گلگت بلتستان کو قُدرت نے بےپناہ خوبصورتی اور قیمتی خورد و نوش سے نوازا ہے۔ خوبانی کا پھل بھی انہی نعمات میں سے ایک ہے جسکا ذائقہ، رنگت اور قدرتی اجزاء کے امتزاج میں کوئی ثانی نہیں۔ اس پھل کی کاشت 2000 سال قبل از مسیح چین میں ہوتی تھی اور شاہرا ہ ریشم کے راستے تاجر کے ہاتھوں جنوبی ایشیا، وسطی ایشیا اور باقی علاقوں تک پہنچا اور آج پوری دنیا میں اسکی کاشت کی جاتی تھی۔
پاکستان میں اسکی کاشت شمالی علاقہ جات میں کی جاتی ہے۔ گلگت بلتستان اپنے سرد پہاڑوں اور گلیشئر کی وجہ سے خوبانی کی کاشت کے لیے بہترین سرزمین مانی جاتی ہے۔ یہاں کا سرد موسم بہترین خوبانی پیدا کرتا ہے جو کہ نہ صرف ملکی ضروریات کو پورا کرتا ہے بلکہ اسے برآمدات میں بھی ایک درجہ حاصل ہے۔ گلگت بلتستان کا تقریباً ہر گھر 15خوبانی کے درخت کا مالک ہے.اور زیادہ تر لوگ اسکے خریدو فروخت سے زر مبادلہ کما تے ہیں۔ اور اسی وجہ سے اسے خوبانی کی سرزمین کہتےہیں
اسکی مختلف اقسام ہیں جن میں الماس، حبی، چتّی، گلہ(شینا زبان )خوبانی کافی مقدار میں کاشت کی جاتی ہے
