That's not the problem. The problem is it irks me psychologically to have wasted time on a book and not finish it. If I finish it I can at least roast it and mention all the problems.
I'm also in my DNF era and I kinda love it. Like Ive gotten to the point that if I feel its not gonna be a 4 star Im just gonna put it down (unless its so bad its fun). Actually sold my BB editions of Promise of Blood because I read 3 chapters and went "oh no, this is not for me at all."
I ‘ve a TBR for you: “Crypt of the Moon Spider.” It’s short and well-written and has a lot of fascinating bits to ponder. And, a sequel is coming. You’re welcome.
I've encountered some books for whom time spent in the DMV line is better than time spent reading that book. Let alone time spent eating breakfast cereal in the late afternoon: definitely better than some of the books. After you read enough books (different time periods, different styles) you just *know* when someone is incompetent or on the wrong track- you just know you don't need to hear the whole thing.
When you mentioned DNFing Illborn, I was like, 'Oh, I think I read maybe two pages before ditching it,' and then you said you also read only about two pages. 😂 I end up DNFing almost 50% of the books I start because I’m such a heavy mood reader and love trying out new authors and genres. Some books I come back to when the mood fits, but most I don’t.
I wonder if that really counts as a DNF? Sometimes you're charmed by the idea of the story, but you read a few pages and think to yourself, "wow, this is gonna suck" because the writing or tone is really rubbing you the wrong way and there's no way it'll be better later. So you just have to toss it.
@@black-aliss yeah, you're right. I only mentioned it because of the video. I only track books when I at least read like 30-40 pages and had the intent of finishing it.
Yeesssssss welcome to the freedom that is regularly dnf-ing!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I read Crown of Cold Silver or whatever and struggles through it then quickly dnf-ed the second book lol
DNFing is the best and one of the best tools to avoid burnout, imo. I have 180 recorded DNFs on Goodreads, and apparently 57 I remembered to mark as picked up in 2024. I think I normally DNF ~11% of what I pick up? I thought maybe last year was unusually high, but it looks like it was still just 11.7% (but I read a high volume and very quickly, so I'm quite willing to take a chance on a book and less precious about how much I think I might like it)
For me dnf’ing a book depends on my reason for reading it. If I’m reading for enjoyment, then I stop when I’m not enjoying it. If I’m reading for a buddy read, then I stop when my buddy is cool with me dropping out. 🤷♀️
Great video, very fun XD I also don't understand the hype over 'When the moon hatched"?? I read the whole thing, got to the end and questioned why I read this book. It was so confusing and fell in to a boring amnesia with ridiculous prose that made no sense.
Welcome to DNFing! I'm a lot older than you and I've been DNFing for years and it's glorious and it's freeing. And An Education in Malice is a loose retelling of Carmilla. I also did not like that book and I DNFed it. And I just want to say, how do books like When the Moon Hatched even get published? Like, what editor says, "Yeah!" What agent says, "Oh, I believe so much in this book!!!" Right? I don't get it. DNFed that one, too.
I might be mistaken but I think WtMH was self pubbed and then picked up by a publisher when it went viral and at that point I don’t really blame the publisher, people are reading it the way it is and loving it why do more work, it’s the readers that didn’t notice that I worry about
Curious..... did you ever start reading a book, and it was horrible in the beginning, but you pushed through and to your surprise it was actually good??..🧐
It’s very empowering to DNF a book, show, or game. We are not obligated to read something we don’t like. That’s what I preach on my channel all the time!
Can u do a fancy dress award for rings of power for the men of course. Just watch a 5 hour random review and it hit me u and the wheel of time chick could do it. Happy new year cheers
DNFing is absolutely self care! 💕
Life is too short not to DNF a bad book or video game.

lol yeah better to let someone else enjoy those pretty books

My personal "best" was DNFing at 81% 😅
I should have stopped earlier but it was an Ishiguro book and I kept convincing myself it had to get better

Promise of Blood was one of my worst reads a couple years ago 😩 I wish I had just dnf’d it
So glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t love it lol
I can relate to this . There are terrible books , 50 shades of grey type where you know everything on page one and the rest is tortuous affirmation .
Top 11 books with good titles and nothing else

Time you could have spent reading First Law

Very glad I didn’t finish it lol
I will honestly be shocked if no AI tools were used in the writing of When the Moon Hatched
(I DNFd the free excerpt online)
Yay for DN…effing! But, I must admit, I’m gonna miss your rants. Good god you do make me laugh.
Never fear, I’ll finish a book if there’s a video in it 😜

I actually tried when the moon hatched- and I DNF it about 15 pages in- I was so annoyed at the writing so I’m glad it’s not just me 😂
The writing is ridiculously bad lol
Curious..... did you ever start reading a book, and it was horrible in the beginning, but you pushed through and to your surprise it was actually good??..🧐
I think I’ve disliked a book to start and then changed my mind but no I don’t think I’ve ever hated a book at first and then changed my mind
dnf is my life.
2024 I read perpahs 50 books but finished only 1 or maybe 2.
With that ratio why even read?
Well that is actually sad. Maybe work on you attention span.

But..
Still not worth it to read bad books

I can't take book reviews seriously when they use Abercrombie as a marker of good quality.
I can’t take a comment seriously when they use bad AI as a their avatar in an attempt to look cool

Abercrombie is solid but good is giving too much merit.
