Tires are, in general, the 4th highest cost of the fleet, behind only fuel, payroll and maintenance.
What few know is that, when there is no adequate and efficient tire management, this cost can become the 2nd largest in the fleet.
Regardless of the cost hierarchy, for the sake of traffic safety, tires need attention, whether from the fleet manager, operational or even the owner of the company.
To help you in this management, I separated the part of an interview I did with André Machado, a tire specialist, with tickets at companies like Michelin and Bridgestone!

❓ Why pay attention to tires?
As you can see, tires can become the 2nd biggest cost in the company's fleet, when not given due attention.
This is the reality of 80% of companies that have fleets, according to tire specialist André Machado.
In fleet control, cost reduction is essential, together with increased vehicle productivity.
You, as a manager, understanding your operating costs and how much each tire weighs in the fleet budget, must manage and plan the best way to use the tires, with a view to increasing their useful life.
🚗 Tire life and quality
Tire life can change according to several variables.
An example is the routes used by the vehicle.
Tires that run longer on highways last longer than those that run in cities.
Another factor that greatly changes the useful life of tires is the driving mode.
Braking and sudden accelerations are examples of actions that shorten tire life.
In addition to influencing fuel consumption, aggressive driving greatly reduces tire life.

It is necessary to pay attention to the driving mode, not only for the sake of costs, but also for the driver's own safety.
Quality is also an important factor in terms of tire life.
In some cases, the cheap can be expensive. Therefore, I recommend that, before purchasing the tire, research the brand.
🛠 Preventive maintenance of tires
The preventive maintenance of the tires is what can most increase their useful life.
Just as an oil change is programmed, it is necessary to program the tire casters to reduce wear.
Fleet control and management software can help the company remember this maintenance, according to the vehicle's odometer.
