    My wife made an omelet this morning. Stuck to the pan like crazy. Soaked it and cleaned the old oil out of it. Just finished seasoning using your method above with lard. Cooked another omelet and it came out perfectly. Thanks for making my life healthier. No more Teflon skillets for me.

      Also fat is not "unhealthy". Just use as much as you need to cook. That's why food sticks. Because you people are neurotic.

    Just tried this seasoning approach on a cheap, thin, 10" SS skillet that food would stick to in a heartbeat. Applied 6 layers of a 1/3 grapeseed oil, 1/3 canola oil and 1/3 beeswax that was working well for my cast iron pans. I cooked scrambled eggs with just a pat of butter after warming and testing temp as u showed and there was absolutely NO sticking whatsoever! Eggs cooked perfectly and afterwards, just wiped pan clean with a paper towel and it's good to go! Can't thank u enough for posting this vid. I plan to invest in a higher-quality SS set and toss all my toxic nonstick pans now for good. Just awesome! Tks again!! 👍

    I’m a 79 female and in an effort to get away from Teflon and back to the stainless steel I used to use and loved, I just bought a beautiful new stainless steel pan with the type of bottom yours has. I knew that I read somewhere that I could make stainless steel nonstick. This is certainly simple enough to do whenever it needs done again, but tomorrow I’m going to do this . I wanted a stainless steel fry pan with a lid, a thick heavy clad
    bottom and expect with the extra handle on the opposite side because of my arthritis. I’m so happy I bought the stainless steel pan. I do love stainless steel and plan to enjoy it even more now that I know your method. So thank you.

    Hello! You're awesome and thanks for the great videos! I came here because I was curious to see how you season your pans. I've seen some good advice and bad. Yours is right on the mark! I can't help but comment on what you said about most of your followers being men and it's odd because...It's pretty simple really. Most chefs, as you know are men, and women probably don't usually look at your videos because they already know how to do these things. Guys won't ask for directions even when they're lost (Thank you Google maps!!) and they won't read instructions when they put something together until it's a complete mess. A woman can give her man advice till they're blue in the face but it won't click until their buddy tells them the same exact thing and they run home to share this amazing advice with their, now stunned, wife or girlfriend. Most women already know what you're teaching because they learned from their mom or grandma. Some never cooked or never had that sort of upbringing so they will look for cooking advice. These days it's different too. in the 1980s women started raising their boys to know how to cook, clean, wash clothes, etc and their girls to mow lawns, etc. The point was to make them both self-sufficient and independent adults. They became young adults and the girls ended up going to work and dads became stay-at-home dads (not all but it was extremely common) along with a lot of other gender changes that changed the rules entirely. Now that's a whole other book, lol. But you get the gist. Men are amazing cooks/chefs, the women in their lives love that (and if the guy is single he gets a lot of girls being a chef), while women have been taught through generations how to since it was always our place to "cook, clean and rais babies". I'm not a feminist or one of those, chicks. I'm just a lady speaking the truth.

    I'm 70 years old and cooked an omelet in a stainless steel pan without it sticking for the first time in my life! Thanks so much for the video. I don't know if it was the seasoning you describe, or getting the pan to the correct temperature as described elsewhere in the UA-cam Universe, but seasoning definitely helped. One caution though, when the oil starts smoking, it is also perilously close to catching on fire. So everyone, please pay attention to what's going on, else something's gonna burn and it ain't your omelet.

    I watched yesterday and did this today. Amazing, worked perfect. I made an omelet with no problems. All the years I have these great stainless skillets and buy Teflon that wears out and gets tossed.
    Thank you very much!

