I think what scares me the most is that it just sits there. It doesn’t jumpscare you immediately and just waits for you to see

It's so weird when things are scarier when it's not instantly trying to do something. It just sits there observing you, leaving your mind to wander what going to happen next, the scenarios you play only get worse the longer nothing happens. "Is it an actual thing? Will it attack me if I turn away? Does it just want to talk?". Like you can't make a move until you know what's happening

What makes this white figure even more terrifying is that he can scare you from different parts of the room and not just from one particular spot in there. A horror game with those kinds of unpredictable jumpscares is in another class of it's own in that genre. Well done to the developer for this genius mechanic they put in this game. I can't wait to see the final product come out in the Spring.

I think the one where it’s on top of the cabinet is really effective. Something about scary things looming over you without you realizing it is just terrifying.
For me the standing one, i think the way it goes away seems realistic than the top one just glitched out lol.
For me its the fact Its right fucking there in your face and im like hmm hands and instinctively look up just for me to almost die from a heart attack but hey this is why i love horror games

From what I've seen, that's actually what happens. I've watched...three or four streamers/UA-cam content creators play this. Each playthrough, different scares at different times and different places.

Exactly. Sometimes not all of the mini jump scares even happen for some players. Like, when I first saw the compilation of players who experienced the banging door jump scare from the morgue, I was really shocked that that was part of the demo. Cory Kenshin’s reaction to it was the best one since he happened to be wheeling the previous dead body back into the morgue right when that jumpscare triggered. His playthrough also got the rare jumpscare of the dead lady suddenly whispering “You’re going to die,” while he was checking her head for any marks or bruises.

There should be more scares like this, where there's no loud noises or jumpscare. Just the ghost standing somewhere in the room looking at you until you're POV centers on him. It'd be cool if there could be procedurally generated animations where they make several different animations in each intended room and each playthrough chooses a different spot.

In Fatal Frame 4, there's a figure doll that looks normal until you view it on camera mode and she swings her head looking at you, it doesn't have any indicators, just happens

Realistic reactions will always be more than shrieking theatrics. Having that moment of post-scare embarrassment is usually a pretty good sign that it was a legit reaction to being startled.

The "scare chord" and creature animation doesn't trigger unless you visibly look at him with your crosshair, and it's built in a way that you need to be facing AND looking at the scare for it to fully trigger, which ensures that players dont accidentally miss scares
Furthermore, the scares can be unnoticeable, which really lends to the feeling of "Hey wait is that...AHH FUCK HOW LONG WAS THAT THERE?" feeling that great horror has.
Personally I'd rather like it without the scare chord after encountering a scare, but it's pretty solid even with it there
I didn't see this thing when I played the demo. I heard a musical cue, but I guess I turned around or something too quickly to properly react to it, lol
The smaller jumpscares are a little more random in this demo. Sometimes the white figure will be peeking in through the window, and other times it will peek around one of the other cupboards in the room before disappearing into the wall. The fact that those kinds of jumpscares aren't always predictable in this game, especially in a demo of it, is very intriguing but definitely makes the game even more terrifying to play, LOL!
IcyCaress missed it too, but he got more than his share of shrieks anyway. I think this guy might have been too much for him. 🤣

Man, I wish more games do this. I never had a fear on things actively trying to scare or hunt me. Because it just makes their intentions clear and I know what I should do. But when it's just watching you, you're just confused on what's about to happen. You just have to keep your guard up, and the encounter just lingers in your head.

My favorite version is the shelf jumpscare and I think part of the reason why is because you don’t quite notice it immediately. You’re going through supplies and see a pair of hands gripping the edge just off the screen, and it takes a moment to process.

I've done it by accident a bunch with my mum and step-dad. Just standing there waiting to use the toilet and I scare the pants off them.

I’m apparently very quiet, walk quiet, breathe quiet but I’m 6 foot 3. I was working at a restaurant and was waiting behind someone in the freezer cuz I needed in there two ad when he turned around he whimpered and like convulsed and just barked “damn make noise man!” 😅
the fact the jumpscare cue is perfectly timed to when the player actually notices them is amazing. so many different occasions where the player had it in its FOV but didnt notice it and the jumpscare didnt cue yet.

I like how the monster isn't letting out a loud ass scream or anything out of nowhere. The fact that it's just looming and looking at you and won't leave until you realize it is just genius.

I love how the jumpscares in this game are semi random. I watched two streamers play, the thing appeared twice on top of the shelf, but they failed to notice resulting in them not aiming the camera high enough to trigger the jump. Third time it appeared... Well people screamed.

It's incredible how well this scare is done. It's subtle and doesn't alert you that it's present at all. For me he was on the roof and as I walked back from the PC it felt as if the room was smaller / fuller but I couldn't figure out what it was. It made me super uncomfortable and eventually I noticed the figure. Coldest chills I've ever had.
It's always a great horror game when the scares are just things for you to notice but not obvious in your face.
It plays into the fear that you are always being watched, things are still moving around. And you have to always be on high alert. As opposed to horror games that only makes scares when you start to progress. It only gives you enough insight to brace yourself This trick brings more creativity to the scares, like if you just wander around in random past areas looking for progress, but very rarely, there may still be something lurking around

I love how this is often barely a jumpscare. Like it can be a jumpscare or just a 'yo wtf' moment depending on how you move about the room. It doesn't pop up in front of you and make a noise, you actually have to look at it before it does anything.
