Thanks for another great video. We old timers do like seeing the trucks our fathers and uncles rode us around in. Love it. 100 thumbs up, if they would let me.
Rasta Goobers 10 four good buddy this is Rusty Nail, haven a little trouble with these teenagers out here at mile marker 110, nothing I can’t handle, I got one of the strapped to my stacks right now good buddy!
I appreciate seeing those old cabovers going up and down the highway cuz it reminds me of my dad he was a truck driver for 37 years and he love to love those old cabovers so much I remember his old a 1972 Freightliner
I just saw this truck yesterday 10/6/16 in Redding CA !!!! So awesome!!!! Kevin was with his partner in crime who was running that new (freshly redone?) sweet cabover Pete. I passed them and was waving like a little kid !!!! it's getting so rare to see a coe in California let alone something this priceless. thank you Chris for all that you do and Kevin and Todd for making my day on I-5 !!!!
Very nice truck. Really love the sound of that Detroit. I cut my teeth in a cab over but have been in a hood for the last 15-18 years. Kinda miss the old coe days but really like the room and convenience the hood offers. Glad to see you are keeping a tradition alive and doing your father proud.
8V92 - 500 YES, YES, YES! Never heard the Jake cut in unfortunately, and that's a sound that you don't need straight pipes for! Great job on getting it back on the road. Liked the way he ran up the gears, real smooth.
As a kid growing up in the seventies, who went on long road trips in my parents 75 Chevy Caprice station wagon, I loved watching all the big rigs, and stopping at cafes for meals, and listening to the truckers sitting around the bar area telling their tales of the road. My favorite trucks were the Freightliner COEs, along with Kenworth conventionals, and the Kenworth COE Aerodyne. You can thank the movie Smokey and the Bandit, along with the TV shows Movin On, and B.J. & The Bear for the Kenworth fetish. Of these classic rigs, I noticed more Freightliners than the other makes. It was like for every Kenworth, Peterbilt, and International I saw, there were two or three Freightliner COEs. I could be wrong, since I was just a little kid at the time, and those memories are unfortunately fading with age. Wish the human brain came with a CD drive, and we had CDs back then, so I could pop a CD in my head, download all those fond memories and images, and see them now in full detail.
This is one of those trucks that takes me back to my childhood. I remember seeing them on the road and wanting to become a truck driver. Ended up going into aviation instead, but once I retire from flying, I would love to own an old truck some day. Awesome truck and great video.
Y’all go check out mtu Detroit diesel. They design and manufacture modern two strokes only thing that sucks is they are mostly large v type mining truck and generator set engines v-12 v-16 v-24. also mtu Detroit diesel is the same Detroit diesel that made these sweet sounding engines it’s a partnership between the two companies.
They do. It's called a locomotive. 710 cubic inches per cylinder. Overhead cam , ecm controlled injection. Meets tier 4 emissions All these 2 strokes were produced by GM. Now Cat owns EMD.
Awesome video! Love Kevin's cabovers. He also has an '84 Freightliner, Brown, with an 8v92. I was hoping he would mention that truck as well. Haven't seen it for a while. Hope he still has it. Both of these rigs are sweet!! Thanks for the video!
I've watched this video more than a couple of times...I've never had the pleasure of driving a Coe. I drove a 79 Chevy bison with an 8v silver 92 15 speed. It was a pleasure. I'm a big fan of this guy.
Beautiful truck. Drove a COE freight shaker back in the 70s. 318 Detroit. Best sounding truck that I have ever drove. Have always loved COE trucks. Been driving a truck for 41 years. Plan on driving one for a few more years.
@@diamonddog257 Hows the restoration going? Also are you going over the road in yours ? I wanna fix one for over the road, trying to find anybody with insight on it. Thanks
Older trucks built to last and also this was the backbone of all American craftsmanship building every part and components rite here than those plastic ones rolling around which only last 5 years with foreign parts on them
Beautiful truck ! I'm driving a 74 while my good truck is in the shop. I don't know why his big gulp didn't jump out of the holder several times ! Mine would have. Hope to see you out here Kevin.
ha ha father's and uncles,I owned a freightliner similar to this one I loved it ,460 detroit 13 blue with blue diamond tuct interior my favorite dash mine was a 1976
Man this young brotha has that truck spec'd with one of my all time favorite motors a 8v92T Detroit 2-stroke that he turned up to 500 HP Sound s awesome with that 15-speed
Awesome video and truck. I have an 87 freightliner cabover I bought 4 years ago. Truck sat in the weeds for about 7 years. 350 big cam. 9 spd. 355 rears. Been rebuilding her a little at a time. Just a few more small things to do and hopefully she'll be road ready in about a month. Pretty much same situation. Only paid $1500 for the truck. Man was getting ready to scrap it. Have done all the work myself. No better feeling having a truck you owe noone for. Just put time and money into it when I could. Now the progress has paid off.
Great video.... I appreciate the depth of the questions. The hard work Kevin put into this truck is evident, and it was fun to learn about the working cabover. Too bad more drivers aren't trained to truck in the same way he is doing for his cousin. I have been hoping for a cabover Rolling CB interview by you, and was very impressed by the knowledge shared in this brilliant video. Thanks for all you do!
Sweet truck, I logged a lot of miles in a (car hauler) Freightliner cabover when I was young. I remember how cold that cab could get when it got below zero. All the best to you driver, be safe...
Nothing better than an old cabover weither your running a Detroit or a cat , I'm not a trucker but I want to be a diesel gypsy in an old school truck but I have a few hiccups on my license so it will be harder to get my cdl, but I'm willing to wash trucks for a year if I have to to get my cdl, trucking race cars and michanic work is in my blood, I'm adopted but I have truckers in my biological family and in my adopted family , it's been my life long dream and I will 34 in September

