The prices at that thrift store were beyond ridiculous, Kathleen. I stopped donating to the thrift stores in the 'big city' near me for that reason. I have been taking items to my local food bank in the past year where I volunteer. It's nice to see that people in need can take what they want there for FREE. Thank you for another great video! ❣
I have two thrift stores that I go to if I need something. And they are very pricey I have discovered. Every Tuesday the one store has 30% off for seniors and it’s 55 and up to be a senior. So if I shop that’s when I go. But there’s been several instances that I’ve purchased something and then stopped at Walmart and found that they have the same type of item for either the same price or a dollar more in their clearance racks. So the stores are not so thrifty after all. Thanks again for your content.
Oh my, the prices are really high! They have some beautiful things, but it is more like an antique mall. I've noticed the ones near me have increased also. Thank you for your information.
Those thrift store prices were outrageous. 16 cents isn't bad. Shopping is exhausting. I always pack a sandwich and take an apple when I leave the house.
I really enjoy your videos and look forward to watching everyday. My husband has also subscribed. I enjoy your genuine content. Not rehearsed...just real down to earth conversations and cooking. I love how you even on a budget you care about these wild animals...you have such a kind heart and it really shines in your videos!
I have stopped going to thrift stores. The prices in my area are ridiculous . Yard sales are better but, last year there wasn't many of those. I would be so happy with only 16 cents over my budget. You're doing great✨
Hi Kathleen, I find it so funny that you are being secretive about your UA-cam channel. I might do the same if I ever start one. I sell vintage jewelry and other items online. Most of my inventory is thrifted. I have found thrift store prices to have gone through the roof since the start of covid. I look for church thrift stores they have the best prices.
I wouldn’t say you blew it by going .16 over budget. You did a great job! Goodwill in our area is way overpriced, but we have a nice little Catholic thrift store in our area that has very good prices. They purposely keep their prices low so they can benefit the low income people in our neighborhood.
Many are not, but for some folks they go as a day out. Myself I like yard sales and clearance bins. I found a 4Q Presto pressure at a yard sale for $3, I did buy new gaskets though. But there are the rare good buys at thrift stores: Books, linen clothing, and solid wood or brass and silver items and I have also found oil paintings by a Paris artist for $2 each. I broke my grocery budget too, but the sales price and the amount I bought means I will be eating for less later this year. Having a cash reserve in your house for those exceptional sales is great but takes time to build up.
There are a couple thrift stores in our area that are operated by churches. Those stores are very reasonable. But the consignment stores are way too high, in my opinion. I thought the prices you showed us seemed high. Glad you were able to get one shop light. Hope you can find some more! I think you did very well on your budget! The month is nearly over and staying a few cents within your goal seems good.
It’s never pathetic when you have set up for yourself a plan of action, going over by only cents is a huge accomplishment especially in today’s economy. One thing I will say is to never deprive yourself as long as you are within reason. We save and save while at the same time having spent most of our lives working, yet in the end we take nothing with us. That being said, enjoy a little bit of a treat every now and then because God will provide for your every need.
Do you have a Habitat for Humanity resale store near you? Or a different store of the same kind🤔 They carry a lot of construction items, you might find shop lights there.
Keep an eye on Harbor Freight. They run those lights on sale and sometimes you can stack a coupon. I bought them on sale last year for $18. One time I had to ask them to get out of the stockroom.
Additional comment regarding the shop light. Harbor freight has some great coupon deals every once in a while, especially around holidays. It might be a good time for you to check then just a thought that’s all.
I am so surprised at the thrift store prices… especially given that many of those things, young people especially, would have no interest in buying. As we older folks are trying to purge all the stuff we have accumulated, things like dishes, furniture, high end clothing, nicnacs really end up having minimal value as there simply is no market for them. Younger generations have a much more minimalistic and I would suggest healthier approach to ‘stuff’.
It's the same here in England. The charity shops have got expensive. I only give to animal charity shops. I think people charities get enough and most of them fund animal testing. Barbaric. Honestly kathleen I do like your videos. 😊
I wish we lived closer. I have like 20 of those shop lights to get rid of and they even have the proper bulb ratings (you cant do that with the newer shop lights sadly) for growing in them. I updated my whole grow system to the LED grow lights ( I think they are the ones you said you didn't want to use ) about 5 years ago and they are a game changer. I get them in sets on Amazon. They still work amazingly years later. They chain hook together so you dont need as many plug ins to run all the different lights and cost wise over time for bulbs , electricity etc they actually end up being a lot cheaper than the shop lights. They also come in 4 foot and 2 foot and are super light so you can use them all over the house if you want to just using command hooks from your ceiling. Anyways just a thought on the lights since you are having a hard time finding the shop lights where you are.
