How can spraying starter fluid in the tube warp it? I don't get it? Doesn't make sense to me. Did you fill the tube up and let it freeze solid? Just spraying liquid in the tube should not warp a metal tube.
Greetings from a Holly hill hunter ,Mine did that follower sticking thing , had buffer from remington shells in the tube. If you get a shell that leaks buffer put it in the barrel or drip wax on it to seal it. Keep the outside of the tube clean and oiled with a good O ring on it, and make sure the gas holes are open.
I live in NC, and I love my 1100’s. I’ve got 5 (all pre 1980’s) from my grandpa and great grandpa. I’ve got an LT-20 Gauge, a 20 Gauge Magnum, an LW-28 Gauge, a 12 gauge, and an LT-20 Special Field. I find them far superior to the 1187, but different strokes for different folks. I use them for rabbit, duck, turkey, dove, quail and skeet. Great great guns
If you love that shotgun as much as you say then you would pay the $200 to get a mag tube replaced..... No two guns are the same, brother! Again, great video.
Remington recommends almost no oil on this weapon. Check out Brownells series on proper cleaning of the 1100 series. You will eventually have the same issue with the new one if you are spraying it down with lub especially WD 40 which gums up guns
I bought me a Remington 1187 12 gauge with the wood grain stock and forearm about 21 years ago and it came with the multi chock 28 inch barrel . I took it deer hunting that same week on Saturday and shot at two does that were only 25 yards and using 3 inch 00 buckshot which is what I always had shot over the years and I didn't cut one hair on either one of those deer . I couldn't believe it and I watched the buckshot kicking up dirt all over the place behind them all three shots I took and just couldn't believe I missed them deer so after catching my dogs I unloaded that gun to look at it as my granddaddy was driving up behind me laughing about it . I told him something was wrong with that gun as I started to look it over good and then I seen what was wrong I told him the chock was not strait and sure enough when Remington threaded that barrel for the chock tube it was not strait at all in fact it was in a downward angle and as I was shooting the deer that were running strait from me that's why the buck sot kept hitting the ground right behind them . I could of sot over them and hit them like that but after the third shot and I was shooting quick anyway because the were going into a head row that was more then a few miles long and had a canal ditch in the middle of it so I just let them go because I was already pissed anyway . I called Remington on Monday and told them what was wrong with it and why quality control didn't catch it but heck if I would have looked closer at it before going hunting with it I should have seen it to start with anyway they apologized and wanted me to take it back to the store and let them send it back and I was like I want to hunt with it now so I was hoping the store would just give me a barrel off a gun they had in stock but NOPE I would have to wait . I went to another store I had called because I wanted a 30 inch barrel anyway so when they told me they had it in stock I jumped into the truck and drove about 100 miles or so to get it and it only gets taken off when I clean it because that gun holds a pattern like nothing I have or have ever had and has killed more deer then the plague . I wouldn't think about taking another one of my shotguns deer hunting it hasn't let me down all these years one time believe it or not . Sorry this is so long guys . Be safe and enjoy hunting every time you get to go I am not and have not been able to hunt for some years now do to health issues so like I said never take it for granted when you get to go I sure do miss it bad. God Bless .
Was wondering about your 1187 glad to see you with another one. I know I have loved mine over the years and like you said when you get used to a certain gun it's just very easy to shoot and hard to adjust to a different one. Good luck in the skeet tournament coming up hope you and your dad do well. Really enjoy your videos, thanks.
The moral of this video was - don’t be lazy and clean your freaking gun no matter how many shells you’ve shot, matter of fact, clean your gun periodically even you haven’t shot it. PS and don’t forget to use proper solvent and lubricant
if something on the old gun is bent then a careful straighten will fix it along with a good clean. The engine start will not hurt it much as it evaporates quickly.
I like my 20 gauge 1187. Shoots hunting loads reliably. Only downside is that its heavy to haul around if you are doing a lot of walking. If I'm in heavy cover I use my 20 gauge 870 compact jr. It barely weighs 5 lbs and still shoots good. Also if it's raining I leave the 1187 at home and bring the benelli nova synthetic.
