Btw, something the more experienced players may notice is that I don't mention wards. If you're experienced enough to notice that, then build wards! I think absolute beginners who are just learning how to build will have other things to focus on first and no one wards on low level games anyways.
This is super helpful for me, great structure and you explain stuff very well! I'm new to mobas in general, and even though I have been playing smite for a while I am still relatively unsure of what to build, especially when picking up a new god. I don't really like looking at pro builds bc I feel they're often very situational, so this video is giving me a core concept and some info on what not to do, thanks!
Thank you! Just as a general piece of advice: While pro builds DO include situational items and are sometimes being put together for specific play styles, GENERALLY speaking that's rarely a major issue in Smite. Most builds on pro level aim for maximum stat efficiency, so while there may sometimes be better situational options, those builds will rarely be completely bad for a situation, especially if they're consistently being used by multiple pros. The biggest outlier here are solo lane builds, where counter building is a lot more important. But then again, if you want to learn solo lane, you definitely have to invest some time into learning how to build relatively early.
I've played this game for 5 years and I've still had a little issue with some gods and some items, this video did help out tbh. But I mainly found this to send one of my friends who's new to smite so
Ive watched the video and I must say that Ive seen you do better guides. Plz take this as constructive critisism. I noticed you failed to mention the most easy and important aspect of item building: I think the first thing you should have done is to talk about relics, which you did, but explain why beads are the one an the most important relic in the game and why you should always build it on all squishy gods. Then talk about blessings. Then you should have explained for each class what is the most beneificial build no matter the meta and why. 1.Adcs works best when they have a decent amount of power combined with attackspeed. 2.Mages works best with power and pen. 3.Assassins works best with power and pen(except kali, arachne etc.). 4.Warriors works best with defence/hp and cooldowns. 5.Guardians works best with defence/hp. This is true for all roles since the release of smite. You could quickly mention that flat pen increase your overall damage against squishy and percentage helps you deal more damage to tanks. (Pen doesnt have to be difficult) Finally you could talk about exceptions (like Kali and Baka need hasten katana and attackspeed instead of power and pen). And that your allowed to build hybrid items(item that gives def/hp+ power) to mix up your build if you want more damage for warriors or more sustain for assassins.
I think a good video idea will be to make a recap on what roles do. The conquest map had updated quite a bit and often players like me want to STAY optimized. Going into mid season patch on console, it would be really great to know the updates routes and strats for each role. I also main jungle and Im in plat ranked, and I didnt even though this was a "farming" meta, as quoted by weak3n. I don't even know what that means!
A farming meta means you will prioritize farm from camps instead of ganking. So it's like waiting for all of the camps to be down after you clear them and then ganking until they come back up
I think I'll just entirely overhaul the Conq guide come midseason. This is the first time we have substantial Conq changes since S6 or so. That'll include pathing, meta etc.
Thank you very much. It is very useful for new players like me who comes from other Moba games (lol in my case). Sometimes turns to be frustrating when you are used to another shop and items (in lol there are 87 finished items or tier 3).
I played in a conquest and I had it on auto purchase items and it literally didn’t buy me one item the entire game and I couldn’t purchase one myself either so I had to go through a whole match with no items and I still went 12-4.It was very very embarrassing not having one item purchased and being level 20
This video helped me so much bro, thank you so much for making this, I was having trouble on what to choose to buy and my teammates would tell at me for either buying the wrong thing or just being trash in general so thnx for the vid you explained alot and really helped me. Keep up the good work
I'd be more inclined to blame the guy in my game today who upgraded 2 (bad) relics on Poseidon less than halfway through the build, but the comparison is a compliment to me nonetheless ;)
Meditations not too terrible in joust when everyone can get effects at the same time, but conquest (I mostly play joust) I can't imagine it being very worthwhile. Obviously, even in joust, if they have Anubis/Hades/Medusa, you're not grabbing medi lol
Been playing since beta up to Skadi release (can't remember which season was it) and just recently returned. For that whole time I've never learned to build, position correctly.... basically, play the game properly. Then again, never bothered to play ranked and haven't played conquest since season 1.