      *Congratulations Carol! You did the advanced version and had no problem. When I first learned how, I burnt the oil to the pan a couple of times. Ha ha Just make sure to treat it like cast-iron and don’t use soap when cleaning it. When things start to stick just let it soak in some warm water, until you can clean it with a sponge. I am trying to get the person cooking for their family and children to stop cooking on chemically coated pans like Teflon, so please share this video on social media, or to your friends that have stainless steel pans or cast-iron pans sitting in the cupboard, while they are using Teflon pans that have been scratched and the coating has chipped off. There is a very nice cast-iron seasoning video I made that can be seen at the end of this video, for people that use cast iron skillets. Thanks again Carol, I hope you like my channel enough to subscribe it really helps a lot!*

    I agree with you that more me are getting into cast iron and stainless steel. I'm a male, and a bunch of us at work, also men, discuss what we make with cast iron and stainless steel. I guess because of how rugged they are, it seems okay for men to use and appreciate them publicly, LOL. Also, for health reasons, I've replaced all my non-stick, i.e. teflon, pots and pans with only cast iron and stainless steel. Thanks for your videos; I've learned a lot about cooking as well as maintaining the pots and pots. Thank you.

Got it home, greased it up and popped it upside down in the oven 'til it was nice and black..... There's nothing better than a big Dutch Baby (soufle/german pancake) that's been baked in a proper cast iron pan! A little powdered sugar, squeeze of lemon... and I was popped right back to my childhood ♥

    Female viewer here- your stainless ways are the BOMB. Thanks sir. Great channel.
    I just got nickel free stainless steel which after some research I found most SS has the potential to leech nickel into our food if the SS becomes damaged from cooking or cleaning. Your seasoning then would prevent a lot of scratches that would allow that to happen which is good! Homichef has great nickel free SS and it's affordable on Amazon FYI

      A Gosnay Thank you! If you haven’t season stainless steel I have a beginners version of this in the playlist video at the end of this video, or you can click on the information card in the top right-hand corner of the video at any time.As far as stainless steel leaching nickel into the pans comment there are two sides to every story Teflon companies put out articles like that to get you to buy Teflon and not stainless steel. Once people see three or four articles on it because people spread it all over the Internet without really knowing it’s fact. I always research oh sides of the story. I drink diet soda and I lost 120 pounds as you can see in my before and after weight loss photos on my channel here. Two videos on that. So everybody says aspartame is bad. Makes them feel better about drinking chemically altered corn syrup. It was put out by the corn syrup companies.Aspartame companies put out bad things about the corn syrup companies to get you to buy aspartame as well. So I started them to research both sides of the coin and what I found with them as they are both bad for you. Well technically aspartame isn’t bad for you it’s just not good for you. Because aspartame is not recognized by the body has any type of nutrient so it automatically goes through your body. But I have seen pans like yours and they are really nice! Always glad to see a female on my channel! They always let me know on this video. The stainless steel videos and the easy recipes in the microwave and the toaster oven are where my female viewership comes from. I’m just really glad that you were not using Teflon! Thanks again for all your support, it really means a lot.

      Cast Iron Cooking Yea, Teflon is some bad stuff. I loved the beginners video and used that method-- thank you so much! I actually started researching fot nickel free SS after reading about it in groundwater. I then came across an article published by The National Center for Biotechnology Information and The U.S. National Library of Medicine research on tomato sauce a cooked in SS containing nickel showing a 21 fold increase in nickel and chromium when cooked in SS. When cooked without the presence of nickel the amounts of ni and ci remained the same. Out of the 4 sauces they tested all four had the similar levels after cooking in those pans, but zero changes in those levels when cooked with the nickel free SS so the material cooked in was the factor for this change. Food for thought. Delicious tomato sauce food for thought. For getting more pans than I needed and the nickel free utensils for $100 I figured it was well worth it.
      Cooking in the microwave or toaster oven? What has this country become 😢 just kidding! Those are art forms I have not perfected yet- I just have a stove and oven. Maybe I should check those out! Happy Cooking!!

