    I have an HD-28 (with the herringbone binding) that I bought after becoming a fan of your channel (but for other reasons, lol, not because of being a Dave fan, though I was and remain!) And I bought the ridiculously expensive Allen wrench from Martin so that I can adjust my truss rod. You've taught me and many others the basics like that, and I thank you for it! Thumbs up!
    On the eye issues, good luck man. I've had eyes that generally got worse and worse over time, but some time post-56, my prescriptions started getting fewer diopters, which the ophthalmologist said is not uncommon. But of course, the astigmatism and presbyopia that comes to those of us of a certain age continue apace.

    Pssst. Hey Dave. Something I learned working in a power plant. That isn't steam that you see. Steam is invisible. What everyone calls steam is the condensate that appears when the steam drops in temperature and is no longer steam. :)

    Glaucoma is not a joke. You can lose your vision completely. You have to see a glaucoma specialist, not a regular eye doctor from now on. Unfortunately there's really no symptoms other than If your vision looks like you see rainbows that means your eye pressure is high. Be faithful with the eye drops. BTW glaucoma is hereditary so have your kids checked as well from now on.

    My Martin was in for a neck reset after only 5 years. I will say Martin stepped up and did it on their dime. It had a very high action when I bought it new and had to cut the saddle down a lot. After five years it got down to where I had no break over angle on the strings.

    Dave, my Wife has Glaucoma in both eyes and has had some laser surgery done. It is checked six-monthly and she has eye drops. For about 5 years now, it hasn't got any worse, so if you get this done, you should benefit from it. I have just had Cataracts removed and have reasonably good distance vision now, but need reading glasses for up close. Best of luck with your eyes.

    My Mom lost her sight because of that G word. She didn't even know she was blind in one eye, then it was all about keeping it from spreading to the other eye. Go see a specialist. Your eyes are worth it. Smoking some pot helps reduce the eye pressure, so I would smoke a lot. Take care Dave.

    Dave, when you say (paraphrasing) that all but the most beefy acoustic guitars like a Guild pull up their bridge over time, would you put a Gibson J-200 in that category? Sound-wise that’s been one of my consistent favorite models (Greg Lake, Pete Townshend) but I would hold out for an acoustic that’s not hellbent on turning itself to toothpicks.

    Hi Dave love the channel , wee question, we don’t use inches here in the uk we use millimetres, for string height from the 12th fret my gauge shows 2 -2.5 millimetres I’m wondering if that’s right and is that from fret wire to the under side of the string? Oh and it’s a bass lol

    Hi, Dave, I have an epiphone with a tune-o-matic bridge. I have one string that's buzzing all the way down the neck. I changed the string and it improved slightly but it's still buzzing. I just moved up a gauge in strings and I re-adjusted the truss rod and bridge. I'm still getting the buzzing on that one string (the A string). Any suggestions?

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 5 років тому

      What string? Try to isolate where the string buzz occurs. Is it at the bridge, somewhere on the fretboard or near the nut and headstock.
      Without knowing that, you can't sort the problem out. From what you say I'd guess you have an upper fretboard hump or else some break angle or hardware issues at the bridge saddles. There's also a small chance your pickups are way too close to he stings but that's doubtful.
      Hope it helps.
