The best part of the 12-team playoff is that 8 teams is probably the right number so room was made for #9 and 3 stragglers. So 10-14 get to argue but who cares other then their fan bases. Realistically, these teams have flaws that make them incapable of winning the national championship anyway.

No, they didn't. That was Alabama getting treated like any other team and not getting special treatment because they were Alabama. TCU had one less loss and got their only loss in their confrence championship game that they lost by 3, after beating Kansas St. by 10 earlier in the season. Bama did not play in their confrence championship and already had 2 losses. It was entirely reasonable for TCU to make it in over Alabama at the time, and they won a playoff game over Michigan. More than you can say for Bama in 2023.

SMU has beaten NOBODY!! Take a look at their conference schedule. Their path to the conference championship is not the same as an SEC teams. Who you play matters!!

This argument works if your losses aren't to Kentucky, Vandy, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, and these teams never played out of confrence. Kentucky just got the doors beaten off of them by the 4th best ACC team, at home. Oklahoma barely beat a Houston team with 3 Big 12 wins. Florida got their shit pushed in by Miami. LSU lost to a USC team tied for 10th in the B10. Vandy beat a .500 Virginia Tech in overtime, that's at least something. Forgot Arkansas, who lost to Oklahoma St. and who wasn't won a single Big 12 game this year. Your path is so hard yet mid-bottom tier teams in these inferior confrences have no problem playing with or even beating these teams that Alabama and Ole Miss have lost to. IU and SMU may not have a great win like Georgia, but they've also handled their buisness and showed up week in and week out. Consistency actually matters.
