Also I'm sure when you said it was "badass" you ight have been thinking that it was bad like "how could you do that to an apple tree/dolphin? you must be some sort of bad dude or an ass (jackass)" but it sorta came off like you thought it was totally awesome and 'badass'

They are getting old eventually, and could not sustain it's own weigh, plus incurable deceases and degeneration. On the country side we've chopped about 6 of them this year. It's really hard and heavy wood to say.

I had a feeling it would involve a few rotational steps and possibly the final placement of one of the pieces as I had a few puzzles long ago where rotational steps were needed.

Thank you for another super enjoyable teaching video! Exotic woods created this beautiful puzzle. A wise use of an apple tree no longer able to produce fruit. Wenge (pronounced when-gay) from the Congo is more commonly called African Rosewood. Both woods are a true treasure to own.

Just curious, were there any instructions with the puzzle that said you could rotate? I thought rotational moves were generally frowned upon in burr puzzles?

This is an awesome puzzle! It reminds me of an android app puzzle game where you had to free all the pieces from the construct. What kind of puzzle group would you say this is? (like metal rods are wire puzzles... jigsaws, etc)

apple trees in a commercial sense will only be used for a certain length of time so re-using the wood is a good idea well done them!!!!

The wood is Millettia laurentii.
"Wenge" Sounds somehow easier. :D
True and that is also the common name because it was the native central African name for it. The word was probably brought back to Germany through their Colonies.

Isaq Kampp Wenge, a dark colored wood, is the product of Millettia laurentii. Other names sometimes used for wenge include African rosewood(ambiguous), faux ebony, dikela, mibotu, bokonge, and awong.

Dunno if the heat & humidity, here in Florida (USA) Would cause swelling/shrinking of the wood's dimensions to truly make it impossible/unsolvable ! ;-)
I think I could’ve figured it out starting with it assembled, there’s a fairly limited number of possibilities of what you can do with it, so I find it hard to think of it taking terribly long with that in mind; guess I’ll never know now :p
But then how to put it back together?

Don't panic Mr puzzle, apple trees need pruning to remain in good health, those small pieces could easily be from orchard pruning, I'm sure it's all good my friend ☺

It did not look "so smooth" it looked to be quite sticky and might hinder the solving as one might be afraid of breaking a part trying to force it in.

I'd still say it requires a level of f***s not given. Kinda badass, kinda sad. Impressive but depressing. Then again, My apple trees always seemed to attract lighting strikes, so they may have slightly less depressing sources of the timber.
