true king! But she isnt a bad egg, it's weird I would think I'd like her. But Stannis has just captured me as a flawed but good man at heart.
kagsgirl How is Stanis in any way low tier? I mean I don't particulary like him and I love Dany, but they're kind of in a similar position. Theybelieve they have a mission assigned by birth as the next in line to rule and to protect their people. Stanis was the only one that answered the call of the night's watch.

I relate alot to Dany in the sense that if it doesn't get me closer to my innate instincts then it doesn't spark immediate interest. Some people enjoy the game for it's own sake, or because the like the power, but Dany is torn betwern wanting to do good by people & living her best life- both of which are part of her natural inclinations. Only once she realizes she can do both with her and that she doesn't have to lock one part of herself away for another will she become a real dragon again. As a wise man once said it us not the semblance of health we need but rather true health

This might be off topic, but it's right up your wheelhouse, wanted to post this here as well. (BTW, great fucking job as usual and please make a plan to do some more of the pre-released chapters, that Theon chapter is awesome Stannis is a straight gangster. Some great stuff there with the ravens talking like the old bear's raven.)
I've been thinking about how to put this, but what is disconcerting to me is that alot of the stuff George sets up in a way that a maester could point to it and say that never happened, it's simply a legend, the same way alot of our "history" is chalked up to being a story. Like the stuff in the Old Testament. Then we find impact craters and we can say yeah seems there was a flood and possibly a civilization that perished. It's very similar in these books, except, there is also bloodmagic, ice zombies and dragons. So similar, but not quite the same and very fucking hard to formulate theories around. Are the legends of Asshai accurate? Was there a sea king that slayed a giant sea monster? Well there's a massive chair built from the same black stone, and also massive towering ribcage stuck halfway into a hill. So who the hell knows. It drives me insane because he muddies the water and makes it hard to figure this stuff out. Lol.
The whole series is littered with symbolism and the "language of the birds", speaking in symbolism as taught in Freemason lectures. Specifically cataclysm symbolism. Dragons are comets. Comets wreck havok when they impact the earth. That's why history is full of stories of comets being bad omens. He literally says it in one chapter, but it's taught that way by the masons. "That comet means only one thing boy, dragons"
I hope maybe one of y'all comes across this.. if Bran saw a dragon in this passage "The smoke and ash clouded his eyes, and in the sky he saw a great winged snake whose roar was a river of flame." Which is seems undoubtedly that he did.. WHERE did it go and what kind of role would a secret dragon play in the story?

Those same lines always troubled me too! The current version of Dany is the mummers dragon, but I think there's more.. "there's a lion and a dragon, am I the dragon? Or is she part lion? Search Yurkhaz ..all in a name..your cuz? Is that even possible? Yurkhaz is described as an old Lion of impeccable birth who had read His histories. Lets look at the Lannisters. Tywin's brother Gerion disappeared on a voyage to Volantis. Geri means old ie geriatrics is the care of the elderly, an old lion. Tyrion considers asking Yurkhazs flute player if he knows the "Raines of castamere", that's strange..Genna Lannister was a princess to Tytos and Tywin until she disappointed them, she had affairs..could she have had one with Aerys? A dragon and a lion? Theres a lot more, search Yurkhaz. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Love Qot 🌹

My immediate thought from the name analysis is that Daario and Bonifer represent halcyon feelings. Daario Naharis = "Possessing good day" and Bonifer is "Good and hasty / good of speed".
Daario's time has come and gone I think. Bad times for Dany ahead, although the series began very much focused on a woman who had lost her love but found another loving relationship in Ned. Just a thought.

27:55 I had my suspicions that the mummer's dragon was meant to be describing Dany too but for other reasons such as the theories that she's not really Targaryen but a girl Varys found in Dorne or possibly Ashara's girl, who still has Valyrian blood in her or else she wouldn't be able to hatch dragons, but just not the girl everyone thinks she is. But you have an interesting take on it too, which I also find could be correct.
In retrospect, I think their take is correct- because the " Fore and Blood" bit when she is almost dying in the desert can be read NOT as a moment of " fuck, the coin flipped on the wrong side" but as a " Yes, girl...know who your are --- the next coming of Aegon Targaryen and your own person." It is a moment of glory, not defeat. Aegon Targaryen was not a butcher. Dany will have her Field of Fire 2.0 AND her Harrenhall- I believe the Red Keep is what she will burn in the end, NOT the entire city as DnD wanted. She will be right in doing it, but as Aegon before her, she will win the Kingdom, but not their hearts for doing it. The question is: will it be enough for her? It was for Aegon,
I believe the last shot, of Dany flying away on Drogon never to be seen again is THE ending GRRM truly intends.
You know, there's a nice, calm reassurance of knowing exactly what the next 28 minutes and 30 seconds of my life are going to be like- just relaxing and listening to 2 experts break down a part of one of my favorite books.