@ 7:00 min I love V8's! Nice to hear it powering up to speed through the gears, so thanks for the interview break to do so, but not to say the interview wasn't great, as it was! We'll done brother with telling your story, your advice, work ethic & interest in keeping some classic history on the road! Also as the young cousin said at 16:00 min not to cut corners, absolutely true, as I've learnt a good saying, "A short cut, is always the longest distance between two points! Cheers.🍻 brothers👍 Rich.😎
It's a sight to see... I use 2 park at the same yard with him... definitely a beautiful and rare Truck 2 see still rollin... my 1st favorite Truck, Freightliner Cabover
drove one of those years back. 1988.same cab,425 cat,13 over.had to be careful when you lifted the cab. when you put it back down, you had to give the jack a few extra pumps when the cab landed on mounts to keep the gear stick in place.the one thing the trucker never said; damn i had too many straps on that load!
one of the best looking trucks yet, like the keeping it close to original deal, first truck i drove was my uncles fl cabover it had a cat & 13 speed and very fast for its day. i hope to get an old truck with a detroit someday

Not everyday do you run into a brotha who digs old trucks.. Thumbs up!
I totally agree.My dad had one.R.I.P...
who cares what they 'dig' ...just stay out of my yard...... sheesh.
Not everyday that you hear a Detroit, and someone that knows how to shift it
Yeah. I bet his father was a old house mover when he was driving old cabovers like my former neighbor.
All truckers should be like this guy.
Chris C all 4 wheelers should! Truckers ain’t doing too bad yet. A car cuts me off several times an hour! The system is broken.
Yessir!
I have a soft spot in my heart for cab overs. And Detroit Deisel is buttercream icing on the cake.
10/4. My first truck was cabover KW with a 8V71 Detroit and a 13 speed

Whenever I hear that sound it reminds me of the Goblin truck from Maximum Overdrive. That truck had a unique sound for sure!
same engine ;D Good ol' 8 cylinder detroit diesel :D (92 or 71)
that Freightliner sounds gorgeous!
He must have this Detroit tuned just right. Not once, did I see any smoke from the pipes. Beautiful old school working truck!
That means it ain't running good driver! You wanna see smoke flying as you take that triple digit truck down the hammer lane!

I began on Cab Overs back in 1975. We were pulling 40ft trlrs and 96" wide. I loved it. I'm retired now.
Very nice truck. Really love the sound of that Detroit. I cut my teeth in a cab over but have been in a hood for the last 15-18 years. Kinda miss the old coe days but really like the room and convenience the hood offers.

Awesome!! I appreciate how he's kept it period correct instead of adding all the gaudy add ons today, that take away the looks of trucks.
Love the old school! Nothing sounds like a 2 stroke Detroit!
This is one of those trucks that takes me back to my childhood. I remember seeing them on the road and wanting to become a truck driver. Ended up going into aviation instead, but once I retire from flying, I would love to own an old truck some day. Awesome truck and great video.
Nice old Cab over Freightliner, that V-8 Detroit sound awesome! Nice to see the classic trucks, thanks again Chris.
Oh man that Detroit sounds like music to my ears!!! Someone needs to make a modern day two stroke
that wouldn't be a bad idea! ;) I hope it gets considered!
Maybe along with bio-fuel/diesel development (so to meet anti-pollution standards)
