Done this to my 9n3 today, great little mod! Would love to connect it to my stereo for data tho, do you know what part of the loom is for data, or how I can connect that up? Cheers.
Hiya mate, great stuff they’re really convenient aren’t they. So just from looking at the loom i could see that on the little plugs that connect to the back of the ports (the two smallest connectors in the kit) there was four holes for wires, but only three were filled, i reckon the three being illumination, ground and power. If you hacked up a normal usb lead and figured out which cable carried the data, i reckon you could splice the two together and effectively pin-in the data connection into this kit. Hope this clears up what i said.
@@tomharvey How you doing? Never had time to connect the data port to the stereo in the end, found out which wire was responsible for data connection, just never found time to actually go through with wiring it up. Ended up buying another USB port for a different car, which was made to be plugged into the stereo, swapped the cables around. Only costed £10 on AliExpress, for both the ports, and saved me the time of trying to wire it up myself.
@@calumhayward yeah not too bad mate, yourself? and yeah that definitely sounds easier, considered doing that meself but i quite like the stealth “out the back” cable run, ive ran it into the storage tray bit under the steering wheel where i pop my phone, the usb port in this vid is ideal for passengers tho imo 👍
Is there any chance you’d be able to wire it up to the head unit so you can have car play to work while plugged in instead of wiring it to the cigarette port?
A1: i'm not too sure mate, theres probably a spec sheet on one of the alixepress listings which would clear all that up, seemed to charge my phone quite fast though! A2: No, its an ignition live. Cheers!
Great stuff Tom definitely needed, any chance you could do a video on how u added the screen car play and where I could get one much appreciated thanks
Hiya mate, they’re just from a polo 6R SEL spec. The actual knobs themselves are a straight swap into a 9n/3, just pull out. Just make sure to also transfer the clear plastic piece from the 6R ones, as the 9n one leaves them feeling pretty tight. The headlight switch is a straight swap though, plug and play.

Tom mate I have dummy switches in those ports I’ve found a generic on off switch. I want to install that switch so that my interior LEDs turn on and off with that switch have you got an idea how to do that mate?
sorry mate i dont quite understand, i’m taking it as you’ve got interior LEDS which aren’t part of the factory sunvisor/ switchboard setup. i’d just run it off of a piggyback fuse from the fusebox, use a local ground wherever’s convenient, then just run the live wire through the switch so it switches on/ off
Im waiting for mine to be delivered. But ill be deleting the cigarette lighter and replacing it with a usb/aux extention socket with the usb connected into the stereos android auto lead. So to plug in aux or android auto ill essentially be plugging my phone into the cig lighter :') hoping it looks ok but for the ali express prices its worth a shot
maybe a dab of super glue if you’re not fussed about removing it often? should be able to snap the glue fairly easily if you do ever need to. another option is to wrap the ends in some electrical tape to thicken it up then ram it into place.
Watching all the way from South Africa. loving your channel, i recently started building my 9N3. Hopefully you'll keep posting more videos about mods

Great video, what kind of radio did you install?
i believe it was a pioneer sph-da120 at the time of filming

mines a pioneer sph-da120, the install is stupidly easy tho, just get a halfords adapter harness and it slots right in.
@tomharvey how did you get the OG radio out. Buggered if mine will just pop out as I'm told it should!
just grabbed a set of cheap radio keys off of ebay, mine came straight out, just make sure to insert the keys all the way in 👍

Not a clue, sorry lad
Hello, are the cables included or I have to get them elsewhere?
Thanks

How can you connect the usb port from Pioneer radio to this button dash? Thanks in advacned

I have a question, is the cigarette port removed?
no mate, it is simply splitting power from it
