Great vid and playing as usual! Metro Express sounds compressed with a high-mid focus. MetroLine has more lows and punch. This video reminds me of the frustration I have with 34 inch scale B strings- more pronounced dead/hot spots. Maybe a (multi-scale) Dingwall is the way to go with 5s (?)
When both pickups work, the ME has more P feel, and ML sounds like a real PJ bass. I wonder if those pickups have been set to the same height on two basses.
Hi, we tested them at the Thomann store. The instruments are fresh out of the box as a customer would receive them when purchasing. They therefore do not have the same strings. This does not make the comparison 100% fair, but it is important for us to show what you get when you order one of the basses without any upgrades. Comparing them with the same strings is for another video ;)
Two different couples of pickups, two different sounds! Metroline is better because has more low-end and cuts better the mix. Missing the Jazz sound...
You can hear the J-single coil jazz sound in the disco funk groove. Also there will be a comparison of the JJ models soon. The new MetroExpress with roasted maple necks just weren't available at the time.
Different bass string use could make different result too ..... Sadowsky string on Metro line ; EXL ( maybe ) on Metro Express. To be fair, same string for both.

Thank you for this great comparison. The metroline to me sounds more fuller. Maybe the strings make a difference...
Thanks for your awesome sound demos! Could you maybe make one of the new Metroexpress Vintage MJ Bass. That would help a lot!

ME sounds closest to the typical pj. It has that nasal sound to it which is aparent on all PJ. The ML sounds more refined and sits well the mix.
Do they both have the same strings on?

I like the sound of the MetroExpress B string better

The Metroline is rounder and more equal, the Exp has more edge.
👍
I think whoever recorded/edited this made a mistake. All the Metro Express sound clips that say Both Pickups sound like the Neck Pickup soloed
Sorry to disappoint you, I made this video and I didn't make a mistake.
