I bought a new 2 and 3 and I really love them. The three has a great humbucker bite and the 2 is great for funk and rhythm.
So glad to see you back! I hope you’re doing very well!
Welcome back, really missed your videos and enjoying your pickups a lot.
Wow! Those sound really fantastic!!
Hey thanks for opening this up and recording it. I will atempt to switch the bridge pickup with a humbucker and i feel more confident seeing the insides before i open it.
Hi! Nice to see your videos over here again. Would be interesting a ThroBak version of Lace Sensors! Cheers and keep up that great work you do!
Whoa, I didn't know you could add a jumper wire to pickups like that. Nice trick!
Nice pickups and interesting video. I always enjoy seeing what manufacturers get up to under the scratch plates and in control cavities. I was quite surprised at the fragile looking switches, they look so robust from the top. It would be interesting to know if Fender used a common body rout for the original Lead one and two guitars. I remember playing an original Lead Two and it was very heavy, Fender seemed to get a whole lot of very dense maple in the CBS era.
Welcome back Jon!! Now I need a Lead II !!....and some ThroBak FL-II MXV's~
Good to see the videos again.
The pickups in the lead 2 look like Strat pickups, is there any difference between the Lead 2 and Strat bobbin?
I thought a replacement Lead 2 pickup would be more 50's like if it were wound with formvar wire?
Of course the enamel wire pickups have a lot of fans too, namely Eric Clapton.
The Lead II covers and bobbins are the Strat design. My first prototype version of the FL-II MXV was wound with Formvar. But when I A/B’ed them against Plain Enamel wire the Plain Enamel won. The guitar just sounded fatter with a smoother attack with Plain Enamel. The hardtail bridge and slightly smaller body of the Lead II I think makes it a tad brighter than the typical Strat.
Wow big difference! Looking at buying a Lead II so this is a useful tutorial and demo of your pups. I like that you get a hardtail TeleStrat crossover in the Lead II, but as you say the jangly might be too much without a pickup swap.
Please post a video about your DS-55
YES.
how do your pups compare to the Lead's original x1 pickup. I had a 80, and sadly sold it off in a moment of ignorance. I I have the Lead 2 player series currently...can I recapture my lost youth?