I'm on PS4 and I can get into the gear to customize but soon as I put starter in it just freezes and can only click triangle doesn't allow checking of box
Just what I needed! Duke can we get an advanced tutorial of some saught? Like positioning and when to poke and not to poke, when to dive and how hard to agress etc? Atm I'm trying to get into smite campaign but feel I'm being to aggressive or how I should be positioning myself etc
A lot of these things are kind of hard to put into a tutorial, because the advice here depends a lot on the players. For example, the definition of "hard aggressive plays" could differ greatly between a generally defensive or offensive player. I will see what I can do!
I'm on ps5 and I don't even know how to equip these items... I don't understand how to buy them... I can open the store in game that shows them, but from there everything is confusing
Has anyone joined the discord channel? Because of this video I would like to learn the fundamentals behind item building in Smite also. Is this discord channel the right place for me?
Duke, could you do a video on penetration. I'm curious about whether building "some" pen is worth it since more pen would benefit from increasing returns. Unless I'm misunderstanding how pen works, every 1 point of reduced protections is a greater percent damage increase than the last. So against a squishy target at level 20, with essentially 50 protections, 25 flat pen increases your damage to that target by 20 percent. 50 pen will increase damage by dealt by 50 percent. With the limit of 6 items, is the percent total damage increase from pen worth more than the amount of power (filtered though scaling and not increasing base damage dealt) that could be built within those item constraints?
I don't think you meantioned that 99% of the time, solo will build teleport. Probably intuitive for players from other mobas, but not as much for people who are new to the genre as a whole.
We've had quite a few metas and strats with Talaria/Traveler's instead of Teleport, even very recently in the SPL, so I don't really want to make that blanket statement.
A fair point, but that's high level stuff. For beginners, it's still a safe bet. Off the top of my head I don't think it's ever been wrong for solo to grab teleport. There have been slightly better options, but it's still core.
It mostly should be, yes. As my goal wasn't so much to talk about specific items, but rather general build constructs, this should remain relevant for a long time.
I'm waiting for these new players to stop playing ares in mid just because he's a popular God. They can build whatever they want and they'll still get whipped in mid as ares No hate to new players...just having frustrations with people who don't at least try to understand the roles before hopping into conquest
I'm more annoyed at the people who play modes like arena, build poorly, then get mad they aren't as effective as they should be and blame it on teammates. God forbid if you try to tell them what's wrong or correct them.
Ok, this is impossible to keep track of while playing or doing chores, can you be more specific on what roles need what items? I'm so confused I cant watch the video if it's just rambling...
1) Does nothing mid/late game 2) Antiheal exists 3) Takes up a relic slot you need for other things (shell, aegis, beads, blink) 4)Makes you look like the noobiest of noobs you can possibly be
Dist Raction already touched on some of the essential points: Antiheal is very accessible and cheap in Smite, meaning that Meditation gets weakened by it a lot. Additionally, Shell is basically a better version of Meditiation, especially after upgrading it. Especially squishy characters (so the ones that aren't tanky) also require other relics over Meditation, mostly Purification Beads and Aegis Amulet. It's the only way for many of them to avoid crowd control (for example being stunned) or high bursts of damage. New players tend to use Meditation as a crutch to offset their misplays, which also teaches you a very impractical playstyle. It teaches a poor understand of how aggressive/defensive you should play and also discourages an efficient use of health pots. So the sooner you rid yourself of Meditation as a staple in every build, the earlier you'll be able to significantly improve in your game awareness. That said, Meditation isn't inherently horrible on EVERYONE ALL THE TIME. There are outliers that can make effective use of it in specific situations. However, these outliers are so rare that it's hardly worth mentioning and especially not important for new players.
PRO TIP FOR BEGINNERS: never and I say never, and I can't say it enough, NEVER use the recommended items on the first page of the store. It doesn't make any sense. If you want some advice, go for popular items, and even that is sometimes broken
