Zimbabwe's Lithium Industry & Economic Opportunity Explained
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- According to GlobalData a research firm, #Zimbabwe was the world’s sixth-largest producer of #lithium in 2023, with output up by 428% in 2022. Yep 400%. Now over the last five years ending in 2022, lithium production from Zimbabwe decreased by 9.18% due to political and economic challenges but with the economy opening up after sanctions from the US were lifted, lithium mining is just one of the industries that is expected to rise in the country, estimates saying this could be by as much as 31% between 2023 and 2027. The Zimbabwean gov is looking to get the lithium industry up to $10bn per year but analysts say the president & gov are a little ambitious…
But I want us to look at this opportunity as see where it could take the country.
Zimbabwe accounts for approximately 3% of global lithium production, with the largest producers being #Australia, #Chile, #China and #Argentina.
With there being increased efforts to address the global #climate emergency this has leading to an increased demand for renewable energy technology, particularly in the #GlobalNorth, which has meant an increased need for electric vehicles and the batteries required to power them. Africa and in particular Zimbabwe is one of the new frontiers in a race for #batterymetals, and lithium - which is sometimes referred to as ‘white gold’ -now one of the most sought-after commodities in the world.
Given how tight lithium supply chains are globally, lithium exports could potentially help Zimbabwe escape its status as a pariah state, largely isolated by Western politicians and investors. But a big scramble is under way for the country’s critical minerals and at the moment China is winning it and many countries around the world don’t like that. This could and likely will mean more political challenges for the country but with so much at stake, a way forward is needed and must be found in order for Zimbabwe’s economy to grow. Zimbabwe must be made great again.
What are your thoughts ? Can Zimbabwe take advantage of this new opportunity ?

DRC discovering more minerals only means more problems for them , (un)fortunately. Zimbabwe needs proper leadership , nothing will change for them with ZANU-PF.
Great content Zim, keep going.
Zanu pf is here to stay protecting african intrests 😮
Well ,Everything will soon change as we go the drc route😢
I wish we could mine and refine these minerals ourselves.
Yep we need to make the products ourself
Look at what is talking place at dangote item this leaders
@@nelsonmukuvare9337I concur with you
I wish Afrikans would focus on value addition and invest heavily to make it a priority
"Zimbabwe must be made great again..." It surely will, and so will Afrika as a whole. Thank you very much for this objective and educational video about Zim's mining sector. Do you guys not agree to have a single trading bloc as SADC or Afrika whereby we sell our minerals as one or pull resources together to build our own factories for value addition?
So much potential to grow export pipelines. I hope those downstream are paying attention, LOOKING AT TRANSNET specifically. They can revive the railway lines between our countries and facilitate export through our ports. Bypass the road networks, reduce trucks on the road and have localised trade areas where the trucks can do last leg delivery. Transport and public enterprises should be salivating at the prospect.
Love your work dude
Not mentioning that the Zimbabwean economy is basically operating under a Mafia State is key piece of context missed here. Anyway Zimbabwe is more likely to hand its lithium to Russia or China & the govt officials will loot the money. Zanu Pf looting makes ANC look like amateurs
Lol 😂 ai black mara, where are going guys?
Tsek wena you been brainwashed watch Zimbabwe go foward while you mourn😮
Totally agree with you. My belief is that the issue of due disclosures is dealing a low blow to the Zim economy
The economy should improve if it gets intertwined with that of SA, where charges around movement of minerals can be reduced in order to take advantage of global pricing.
There’s a lot to do in Zim, Moz, Lesotho and Botswana, which will benefit the region
200 million in dollars per month in damiond were is it going
South Africa mus go it alone since they so racist and xenophobic

Great content.
Just slightly reduce the ISO on your camera bro. If you are not shooting on manual then reduce the exposure (the +/- on the screen)
Well done mate. Good one.
Thank you. It’s a pleasure 🙏🏾
Interesting stuff 👏🏾
These mineral discoveries in Africa doesn't entice me due to that it helps none of us. I mean look at us with our scourging unemployment rate. Look at DRC ,Look at Zimbabwe too .
I feel sorry for Congo/DRC, more resources are being discovered💔
It was gonna be good if it benefited the people but we all know it won’t
If we could remove these old people from governing us, SADC could be the richest region in the world.
Make your own batteries
Having minerals without producing the final product is point less on building the economy remember u will still import that shit at a high price than you export the minerals
Canada and Australia have economies built on exporting raw materials, it’s not impossible especially for developing countries. The problem is the allocation of resources.
@@wayneshamba6961 Canada and Australia can also extract and exploit those minerals and don't need a foreign investor.
@@sulaak they do process raw materials but that only encompasses a small proportion of their GDP. If you look at the GDP charts you’ll notice that Canada depends heavily on the USA buying its raw materials and it’s the same with Australia and China because of the volumes of raw materials they sell in comparison to what they process.
Also with the high costs of living and high wages they cannot attract enough foreign investment to diversify their economies as much as they’d like. The economics simply don’t allow for exploitation. Why hasn’t Apple or Microsoft opened up factories there? The skills and raw materials are plentiful but the costs are too high.
Corruption is winning in Zimbabwe
Your bloody sanctions are to blame
So where is all the proceeds going ..individuals bottomless pockets 😢😢😢
Bro you are good
The inflation numbers are from the old currency not the new zig currency
Alot of minirals in Zim have been untapped for more than 20 years coz of sanctions. Zim is going to be seeing alot mineral exports the next half of the century, the questions will the State realise this and use it as an opportunity to build itself and citizens??
Lithium isn’t as profitable right now. The prices have tumbled.
It may well be than the automobile industry will be turning to hydrogen as the preferred choice.
How does on invest in that economy?
Please check the lithium that is discovered in Allenridge Free State, and why aren't exploring it
Thank you my man, the information ministry is always too busy with christ knows what than give us facts
I need to fire my research supervisor and appoint you ma man.
haha lithium, what are you doing with gold? haha taking us far before Pharoah's time.
this is why they must go back home...
It's not up to you, what about our kids in the US in the past 30 years

Watching this was not a waste of time
I’m happy about this comment 😁
We should start processing it for solar and mobility, better than being xenophobic 😂.

What a strange comment. But those are welcome here as well if you give context. We'll listen on the radio...
