This video contains the national anthems of Italy, France, Canada, United Kingdom (Britain), Germany, Spain, Russia and the United States of America.
Beethoven remarked when hearing God save the King - it wasn’t called that then - that it was an interesting melody that he might do something with. He then wrote 7 variations on the melody and said he wanted to show the British what a blessing to have that melody as their anthem.
I believe it was Hyden
Unless you are talking about Wellington's Victory
What was it called
@@Alex-bq2vs It’s spelt Haydn and no. It was Beethoven. Here’s the variations. They’re very nice but then they were written by Beethoven.
ua-cam.com/video/NOds7jLtXnI/v-deo.html
@@Alex-bq2vs No, Joseph Haydn composed the German national anthem.
Very easy ones to start with, I'll have a look at the other anthem-quizzes.
The DB Regio train in Germany's bit killed me. 😆
Can I tell most of them by the anthem? No
Can I guess most of them by the pictures? Yes
(specifically for the German one, while obviously the nationalism being unwanted is a big part of it too, it also uses the old German borders so for obvious reasons... you wouldn't really want to sing that part unless you're trying to start a war lol)
also, you can see a snapshot of the Brandenburg in there somewhere

0:22 ITALY MY COUNTRY!!!
What I got right: France, Canada, U. K., Germany, Spain, Russia & U. S. A.
What I missed: Italy.
It's a fun game, though. I like listening to other national anthems. Kinda makes me miss the Olympics, though.
It was already showing you famous Italian places (:
I got all of them within the first 5 seconds
Very iconic and well-known anthems. Probably a bit easy.
And the places shown were famous places too, too easy
All but Spain I knew
These were easy and very memorable. All very beautiful and famous anthems!
I got all of those right, plus I knew that Liechtenstein has the same tune as the UK and Russia has the same tune that was used for the Soviet Union. 😊
Russia is a slightly shrunken ussr but otherwise it’s the same still
Also, Finland and Estonia
@@Cassxowary Estonia has a faster rhythm though, and seems more energetic, whereas the Finnish is slower, more majestic.
Beautiful scenery. I know lots of anthems so pretty easy, but absolutely love the video!
For the fourth one (the United Kingdom anthem) you could have also correctly guessed Liechtenstein (it's the same). 🙂
I think Liechtenstein has a different bassline
I guessed Listenbourg (sorry guys xD)
Could also have been Imperial Germany :"Heil dir im Siegeskranz"
It did say that in the description.
I knew all of these, even automaticaly sang along with some of them.
Can you sing them in the counties language?
@@michaelsims1160 i spent a lot of time listening to anthems in my younger years. Even for the languages i don't speak i at least know sorta how the words go.
@@nilsjansson1650 how old are you?
@@kokeiz in the late 20's now, when i was in high school i was doing spanish and german classes, around that time i was getting so interested in languages and anthems and whatnot.
@@nilsjansson1650omg I absolutely hate it when people are like “I’m in my late 20’s” etc when asked how old they are. Just say what age like omg it’s not hard. Say 26 or 27 or whatever….is it really that hard ???????

