Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.
Such an enlightening talk by Swamiji! His oratory and story telling skills are highly commendable.
Truly when I first came upon him I was so totally fascinated with his oratory skills I would spend the whole time noting the perfect construction of the talk, the beautiful use of language, the lovely physicality, the way he would always tie everything up. And the deep well of knowledge he could call upon (highly highly intelligent person). But I was so fascinated with the talk itself I had to go back and take in the meaning on a second listen. I do think he is one of the greatest speakers in the US today, in any walk of life.

Wow, this guy is more articulate and knows more than like any other earthly/human spiritual master I listen to. I agreed with everything and learned a lot of new stuff too

Swami should talk more on bhakti. May be talk on lives of saints and bhaktas.
Swamiji displays remarkable patience with the attendee at 1:18:35 when the man appears to start a story and not ask the question. He distills the rambling on of the questioner and answers it brilliantly. Such poise and tolerance.

Simple way Bhakti yoga explained. It is always a pleasure to listen to your discourses.
The best thing not just about Swamiji but also all Advaitins is that they seldom criticize/refute any other faith/ideology/philosophy. On the contrary you will see Dvaitis and Vishishtadvaitis spending their most of the time refuting Advaita.
Actually Dwaits do it more than Vishishtadwaita
I feel very blessed to have been incarnated during this period in history, knowledge is so readily available and it’s a great gift to be able to learn from such knowledgeable beings as Swami Sarvapriyananda. Let us use whatever knowledge we acquire with with deep wisdom. Peace ❤️

This is an excellent lecture on bhakti yoga. The revered swamiji takes pains to explain with ease and commitment how Bhakti yoga is relatively easy to realize god. Quoting the 79th suthra of Narada bhakti sutra, swamiji clearly expounds Sarvada (at all times), Sarva bhavena (in all the ways), Nischintehi (without any anxiety) worship the lord. This is the key of this entire lecture. We are beholden to you Swamiji.

Swamiji's discourses are very enlightening with simple explanations to touch hearts of saadhaks. Though late to watch his discourses, I feel I am happy be here now on. Gurubhyonnamah
We need tough guys on our side too,😂😆that is why the outward rituals of worship, i.e blowing conch, offering flowers, chanting verses..etc..for focus, otherwise the mantra gets thrown away by the tough guys of the mind...so humourous yet so profound..thank you Swamiji 🙏

I would love to hear more on "Para-Bhakti" as Vivekananda discusses it in the second half of 'The Secret of Bhakti Yoga'.

So when a man has this love in him, he becomes eternally blessed, eternally happy; this blessed madness of divine love alone can cure for ever the disease of the world that is in us. With desire, selfishness has vanished. He has drawn near to God, he has thrown off all those vain desires of which he was full before."

I’m am trying to start on my journey with Vedanta and I am finding it hard like swami said to know how to start practicing and find the right path. I am a young adult in my 20s I’ve been so interested for so long but I just can’t seem to understand enough to begin to practice. I love to watch these lectures and I hope I will find a way soon. If anyone on this comments could give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for everything you do. I continue to be inspired

When one is brahma, whom does he worship? Bhakti for whom ?
I feel, devotion / Bhakti yogA is not an alternate way to achieve Moksha. It is a necessary step prior to JnAna yogA. Whole subject can't be discussed as Bhakti versus JnAnA, but as Bhakti and JnAnA to get MokshA.

In my experience, I found Bhakti yoga more impactful and meaningful when I kind of understood Jnana yoga first.
Bhakti yog can alone lead one to moksha, so can jnana yog. They are complimentary.

While Swamiji makes spirituality so accessible, he is so accepting of one’s spiritual practice wherever they are, whomever they are. Even if one is confused, he has a way of making one feel it’s ok. He gives you the feeling that as long as you’re sincerely practicing with good intentions, you’re doing it right. The more I hear his lectures, the more I feel he’s reading my mind and talking directly to me.
That’s Sanatan dharma universal religion aka Hinduism per the invaders that started calling us “ hindu “

Yes. Spirituaity encompasses all regardless of religious beliefs. It is a way of life whereby thoughts, words and deeds that are bad will lead to negativity and positivity yields good results over time. Anyone can follow these principles and reach enlightenment.

Four fold Qualifications:
1. Viveka(Discernment between what is real and what is unreal)
2. Vairagya (Dispassion for what is not real)
3. 6 fold treasure (Sama-Equanimity in all, Dama- Controlling the Senses , Uparati- Cessation of Desire, Samadhana-Concentraion of mind, Titiksha: Endurance and Tolerance, Sraddha-Faith)
4. Mumukhatva (Deep desire to be Free)
It's 'Shama' and not 'Ksama'. Shama means quietening the mind.

Wow u just gave me much clarity ,I choose bhakti for now I have been stuck between the two paths for a year ,no one in Ohio can explain the difference ,I'm generally stuck between Eastern philosophy friends and Christian friends ,I knew both had its benefits but I thought maybe one had to be right or wrong for some reason, my close friends are on the path of vedanta where I'm more in the middle because I still have a child ,girlfriend,job,I smoke marijuana I just haven't completely got rid of my sense of "I".I a. Only 26 years old new to the spirit path ....my friends I don't believe have renounced their worldliness enough for the vedanta path either,,thank you God bless🙏