I think I'll just buy another one with the LED bulbs in them. I'll just go back to Tractor Supply in a couple weeks and see if they have more in stock.
Kathleen, I really like the Harbor Freight shop lights. I bought three of them a while back. They were on sale for 29.99 or something close to that. What light spectrum are you wanting for your plants? The Goodwill store around here-forget that. They price all the raggedy jeans according to brand. The Goodwill's down in Indy are far better priced, and there was one in Michigan that was priced very good. We have a benevolent center only blocks from us and they are quite reasonably priced. They leave stuff out back for people to pick through. Hope You get some rest.👍
Wow! Those thrift store prices were absolutely wild!!! Way overpriced! We have an overpriced Goodwill store in my community that I rarely shop at because it's a joke. There's also a church run free store which is really nice and that's where I prefer to donate. For the first month of your grocery challenge I think you did excellent! Sixteen cents over is no big thing, please be gentle with yourself. Who knows you may have a month where you're under, so in the end you'll be just fine. I have a small monthly budget for items to prep with and for Flashfood (it's a phone app for participating grocery stores and all the food is 50% off). You could do something similar with your bird seed budget. I have a cat, so I don't feed the birds but I do plant lots of things that produce seeds they can eat over the winter, squirrels, birds deer whoever wants it. Since the plants are perennials I only have to buy them once to provide food over and over and over again! Looks like you figured out how to turn the background music off! Take care!
I have to stick to my needs first,, often the wants get pushed back a month or more,,, it always works out in proper time,,,soooo,,, its always a good day 😁😻😁😸😁
It didn’t look like a typical thrift store, but more individual booths that are rented by resellers. You’d have to hit a traditional charity type thrift store for lower thrift prices. Was neat to see though! I’d say you made your budget. 16 cents is negligible. Congrats!
Forget the 16 cents, you are doing great, don’t let a little error discourage you. Omg, I used to thrift shop all the time but then the prices went way up and it was no longer worth it so I stopped. Worst thrift store chain imo is Value Village here in Canada, I don’t understand why people bother when you can get brand new items for around the same price at discount stores and it’s a lot less hassle. I would regularly see items 1 dollar new at the dollar store tagged at 3 dollars or even 5 used! There is only one store I would consider and it’s a real charitable organization but their prices have also gone up but maybe half or a quarter of value village’s prices. It makes me sad when I see value village’s commercial that they are saving the planet by reusing when all they are doing is getting free stock for their stores, it’s shameful imo to say you care so much but then raise the prices sky high! Needed to vent lol!
My husband says the newer shop lights have the LED bulbs and they will last a really really long time and will save you money on energy as they are very energy efficient. So maybe keep that in mind when comparing shop lights.
Some of the stores near us have yard sale prices and the next one is in competition with walmart prices. Unbelievable that anyone would shop in a thrift store where you can get brand new for cheaper or the same price.
A thought on the difference betwern thrift stores and consignment shops. Consignment shops are individual sellers booths or areas to sell items at whatever price they think the market will bear. Actual thrift stores tend to be charity or donation based. They will be much cheaper. Examples are Salvation Army, Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity. Lots of church based thrift stores too. Of course, prices are trending higher depending on certain cities.
Looks like you figured out how to add video cards! Very cool. And I’m sure you’re hearing this from everyone but try not to be so hard on yourself. I’m sure if a friend told you they finished the month within 16 cents of their budget the word “pathetic” would never occur to you
The thrift stores here are something else, much as the regular stores, and the couple that have decent prices on them, have things that should’ve been thrown in the dumb
You kno goin .16 over budget every month, is gonna add up to 1.92. Per year. Not absolutely positive but i think you will be alright!!!!!😂😂😂😂. At the end of the year i wont even guess how far overbudget i go!!!!! Every year!!!! 😮😮😮
No, trying to get rid of the stuff I have. I do go to thrift stores sometimes, mostly because my friend loves them and I like to mostly browse or look for books.
I think Kentucky is a state affected by the unfair WEP/GPO. But just in case, you didn't know it was just recently repealed a couple weeks ago. So that may affect you with an increase in your Social Security benefits.
I wouldn't consider 16 cents as blowing the budget lol
The prices at that thrift store were beyond ridiculous, Kathleen. I stopped donating to the thrift stores in the 'big city' near me for that reason. I have been taking items to my local food bank in the past year where I volunteer. It's nice to see that people in need can take what they want there for FREE. Thank you for another great video! ❣
thats true, some are more expensive than regular store