3:49 Liechtenstein would also have been a good answer. Both have the same melody
4:12 Austria 😉
Way too easy, bread n butter for every anthem lover
I got Russia from the first note alone 😂
Got them all!
Too easy when you SHOW THE COUNTRY, lol
When you know the anthems but dont know the country 😢
It was too easy ... all right ... but it was wonderfull to hear the great anthems :) ... Greetings from Germany!
I couldn't agree more.😊 Greetings from San Antonio, TX.
@@AnastasiaSaenz Your anthem was one of the best in the world - like your country - i can sing it ... Oh say can you see ... :)
@@jankowalewski5551
By the dawn's early light
Not to sound naive, but it''s still used...I'll still sing it even if it changes.
To me, it's meaningful; it was written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812, which lasted until 1815, with the defeat of the Napoleonic Wars - - and I believe, somehow, the then-very young United States waged war with Britain - or vice versa, but with the flag with then-15 stars, still flying and the flagpole still standing even throughout the night into dawn, it was a symbol of perserverance and strength,.
@@jankowalewski5551 Oh, which German anthem do ypu consider yours? "Deutschlandlied' or "Auferstanden aud Ruinen"?
@@AnastasiaSaenz I was born in EastGermany - so "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" was my first anthem ... but prefer "Das Deutschlandlied" i become tears in my eyes, when i heard the anthem from my fatherland - The song "Das Deutschlandlied" is older and stands for all Germans - because of this its the song of all Germans!!
Odd things about some of the national anthems in the quiz is that they were used as College alma mater songs Yale WW 1 La Marseille Gott Erhalte Gott Beschütze Unsern Kaiser Unsern Land Columbia University
for the Spanish anthem it has Francisco Franco era lyrics which goes Viva España
Easy
I missed Spain
Got the rest😂
Anyone who got Canada right and isn't Canadian must therefore be a fan of the Winter Olympics because there is no other way for one to know it,
Everyone knows the 'O Canada' part in the beginning

How
Got all of them. Far too easy, but great video! (Still can't believe it took 10 seconds to get God Save the King, I'm British!)
To be fair, there's 12 seconds of drumroll before the first proper tone :-)

04:53 The German national anthem does NOT start with “Germany, Germany above all, above everything in the world”. That used to be the case before 1945, but since then the song BEGINNS with “Unity and Justice and Freedom”. If you try to sing the “Germany above all” verse you will get in serious trouble! Please get your facts right in future!!!
I believe as a German I do have my facts pretty straight here. Our national anthem is "Das Lied der Deutschen", also called "Deutschlandlied", written by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841 and set to music by Joseph Haydn, which was originally the "Roman German Emperor Anthem". This anthem consists of three stanzas, the first one begins with "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" ("Germany, Germany above everything"), the second stanza with the rather cheesy "Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue, deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang" ("German women, German loyalty, German wine and German song"), the third one is "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and justice and freedom").
It was completely abolished at the end of World War II in 1945 and reinstated in 1952, with the limitation that only the third stanza is to be sung when performed at official federal events.
There was however a publication of an exchange of letters between President Richard von Weizsäcker and Chancellor Helmut Kohl in 1991 at the time of the German unification (www.bgbl.de/xaver/bgbl/start.xav?startbk=Bundesanzeiger_BGBl&jumpTo=bgbl191s2135.pdf):
"Der Wille der Deutschen zur Einheit in freier Selbstbestimmung ist die zentrale Aussage der 3. Strophe des Deutschlandlieds. Deshalb stimme ich Ihnen namens der Bundesregierung zu, daß sie Nationalhymne der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ist." ("The intention of the Germans to a unity in free self-determination is the central statement of the third stanza of the Song of Germany. That is why I agree with you in the name of the Federal Government that it is the national anthem of the Federal Republic of Germany.")
Being an exchange of letters it's debatable if this is "official proper legislation" - I rather take this as a statement reassuring what was practised for 39 years at that point in time and still is today. Even if this was to be taken as highly official, making what I put in the video not 100% accurate because it officially changed in 1991 (not in 1945, mind you), it doesn't change the fact that it is still stanza three of the Deutschlandlied, making it an excerpt of that anthem. The point here is to acknowledge that there are two other stanzas with questionable lyrics burdened by their history.
By the way: The "serious trouble" you'll get in when singing the first or second stanza is that most people will (luckily and rightfully so I might add!) shout expletives your way and tell you to shut up - contrary to popular belief it is not in any way illegal to sing these stanzas, however - given the historical context - best to avoid unless you want to look like a supporter of fascism, nationalism, racism, antisemitism and xenophobia.
@@quizlodge Thank you very much for the clarification! I was under the impression that the old third verse was now “promoted” to being the first verse. I stand corrected. Still, as a German you could have avoided mentioning the original first verse altogether because it is a common misunderstanding around the world that the “Germany, Germany above all…” text is still the official anthem.
2:15 O Canada!
The only one I missed was the United Kingdom
