The musicianship is amazingly sophisticated.
That's the reason that they became the biggest band forever.
You're hearing the beautiful voice of Paul McCartney
The Beatles are better known for how they changed music since Rubber Soul and Revolver, but even their early music, like this song, was also different than other groups. They were always brilliant and better than the rest, even their covers in the first albums are better than the originals.
An uncle told me a few years back he saw a Beatles cover band in Mexico City who just did the early rock n roll stuff like Twist & Shout etc. Said it packed a club 5 nights a week! He was blown away
They can't beat Shirley Jones with this song.
Such a pretty song! "Till There Was You" is a show tune written by Meredith Willson & used in "The Music Man" play in 1957 & later in the 1962 musical movie. The Beatles recorded it in 1963 & released it on their 2nd album.
I'm glad you explained that. It was a song that needed to be reproduced. Lovely!
Written in 1957.
This is an old pre Beatles standard ,,Very often rock bands back then played a a "slowey" every so often so the kids could dance cheek to cheek ,
I used to play this A LOT back when I was learning guitar as a teenager. It’s just beautiful.
Perhaps one of George's most tasteful and well-constructed guitar parts.
Beatles GOAT
“Pure and simple” describes it best. The lyrics are pretty, you can hear the words, the guitar, and and a clear voice that’s on key. It’s a “little gem,” and like you said, we are able to appreciate it in the same way the star-struck lover has his eyes and ears open to the beauty of the nature that surrounds him.
I'm a big fan of the Beatles. I've never heard of this song, and it's beautiful very impressive.
You ought to check out their earlier material. There are some great little gems, even in their earlier stuff.
Their early songs actually transformed music forever. It was very different and seemed to be extra terrestrial.
This is an old song from the fifties that they covered. It’s so pretty and romantic!
Listen to "This Boy"!!!
I love so many Beatles songs; however, I could listen to this one all day long. Just beautiful. Simple and brilliant. Paul singing a ballad is magic.
Paul sang this song as well as Oh! Darling - such a range of vocals. Have a wonderful Memorial Day Michael.
His vocal range is superior to Freddie Mercury.
I really enjoyed that. Brought back memories.
One of my favourite Beatles songs, beautiful vocal, haven't heard it for ages but will be listening to it more after this. Glad you like it. Lots of love x
This was also performed at the Beatles’ Decca Records audition on January 1, 1962, which they did not pass! It had two guitar solos by George.
They have a great live performance of this on The Ed Sullivan Show.
And I Love Her is another great Paul song written for Jane Asher.
The Beatles were fans of show tunes and Paul McCartney does a great job on this one.
He never SOAR them at all. That’s how he pronounced SAW for some reason.
This is one of my favorites from that album, Paul McCartney's vocals are just so smooth, and I think the guitar was George acoustic, with the bongos.
Supposedly the Beatles’ arrangement was inspired by Peggy Lee’s version of the song.
This is a old song. Way before the Beatles.
It dates from the same year John and Paul met.
Nice, very nice! Enjoy the outdoors Michael 😀
That's a great tune!
I was listening to this in the car on the way from work, opened up My UA-cam when I got home, and you were listening to it too. What were the odds?
I’m a fan of the beatles since i was young especially the original James Paul Mccartney he is very cute and always smiling❤❤❤
Haven't heard that for years! Thank you for sharing 😊❤
Thanks I forgot how much I loved this song
I saw that someone else said this song was used in The Music Man. You should listen to it in the movie, actually watch the entire movie and then you'll see the meaning of the song in that context. I won't give it away!
Memories 😊😊
You gotta hear them do this live at the Royal Albert Hall.
This came from a film called The Music Man ......not a Beatles compostion ....a cover version
George Harrison did the lead on that song and John Lennon was doing the rhythm guitar and Paul McCartney played the bass
You know what you could do? Compare the songs The Beatles covered in their first albums to the originals. One song (two versions, original and Beatles cover) per video. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a reaction video.
Why do you keep a jar of MAYONNAISE on the back of the couch?????
The Beatles covering a show tune. On most Beatle fans short list of least favorite Beatle songs. I mean I like it but it's not in my top 200 Beatle songs. They did this on the American debut in 1964 of the Ed Sullivan Show and it was on their American Capitol Records debut album, Meet the Beatles. I think to woo the old folks.
Watch the video of Shirley Jones (the Partridge family mom) singing this in The Music Man If you want to see how the Beatles turned this song from boring to beautiful.
Shirley Jones's version was far more beautiful.
@@fredbloggs6080 It wasn't until years later that I first saw The Music Man and realized this was a cover version. (I was 10 when Meet the Beatles came out). Perhaps because I only knew it from their cover, I was not enthusiastic about Ms Jones's slow and near operatic rendition.
I never understood the Sophie Tucker remark from Paul when they were singing this live, just in the intro. Anyone know?
Dude! What’s with the jar of mayonnaise behind you? 😂😂😂
Here's the scene from the movie The Music Man with Shirley Jones singing "Till There Was You":

This is a cover? Whenever The Beatles covered a song it could be argued that they did it better than the original.
Why is that mayonnaise STILL behind your head on the couch??
No real beatles fan would be a Trump supporter.
The beatles were about inclusion, not division.
You need to stick with kid rock mate
You are just repeating BS tropes.
Kid Rock is a Trump supporter!
You could say the same about Biden. Truth is whichever propaganda you subscribe to has nothing to do with your musical tastes and to say who or why someone can or can't be a real fan is itself about exclusion and not inclusion. It's a narrow minded, elitist, and authoritarian kind of attitude.
@bradparnell614 I agree what I said was hypocritical, but seriously, it's not even about politics or propaganda. Trump is a convicted fraud, rapist and most likely only cares about himself. I don't give a damn about politics, Biden, the left, the right. I'm just utterly confused and shocked that anyone with a brain would back him as a human being
