I have to watch these sitcoms every once in a while to remind myself of how much hope we girls had for our futures back in the 70s. Sometimes it seems like two steps forward and one step back.
Sharon is Alice from Season 1 and 2. She was Rhoda's friend who worked in Joe's office as his assistant. She was the one whose husband, Eddie, left her and she also talked about he would come back to her. She had reddish color hair in those episodes.
Yes that's right! They seemed to do that a lot in 70s sitcoms (bringing back an actor as a day player in another role) I also remember her from playing Rodney Dangerfield's wife in "Easy Money" I always like Candy! She's funny.
she was way more forgiving than she should have been. and WAY more forgiving than any woman would be today! or even back then! there's women that would have pounded the hell out of him for the slap on the butt! and the way he talked to and about her. wooeee! lol
That kind of behavior was not acceptable then, nor at any time. Jack is a pig! Rhoda should not have accepted his apology or even gone back to that job. Bad episode.
She knew his character and that he was totally intimidated by his buddy and wanted show his buddy that he has it like that! I would have playes along then cussed him out after dinner!
Oh, that hideous wrist corsage. I guess white would never have occurred to him, or the florist for that matter. Larry is such a hilarious, obnoxious cliche. "So, ahh, this is whats-her-face (9:44)." Howard Witt, the actor playing Larry, is the same guy who walks out of Doyle Costumes wearing a fairy getup. Happens at the beginning of the "Rhoda Likes Mike" episode.
I saw where some said Jack was Mary's Lou. No way!!! Lou would never treat Mary like that, nor would he let his friends talk to her like these people did. Matter of fact Lou would have decked Jack and told those people off if he had been there at the table with this group. Rhoda and Lou were good friends. I wouldnt have expected this garbage from Jack either. I think the writers messed up on this one.
I loved disco. Even took disco dancing lessons to do the hustle. Loved the bus stop too! Earth, Wind and Fire, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, KC and The Sunshine Band, We Are Family, Disco Inferno...oh wow, still love it.
Jack was way out of line in this one. I know Brenda was just trying to help but she shouldn't have ever called. Rhoda was well within her right to expect an apology. She was doing him a favor and be treated her like that.... Uncalled for
I'll never understand why Rhoda is referred to as anything other than really really really pretty. Some of the jokes don't land because she is so attractive.
Jack was a real A-hole in this episode. He treated Rhoda like a piece of meat. That is not our Rhoda. The old Rhoda from MTM would never put on that horrible corsiage. Jack deserved a cake in his lap for treating her like that! I am glad they made up at the end! RIP Val.
The problem with Rhoda patting Jack on the backside is he, like lots of men, get a kick from it, instead of seeing it as an over-familiar, patronizing gesture, unless the pat-ee is fine with it.
It's such a treat to see Candice Azzara as the wife - Sharon. Candace is such wonderful character actor, and even here, with just a few lines, she can make them hysterical. I couldn't stop laughing (12:00) - she keeps reintroducing herself, and wants to know about...Pledge😘
The episode is horrible. Giving off a bad message. Sexual harassment should never be tolerated (even though it still does) and to have Rhoda go back to the very same man who sexually harassed her, embarassed her, and fired her for an off the job reaction to his harassment was in poor taste. Writers should have made Jack grovel at Rhoda’s feet not the other way around
I agree. While I don't think it was a horrible episode, I don't understand why she forgave him for the lies and the treatment and they goes off to dinner with him. But then again, she married Joe, and rejects decent people.
I hope they release all the unedited episodes with the rest when they release the entire series on Bluray disc. They went overboard with all that graffiti on the walls in the subway.
Not my favorite episode. I did love how Rhoda stood up for herself . Brenda should of stayed out of it. Rhoda should of confronted JACK at rhe office .
Sadly even for another past era… this show had steadily lost it’s moorings. All that brilliant talent with storyline’s that left, I would say, people confused, disappointed and a bit frustrated. If people want ordinary problems that aren’t reflected back in a comic uplifting way for a comedy sitcom… they would just look at their own and others life and not tune in. For all the upheaval with Joe … it seems to have lost it’s magic slightly, I don’t think this was a better solution and I miss the feel good factor. Valerie was such a leading light and had more to give if she had been granted room to spread her talent like Mary Taylor Moore was prompted to. Aaahhh the 70’s.
I could not stand the character of Jack! He was not funny! Had no redeeming characteristics. That's when the show started to go downhill. That's when I stopped watching.
Why is there a half-assed Irish "jig" playing whenever the show opens onto Doyle's Costume Shop? I know Jack Doyle is supposed to be of Irish heritage, but this is kind of cheesy, possibly racist, and may offend people of Irish descent. That is not me, so I was just wondering.

This process is generally called civility. I've come across people who's reactions are a direct unmeasured reflection of how they feel (unrelated to me).