My parents bought mine new in 1985. Had it out Friday and noticed a chip in the wood butt stock. The location is were the stock connects to the receiver. I wonder is that the wood drying out?
I just found an 1187 Premier in dang near flawless shape at my local gun shop. Blued with nice wood. Still had little balls of styrofoam inside the receiver from the box. Very clean but lots of dust. It appears it was bought, shot a few times, wiped down and put in a safe. The O-ring looked new, silver sheen on it like a new one, but it was really hard. So I put a new one in, cleaned it up. Had a modified choke tube in it that had a cosmoline like sheen on it. Cleaned it and you could read the writing on the choke tube like it was brand new. The trigger group was extremely clean. No wear marks anywhere on the gun. I was giddy as a kid on Christmas morning taking it home. Made in August of 1988. Very happy with it!
I have always shot a Remington 870 that’s my go to shotgun this year I got me a 1187 love both of them some don’t like them they want them high dollar shotguns but I can stand right their with them with the old Remington
You could try a heat gun and a dowel or steel bar to straighten tube. But be very careful but should work if not try a small propane torch just where it's bent do not over heat.
I have an old 870 Wing Master that the mag tube was bent. My dad's friend fixed it. Remington considered my gun a throw - a - way. I have shot deer with slugs at over 100 yards since.
@Travis Thacker I agree - how do you bend a mag. tube - throw it against the wall , or drive over it ? I have seen a guy put a rifle on the roof of his car , and drive away. Lol
My buddy reloaded his bullets way too hot in his Remington 220 . Swelled case up wouldn't eject. Had to send it to Remington. They fixed it . But sent him a letter on how to reload and what grain to use. Lol
Love my versa max. Really reliable and I was surprised how it tames the recoil. You still feel it but it does make a difference. I took it to the sporting clays course and it really points good and cycles cheap rounds with a good pattern. When I broke it down to clean it I was surprised that it was hardly dirty.
@@peterreynolds9318 I am 13 and I can handle recoil but when it comes to 3 1/2 it kind of sucks but since it is a semi auto it is not bad. I like it a lot better than my old mossberg 500 I got lucky getting such a nice shotgun.
@@peterreynolds9318 u might not believe this but I got a brand new remington versa max from walmart in orangeburg for $250 because it was marked as broken. Runs flawless, nothing wrong at all. :)
BassBlowupstv I traded my versa max for a benelli super nova. The versamax is a bulky clunky gun. Mine wouldn’t pattern right. It shot all over the place. Definitely wasn’t a well balanced gun at all. Felt like the barrel was heavier then the receiver and stock. Making it feel top heavy. It wouldn’t chamber shells properly. Two shells would cycle into the chamber. Sometimes shells would spit out of the bottom of the receiver. My benelli is a beautiful gun! But everyone has their preferences. I’ll never buy another new Remington as long as I live. I grew up shooting my dads wing master. It’s a beautiful gun. But Remington is not a very good company anymore imo.
Try a Retay Sky King inertia-plus with cera-kote receiver and barrel. Has a 3.5 inch chamber and a push button removable trigger group. Also a removable steel ejector if it quits. I like the 26 inch barrel.
Pensel, you should do a comparison video in the quality of your old 1187 versus the new one you bought. Unless it got stolen during your break in that is.
This video came up again and I have an idea. Get you a can of that non-starter fluid and spray it and straighten that tube back up! 🤣🤣 It always sucks when we do things that screw up our guns. I have known that cold spray fluids can warp thin metal so I spray the rag and run that through the mag tube. Get a 12 ga cotton swab and cut a piece of cloth and run it down the tube over the swab. You just have to soak it with oil and keep brushing it and the recesses it sits it to clean it. Spray it out with a quick blast of brake cleaner and then with rem oil. Trying to remove and reinstall that c-clip is a pain. Them old Remington guns are fun to shoot!!!