Thank you Kathleen. Interesting video. Not to worry, I went over my food budget $30. It's a challenge to stay under $200. Take care ❤
Yup i find they are priced nearly the same as new in stores. And sometimes more than new!!!! Not reasonable anymore.
Oh my, the prices are really high! They have some beautiful things, but it is more like an antique mall. I've noticed the ones near me have increased also. Thank you for your information.
The last time that I went to a thrift store, I saw items from the dollar tree that were used and marked at 4.81.
Wow.
That's terrible!
You didn't intentionally go over budget. You've done great. Glad your seedlings are doing so well. xo
Those thrift store prices were outrageous. 16 cents isn't bad. Shopping is exhausting. I always pack a sandwich and take an apple when I leave the house.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy my videos!
Wow!! Was that 49 dollars for the cast iron skillet? Did my eyes see right??😳
Yes, isn't that crazy? I bought a brand new one several years ago, much bigger for about that price.
I have stopped going to thrift stores. The prices in my area are ridiculous . Yard sales are better but, last year there wasn't many of those. I would be so happy with only 16 cents over my budget. You're doing great✨

Oh cool you figured out how to mute the sound at the thrift store. Thanks for stopping by my Livestream yesterday. 👍
I did but it took a while. Thanks for inviting me!
I wouldn’t say you blew it by going .16 over budget. You did a great job!

Yes!! Totally crazy, I bought mine a few years ago for thirty- five dollars new!!
It’s never pathetic when you have set up for yourself a plan of action, going over by only cents is a huge accomplishment especially in today’s economy. You didn’t blow it! Be easy on you!😊
Do you have a Habitat for Humanity resale store near you?
Or a different store of the same kind🤔
They carry a lot of construction items, you might find shop lights there.
Yes, but they were closed yesterday.
Amen to that. I use my calculator for unit pricing and it's not much different.
Keep an eye on Harbor Freight. They run those lights on sale and sometimes you can stack a coupon. I bought them on sale last year for $18. One time I had to ask them to get out of the stockroom.
I've given up on the thrift stores in my area. The prices are more than Walmart.
Unless it's bulky furniture the stores won't negotiate either.
Additional comment regarding the shop light. Harbor freight has some great coupon deals every once in a while, especially around holidays. It might be a good time for you to check then just a thought that’s all.
Oh, I forgot to mention in my video that I bought a clamp at Harbor Freight. It's still in my vehicle and I guess that's why I forgot.

No idea about the light spectrum. Thanks, I did get a good night's sleep last night.
Those prices was very ridiculously high, i myself would probably never go back to that store

Oh wow should i berate you for goin over budget???? I wish 16cents is all i ever went over!!!!😂😂😂😂
I know it's not that bad, but the very first month?!! lol

Our thrift stores are terribly overpriced. I use to find some great clothes. Not any more.
👍✌️

Out of curiosity I just googled it and they consider themselves a flea market.
@kathleensmith6200 Yes, flea markets also is a form of consignment shop

All the thrift stores are expensive. They are trying to survive I suppose. Even people having yard/tag/garage sales have gotten unreasonable.😊

I'm just annoyed that it was the very first month of me doing this.
Do you go to garage sales?
No, trying to get rid of the stuff I have. I do go to thrift stores sometimes, mostly because my friend loves them and I like to mostly browse or look for books.

Thrift store doesn’t mean thrifty……
👍✌️
