He has a gentle voice. I don’t really want to bring up Steve Harrington here, but being gentle is exactly the charisma Joe Keery brought to this character, making Steve from a cheesy jerk to a likable human being. I don’t think I have ever heard this song, but this feels so deja vu
The deja vu must've come from the sorta old school sounds in most part of the song I guess. His voice also helps with that I think, it's pretty smoothened out into the instrumental, quite gentle just as you said. McCartney-like almost, but I think Tentpole Shangrila highlights that aspect even more. :) But yeah I get what you mean, I got some "familiar vibes" from this song first time I heard it too and thought I already knew it.