The Remington magazine tube wasn’t the problem. The magazine has raised detent that needs to be polished down. There’s a special tool just for this job you can get from Brownell’s. The other option is to use a plastic follower from Scattergun Technologies. I’m sorry you had these issues. The 11-87 is the lightest recoiling shotgun I’ve ever had the pleasure to shoot. Last summer I went skeet shooting with a co-worker and they let me shoot their 1187.......needless to say I was so damn happy I went out and got one. Such a sweetie.
How do you know the mag tube is warped? Sounds like your dog legs for feeding are not in the correct slots, did you take the receiver apart? That mag tube would almost be impossible to warp , sounds like your plastic follower melted from the starter fluid, i am a gunsmith and seen all kinds of stuff , but its usually because people don't put parts back correctly that causes most problems , I would get a gunsmith to verify the warped mag tube , let him do a complete teardown of every part of the gun , clean it thoroughly , lube it, put in an aluminum follower and I bet it'll run like a brier goat , I've seen everything, stripped threads on a mag tube , dents on a mag tube because they were dropped while cleaning, but never heard of a warped mag tube , unless its made of plastic, just my 2 cents worth
You're right, starting fluid will melt certain types of plastic, if it has a plastic follower the starting fluid probably melted it and caused it not to ride in the tube right.
I agree with your comment, I’d be shocked if it was actually warped, it’s somewhat thick metal. But hey, maybe ol Pensel needed an excuse to buy a new shotgun! Can’t blame the guy lol
Where’s the Pro Sporting Walnut with a 26” and 28” version, extended chokes, and adjustable comb? My brother-in-law just bought just bought a used walnut yesterday that had all of these feature added, Except the relief to the loading gate. I HATE the Loading gate!!! We both pinched, scraped, cut and hurt our thumbs on this stupid Damn design!!! That said, This has got to be one of the best shooting Semi-Autos I’ve shot!!! The recoil feels less then a 20ga and we smashed the hell out of the some clays this morning at a local Sporting Clays event! Just an amazing gun, but Remington Needs to fix the Stupid loading gate design.

Do you still shoot your 1187?
No it was stolen last year
Thanks bro
Being a man of little means I would have found something the size of the mag tube and tapped it down the tube, maybe straightening it out a little.
Big p I know exactly what you mean I've got a Remington 30/06 742 woodsmaster everybody says it's a jamamatic but I can stop a deer no matter how far he is up to about 600 yard's
Do you still have the Mossberg?
Where is this accent? I think I know but don't wanna assume. Curious!
Orangeburg South Carolina
@@bigpenselsoutdoors9793 Winning! 🙌🏻
I get you. My I can shoulder my Mossberg lickety split. My eyes get messed up on other shotguns.
Whats a fronky?
I Would Spend The Money And Get The Shotgun Fixed
I would if the gun hadn’t been stolen like two years ago
Genius
Enjoyed the video. Sorry to hear about your gun. I'm also thinking about crow hunting. If I do it will be Orangeburg or St Mathews. What do you with them? I have no idea! Lol!!! Good luck with the skeet shoot.
Want to sell the old 1187
Love your videos
Actually won a 1100 competition last year. Adjustable butt pad and comb. Set it up to shoot high for Trap. Man I can bust them suckas. Never jams
Born on da Bayou.
I like your videos, I don't think a lot of your viewers thought that you wouldn't be without an 1187 meant to be. I always owned and 1100 myself👍
Dale Conley hard to beat a good shooting Remington
Last summer I went skeet shooting with a co-worker and they let me shoot their 1187.......needless to say I was so damn happy I went out and got one. Such a sweetie.
Best dog hunting gun made
Check Brownells gun parts. you may get parts cheap
I need 1 for parts
Got the 870 version of your 1187 always grab it over my other 4 12 ga
so you kept on shootin the leven aitair seven then?
I love my 1187
Itsah killah
I'll take it to my gunsmith at the end of every year
Taahh take it apart entirely and give it a better cleaning than he will. It’s easy and he wont do as good a job as you will.