    I never knew hat you need to, or could season stainless steel until I read about it on the internet. I have a pan where pretty much everything sticks , and I was going to throw it out a couple years ago, but still have it...I'm glad I didn't. Strange thing is I knew woks were seasoned, but I didn't think of applying it to pans, similar or same material most of the time

    • @CastIronCooking
      @CastIronCooking  7 років тому +1

      +Zoch Buppet yeah it's a lot easier when you season them because the food doesn't stick. Just don't put soap in it after you season it. It won't last as long as seasoning a cast iron skillet but it will last a good while. If you have already cooked in it then make sure to watch the stainless steel cleaning video with Bar Keepers Friend in the playlist and screen of this video. Thanks for watching and commenting! It will not stay forever like cast-iron so you will be doing it again down the road. So glad you’re not using Teflon coated pans! If you like cooking and cast-iron please subscribe you can also cook my dishes in stainless steel as well. I have a playlist for food I cook on stainless steel.

    • @CastIronCooking
      @CastIronCooking  6 років тому +1

      As long as you season it six times, and don’t cheat and you don’t use so after cooking and treat it like a cast-iron it should last a long time. You don’t have to do all six in one day. I never do but if you look at the seasoning video that pops up at the end of this video, and you have a cast iron skillet that will last forever if done the way I instruct. If you’ve never done it try the beginner version, click the little white i (information card) in the top right-hand corner the video to find it.

    Concerning the smoothness of the pan interior, you can wet sand them with “wet or dry “carborundum sandpaper. A good bit of elbow grease and some 400 grit then 600 grit norton sandpaper can turn your $50 budget clad pan into $250 performer.
    It will change the interior finish appearance to a random swirl pattern, but it works great. I nearly lost two beaten eggs testing the pan I just sanded. It was so nonstick that the eggs slid across the surface so well, they nearly “jumped the fence” . It is a $50 stainless clad wok. I used coconut oil to season it.

It is also in the information cards at the top right hand corner of the video while you are watching. Even with the beginners version I’ve burnt the oil to the pan, and made everything stick and it turned a little golden color. If you have burnt the oil to the pan already, there is a video in the playlist that will show you how to strip that oil off. If you don’t have access to this product it is in my Amazon store the link is in the description box as well. I used barkeepers friend powder form but I saw the premixed so you don’t have to make a paste. The first time I did it. Nobody taught me hell, I just experimented on my own. That’s how I know that six times is the magic number. The beginners version is also in the description box below the video. Did you see the seasoning video showing at the end of this video? Seasoning cast iron will last a lifetime if done properly and taken care of properly. Stainless steel only last about 12 times if you do it correctly and don’t use soap on it like cast-iron. When it starts to stick just let it soak for a little while.*

    I bought a new set of Stainless cookware a short time ago after reading that I could make it non-stick. After trying a bunch of different methods, failing over and over again, I ran across this video. I was led to believe that flax seed oil was the way to go on stainless as well as cast iron. I tried that multiple ways and wound with a first class mess and no non-stick. I also tried lard and coconut oil but the other videos failed to tell me what I really needed. This one does, and it points out that flax seed oil doesn't work on stainless and why. Follow these instructions and pay close attention to the end of the video where he says to repeat 7 times. I did, and while that takes a while, I have fried eggs sliding all over my SS pan. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I only wish I saw this one first.

      +Ken Brown I live for complements like These Ken! Thanks a lot! Yes there is a lot of false information out there on stainless steel and cast-iron. Stainless steel Never be seasoned with flaxseed oil. Only carbon steel pans and cast-iron pans because they have a more porous surface. Never go by what people say the proof is always in the pudding. My videos are the pudding. If you have social media like Facebook please share my seizing videos on stainless steel and cast-iron, so we can educate people and give them many happy years of cooking, and they can teach it to their children and their grandchildren. 👍😊

      Do you have any advice for us on what to do if for some reason I get just a couple of spots that do stick without destroying the non-stick surface? I tried frying an egg without any oil, stuck in a couple small spots. I tried water only, then I used a stainless scouring pad rubbing lightly, then I re-seasoned once. Seemed to work but these is probably a better way.

    • @CastIronCooking

      +Ken Brown I would’ve tried beginner version first, this one is advanced and it is harder to do. Also you always want to use butter or oil when you’re cooking in a pan.You can use nonstick spray since you seasoned that that will work. But if I were you I would use it up Until it sticks a lot, and start over with the barkeepers friend and the stainless steel cleaning Video, at the end of this video there is a playlist. If you have cast-iron I recommend it because the seasoning will last forever if done properly, like I so and my cast-iron seasoning Video. But since you already have stainless steel I would just work with that.

      +Ken Brown Lard works the best But that’ll work as well, Just make sure you don’t have those white deposits on the thumbnail photo of my cleaning video. Difference between the beginner and the advance is the process itself. You keep your eyes that I level with no distractions in the background, and as soon as you see the first hint of smoke yank it. If it is smoking then you waited too long, and very possibly if you wait too long you’ll see a yellow sticky parts. That means that you either did not put enough oil, or you let it smoke too long.Know how it turns out Ken!

      No you will season them six times in the beginning so you don’t have to season them again. It explains it in this video, but this is for advanced. Click on the playlist in the top right-hand corner of the video in the information card. Or at the end of the video on the end screen. Basically same instructions on how to do it in the beginning version but it is a different amount of oil you will use. I'm an Estate Sale junkie. I have quite a few vintage cast iron pans. I need to start selling the ones that I don't use to often. A few years ago I stopped at a sale that the family was doing, not a Estate Sale company. Anyway I had made a few piles of things that I wanted to buy including maybe 20 +/- old Revere Ware pans lids. I asked the lady there what I owed her for it. The pans were in one pile and other odd things were in other piles. For the other piles she wanted $10.00 for the pans she said $5.00. It was one of those couldn't get the money out quick enough moments. Now that I know how to season them I can get rid of my Non-Stick pans.

    I'm somewhat of an aficionado of cast iron, and I've been viewing various videos dealing with seasoning pans, but this is definitely the first time I've heard of seasoning stainless. I had always heard that cast iron needs to be seasoned in order to protect the pan from rust and to help it become stick-resistant, but I've never heard of seasoning a stainless pan. I was told that they don't need it because they don't rust. And if you can't see any blackening, is the seasoning really sticking? How does seasoning stainless change the cooking surface? Is it non-stick after seasoning?

    • @CastIronCooking
      @CastIronCooking  7 років тому +1

      +Berkana yes it will make it non-stick that is the only purpose of it. Eggs will slide around instead of sticking. It will not last forever like cast iron but you will get a lot of cooking out of it as long as you don't use soap to clean it afterwards the same as cast iron. If you like cast-iron Please Subscribe and also check out my last video on how to properly season a cast iron skillet. You don't want to see any black and then you just want to follow the instructions that I give. Also this is the advanced version I have a beginner's version for first timers as stated in the description box. If you have cooked on it before then you will need to watch the stainless steel cleaning video If you see the little white deposits in your pan like on the thumbnail photo of that video. There are a million different ways to season a cast iron pan. Some are good some are not. And all I can say is look at the mirror like finish on my cast iron pans if you want to get it that way that is the video to learn how to do it but you have to follow the instructions to the letter. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @CastIronCooking
      @CastIronCooking  7 років тому +4

      I never use soap on my stainless steel because the seasoning is not polymerized like it is on cast-iron. I treated the same way as cast-iron and rinse it out with warm water and sometimes things I’ll stick so I will soak it for a few minutes.

    Imagine I am following your tips after I have decided to use my long forgotten pan. The first time I use it, was a disaster and I packed it away until now. Thank you so much. My grandmother used clay pots a long time ago in Southern Africa 🤣🤣🤣.

      *Make sure to strip down anything that was burnt to the pan before doing this. I have a playlist in this video showing how to strip it down, it is at the very end and also in the information cards at the top right hand corner while watching. There is also the beginners version of this video. I do not recommend it unless you have done it before, I prefer lard that’s what you must use to get the same affect I do and season it six times. You don’t have to do it all in one day. I do imagine that scenario all the time, and that is why I broke from my cast iron skillet videos to make this stainless steel seasoning and cooking playlist. Clay pots! I bet her food was delicious! My grandmother made the best food, even better than my mom and my aunts!!*

    You really should be cooking with that lard as well. Food will taste better, come out crispier, and it's so much healthier.
